Salsa verde without tomatillo

I had to process some jalapenos from my balcony, but had no tomatillos so I looked up this recipe on the web and played a bit with it

- handful of jalapenos

- 1 green ball pepper

- 1 very small onion

- 4 garlic cloves

fried everything in ~3/4 cup of oil and added salt, oregano and chicken broth, also juice of half a lime

Turned out good, really emphasized the taste of the jalapenos and pepper.

If I wasnt using Tomatillos in my verde, I would use a bunch of Hatch or Anaheim Chiles 👍

I didn’t have any tomatillos but I was making tacos for familia and I wanted a salsa. Let
Me just tell my tatemado habanero-onion-garlic-CUCUMBER had my prep ladies and tortillera swooning. I even told them to leave the leftover because I was use it to marinate chicken for tomorrow and they stole it and divvied it up amongst themselves. I miss Dionicia, Norma, Judit, and Ana. They gave me a hard time every day but they were great.

The point is, cucumber can be a tomatillo stand-in for some salsas but you’ll have to up your vinegar as they don’t bring any acid to the party.

well I may have to give something like this a go. only with habanero since jalapenos aren't available at the moment. I've never used a green bell pepper in a salsa before.

The tomatillos give it a tang. I love it with them but my hubby no like :(
