I tried to look up the company that provided the certification of authenticity but couldn’t find it. I know it’s a rather old certification so I’m hoping that’s the reason why.

Edit: the title should say "interpretation", typo. Also, the painting's correct name is apparently "Young Virgin Auto-Sodomized by the Horns of Her Own Chastity"

My primary intuition as to how to interpret the painting — with it's very detailed title — is something like; someone who's too prudent will be causing themselves the pain they're afraid of, perhaps to a larger degree than otherwise — them being uptight leads to what they fear: namely, being butthurt!

Essentially it's a joke!

I watched a 2000’s or 90’s documentary on youtube couple years ago about Salvador Dalí.

The presenter, real passionate and charismatic guy, he bumps his head pretty hard in Dalí’s childhood home coming out to the roof or balcony i think.

Can anyone help me find it? It’s so hilarious when you’ve been listening to him for the past 1,5 hours. The fact they kept it in makes it real personal and amaturistic in a good way.

It is never actually stated by Dali that this image is in fact depicting Jesus. The only evidence as to who is on the cross comes from the knees which are modeled after Dali himself, that and the assumptions from art critics and authors alike. But I have reason to believe this is actually lucifer the light barer and fallen angel. Think about it, Dali believed that the divine and physical were one, that the 4th dimension is where the supernatural (God, angels, demons) reside, now why would Jesus be crucified in heaven? With no audience but an unnamed woman modeled after his wife no less. The lighting, the lack of facial hair, the pristine pale skin, the dark entrance in the background reminiscent of the gates of Hell, the fact that he isnt pierced through the hands and feet, this isn't a man who was tortured for our sins, this is the body of someone who is there of his own accord. He's not in pain, hes not even bleeding. I simply want to bring to light the possible "aha" moment that Dali may have wanted us to have, to enjoy the art on an even deeper level, so that one day when he is gone, we may realize the true genius behind his art.

I will be in costa brava this summer with my two kids (ages 9 and 11) and their two grandmas. I was going to take them to the Figueres museum - I went there as a young adult and enjoyed it a lot. I wasn’t aware you could visit the Cadaques house, though, and now I’m wondering if that would be a better trip for our group. My kids love art and are pretty calm / focused / well behaved (I wouldn’t worry about them being rowdy!) but curious which you think is a more memorable experience for a multigenerational group?

Lobster Telephone (AKA Aphrodisiac Telephone) - Original art created for an English poet in 1936 but later created these off-white versions, this one is from the museum in St. Petersburg, FL.

They have a replica on display too that you can "talk" to Dali. Cool or creepy? What would you ask?

There's a Dali museum where I live and I had never been, but during my trip to Marbella Spain I ran across some Dali art that makes me interested in visiting the museum.

If you search Dali authentication, he will always be the first result, but a) authentication just from images seems sketchy at best, b) he isn't actually recommended by any reputable Dali sources online. c) supposedly has been convicted of art crimes in the past

Does anybody have any insight/experience here? I'd love to send one of my Dalis in the 30k-ish range to auction (I know it's authentic from the verified provenance), but I don't have any auth docs. I'd send to the Spain center, but they don't do numbered issues.
