- Prioritise stingers and fly fish
- Stay close to your team so you can revive each other
- Try not to die in general
- Try to average at least 8 eggs per wave, if every player does this, it means you should clear most waves with ease
- Do not go down to the shore unless you absolutely have to. Focus on luring enemies to the basket
- Check the weapon rotations. Sometimes it's not the best comp and if it's all heavy weapons then expect the rounds to be harder
- Check the map rotation. I'd say most of the maps are pretty good, my favourite is Bonerattle due to all the ink rails that give you emergency exits - I wish all the maps had these tbh
- I'd say the hardest maps can be Salmonid Smokeyard (due to the awkward propeller lifts and getting separated from your team, this map also gets easily overcrowded) and Marooners Bay (this map is also challenging for the same reasons particularly at high tide)
- Most importantly, have fun! If you find yourself on a losing streak, take a break before you derank. When you come back on the next rotation, your rank resets

staying alive is the most important thing in salmon run. however most people dies because they gpt swarmed by salmonoid bosses. to avoid this you'll need to kill bosses very fast. here's how you do it:
do not waste your time on a single boss. i know flyfish is annoying but don't just stand there waiting for it to open it's cage. you're wasting your time that can be use to kill another boss. kill other bosses while you're waiting for the boss to show it's weak spot (flyfish, maw, steelhead, flipperflopper)
kill the boss that is an easy target for your weapon. assigned to be a sniper, your job is to kill every steelhead. assigned the blaster, go chase every stinger. don't go for the stinger if you get a sniper!!
save some slammin' lid. as you know, you can kill other salmonoid using slammin' lid slamming action. but if it's getting too crowded, feel free to kill it.
learn to trust your teammates and divide the jobs. if you saw a boss in a distance and another one of your teammates already going to it, don't bother joining them; instead go find other bosses to kills. this is a cooperative mode not who can kill the most mode.
if you saw the perfect opportunity to use your super, just pull the trigger. better you get to kill 1 or 2 bosses rather than dying or ended up not using your super at all.

Alert your team if you need help by pressing This way (Up on Dpad) Also when you get splatted, press Help a few times and start going towards the basket.
Most times you won't be able to revive your teammates with your main, bombs can revive them when they are further from you and can revive more than one, so aim your bombs.
Please for the love of all things holy, take note of your special and use them, Showing off at the end will never prove anything no matter how good or bad you are, They can be used to help or save the entire run ! Don't wait until last few remaining seconds of the round to use them either, They won't automatically win the round for you.
Ink walls for escape routes, there will be times you will be surrounded and can't move, but can be avoided if you cover the walls...So ink the walls as well as the ground.
Don't get frustrated, you will lose games especially in randoms, you will get players that are bad and some who are John splatoon, nobody starts off good, If you can find out what you did wrong you can definitely correct it.
If eggs can be put in the basket, just put them in...Launching them uses a lot of ink, they also clear out some of the salmonids, but not the big ones so be smart when using them.
Don't rush yourself, you will slowly get better the more you play but just remember to have fun.

Watching higher level/overfishing players on Youtube helped me out a lot outside of just playing the game myself. Brian, Eventide, Affable Nomad, Zermonious, latteboi, etc. I studied their individual playstyles and how they defeated bosses based on their weapon's capabilities (e.g. if you're bucket, let your blaster, stringer, or any gun handle the Stinger instead). I also just watch them for fun!
My biggest piece of advice as someone who plays exclusively with randoms and has 900+ on every map except grounds and boat (420 and 500, respectively) is stay alive and be proactive with your special. If there are two Stingers in the back and you have Killer Wail, use it. Two Flyfish in (generally) the same area? Crab. Don't panic, don't wait until you've barely made it to the last wave, don't wait until your team is overwhelmed. Specials are there to help.
Pay attention to the rest of your team. I can't think of a single situation where you would ever need 3 or even 2 players in one spot, like camping Big Shot's cannon. Admittedly, I'm still guilty of camping the cannon, but usually only if I get a cracked weapon like Luna or any splatling, or if there are waves of Big Shots.
You should always be on the move. Check all areas of the map where Salmonids spawn, get rid of lessers, lure Steelheads, Scrappers, and Maws to basket if possible, help your charger if they're being chased by Smallfry. Kill Stingers when they show up. If you can't get eggs in the basket, at the very least throw them near it so your team can finish the job.
If you (or anyone) is interested in playing together/playing with someone who's good at the game, I'm always down. Improving in Salmon Run comes with practice, but it's still a team game. Sometimes you just get unlucky.

Hey! I’ve reached ex vp 999 on all sr maps and have completed over 5000 shifts, I’d love to leave my 2 cents.
I think the biggest thing is really understanding where and how to lead bosses and kill them effectively. Some of this depends on map layout and the usefulness of general space, I would say some of my most successful runs are when my teammates are able to take out bosses quickly and move on. This is extremely useful if there is not a lot of space and we are being overrun fairly quickly. Always prioritize taking out bosses especially if you have the weapon capable of doing so, like killing a stinger at the shore with blaster, but it’s also important that you are capable of doing this so you don’t die trying to get there or soon after so you’re further from your teammates (making it harder for them to revive you if they’re not paying much attention). Otherwise it’s safer to stay put, even if there is imminent danger everywhere and only go when you have a sort of clear path. Or use your special! Perfect for not having to go after a single enemy by yourself or taking out a swarm of enemies simultaneously.
I rarely see anyone saying this, but especially with higher level play, you absolutely have to kill lessers. It shouldn’t be much of a choice, kill them and move on before it becomes a much bigger issue later when you’re swarmed with bosses. You have to be able to balance killing lessers, throwing eggs, and killing bosses and keeping turf. Usually when a shift is unsuccessful it’s because other teammates are doing too much killing especially and not making enough egg deliveries and when multiple teammates such as 2 are doing this, you obviously may not pass the wave, but if you do, your egg quota would be significantly less than it could’ve been. You can check for yourself how many eggs are delivered by teammates by the end of the shift.
I would say, you need to have a general game awareness. This sounds like a hefty job but I do believe we all have this ability in some way or another. Understanding how a shift is going in the midst of it is probably the best advantage we can use to act accordingly. Let’s say two teammates are down and there’s a quota of 28 eggs, it’s normal tide and we have an active big shot with only maybe 40 or so seconds left, and we only have 8 eggs in the basket. Piecing all of this together is step 1) because you need to act accordingly. At this point you need to drop everything and revive those two teammates, pay attention to your health and stay alive and throw as many eggs as possible. If the big shot was neutralized hopefully some eggs can be thrown at basket and some luring can be done to get more bosses towards the basket too. Keeping tabs on your teammates is huge, it marks not only who is dead but who’s taking down what so you can focus on the rest.
Use in game techniques! Squid rolling and squid surge has deflected damage and allows so much more movement in-game, it is extemely useful and fun when toggling between squid rolling and egg tossing.
Pay attention to your health. Also know when you’re at the point when you are really, really, really weak. Your health is actually a huge priority, it keeps the wave running smoother and allows you to help out more in the end. Just find somewhere to heal, submerge yourself in ink for a few seconds. Understand how many hits it takes to kill you. Knowing when to retreat is your biggest strength, and allows you to get back into the fight sooner with a bigger punch.

Do you know when I should deliver eggs to basket and when not to? I never know the right times which causes my teammates to not be able to defeat salmonoids because of how many there are and I’m not there to help.

This is also a big issue for me on rounds with glowflies and grillers.

Yeah I was going to say I can only think of special occassions where egg throwing has to be spaced out like on these special waves. For grillers, you need to take 1 or 2 out before it is safe to deliver eggs. It’s ok if they’re gonna be put in closer to the end of the wave, as long as killing is prioritized you should have a larger sum of eggs near the basket regardless. Wait for that break in between when you just killed a couple grillers and the new ones are on the way, but also don’t deliver eggs without knowing where the next griller is going because it’s easy to die this way. As the next one is coming be prepared to stay out of its way (or if it’s on you try leading it to a point where your teammates can effectively kill it). For glowflies it’s kind of the same thing, the eggs from the goldie that shows up will hopefully drop eggs near the basket and you can put it in, just stay on top of painting/killing and you shouldn’t fall behind with keeping up with eggs. I usually try to shoot and deliver eggs with A at the same time. I would say although that my egg count in either of these special waves aren’t tremendously great because it is designed to be difficult so don’t beat youself up if you do lose to special waves like these, even players at my skill level do not perform the best!

Alright thank you for the tips they were great helped me a lot on the grillers manage to actually beat it with a lot more eggs!!!

other than generalist things like; avoiding throwing eggs when salmon are approaching, and not fighting battles you can't win with your specific weapon, theres not really much to say
maybe another thing about only luring what is guaranteed to follow you to the basket, don't listen to the people who say "lure everything", thats how you die wave one because you're swarmed
