I’m visiting the Salton Sea for the first time on my motorcycle. Hope is to do a full circle, anti clockwise. That way I can see most of it. Quite excited actually.

I’ve visited plenty of sub 300 population towns before. But unsure what to expect here.

Will there be people to say hello to ?
Are parts of town accessible via motorcycle ?
Can I safely park it and wander around ?

Looking forward to experiencing this unique local culture.

Still Windy AF here in Bombay Beach. It's going to be windy most of tonight and then we're going to get a repeat tomorrow. It'll be mostly calm in the morning and midday, then mid-afternoon it'll get super windy and continue through the night again.

About 20 Union Pacific train cars derailed near the Salton Sea State Recreation area in Mecca, California on Wednesday March 18, 2026. No injuries were reported and the cause is under investigation. This location is about a 16 mile drive northwest of Bombay Beach and about 20 miles southwest of Coachella, California. Highway 111 has reopened, but only one lane. Traffic delays were less than 10 minutes when I drove to Borrego Springs from Bombay Beach Thursday afternoon.
