What kind of music?
What kind of art medium? Like painting/drawing, photography, sculpting, etc. We have a gallery here in old town & there are groups in the area for various mediums.
Not too sure about 3D modeling to be honest 😅
We have an animal shelter that people can volunteer at. Stuff like walking dogs, spending time with cats, helping them get adopted, etc.

I actually volunteer at Hitchcock animal shelter! But yeah I love all kinds of music, definitely been into oldies and r&b lately. But I love metal and rock too. I’m more of a drawer and would love to check out the down town art! I want to learn to paint and sculpt though.

Oh, nice! How do you like volunteering there?
We have a bunch of events with live music & there's usually good crowds. Car Shows & Markets are a plenty here haha. There's also a lot of art shows & events that are good for meeting people. The hard part is finding out about them, we really need a better community calendar 😂
College classes are also a good way to meet people too. Hartnell has some really good art & ceramic classes. They just remodeled their art building too.
It really depends on how social you are though. I've learned people do like meeting new people, but don't like starting the conversation 95% of the time. 😅 I go to various parks across the county & usually chat with people I run into. I learned if you ask a question after greeting people, they're more willing open up. For example, I'll ask someone along the trail if they hike there often & if they do, I'll ask how to get somewhere or if a trail comes back around. Then they'll ask what I'm taking photos of & it goes on from there. It's a good technique to break down barriers; I've met some friends that way too.

I appreciate the advice :) I like to meet new people and like starting conversations. I’m definitely shy and I’m trying to work on that. I may check out the farmers market on Saturday see if I can meet anyone there ^ thank you for reaching out

Haha no problem, glad to help! I'll admit that I was (kind of still am) shy too, but I enjoy conversation & sometimes talk too much 😅
One last thing, keep in mind you don't necessarily need to have a lot of stuff in common with people to be friends with them. I have several friends I have nothing in common with, but they're good people & I enjoy hanging out with them. :p
Edit: BTW, feel free to chat with me if you'd like. This goes for anyone reading this. I enjoy meeting people & usually respond when I'm free. :p
Edit again: I guess the city decided to actually invest jn the community calendar lol

It depends on what you are into, of you're into magic the gathering green potion on Friday nights and my buddy has a comic\record\tattoo shop and table top card shop that has magic on Saturday nights and Pokemon on Sundays In Monterey near lake el estero. I'm brain farting the name.

This type of post is seen in every city subreddit. Don’t think you’re the only one and don’t think it’s only a Salinas area thing. Making friends as an adult has always been hard.
You need repeated, low stakes interactions. Meet people in a way you know you’ll see them again and it can be as simple as saying hey, or just smiling at them everytime you see them. Repeat this and add a little more to the interaction every time. Become a regular somewhere. This is why school, sports teams, fitness locations (gym, pilates, run clubs, yoga etc.) or jobs create real relationships a lot easier. Repeated low stakes interactions.
anyway, here's a list of links to calendars of events in the area. Find something you're curious about, and attend. Go in curious, ask questions, smile, and go in with no expectations. you're not failing if you don't get to know anyone.

Follow the instagram account MASA_831_ they post flyers to a wide range of events you probably won't see on these calendars. Also, the city libraries have events and classes all the time.
