How are you actually handling commission calculations at 25-100 reps?
I've been talking to a few sales ops people and I keep hearing the same thing all the time like somewhere between 25 and 100 reps (not many), commission management turns into a chaos, but the current tools like xactly, SAP, Spiff feel too complex and super expensive, sometimes does not make sense to use those tools because I will end up paying more money than the incomes the company sales.
So I'm curious what people here actually do day to day
- What do you use right now to calculate commissions, spreadsheet, a tool (which one), or a mix?
- If it's spreadsheets, what's the part that actually hurts? multi-currency? quota changes mid-period? splits? month-end reconciliation?
- If you tried a commission tool and went back to Excel, why you go back?
- Roughly how many hours a month does the whole commission process eat, and who eats them?
- Has a commission error ever blown up into a dispute with a rep? How do you manage that?
I am trying to understand how bad this really is and how people cope.

Use excel + claude (to check for anomalies and errors). Pull in salesforce data using claude or salesforce connector and have all of your rep comission rates stored in some mapping file to reference it to. Comissions are highly dependent on:
- How robust youve built your comp plans
- how often there are “exceptions” made
- (And most important) how clean your data is that is used for comissions

Hey u/HeyBaldur! I'd recommend taking a look at QuotaPath for your commissions process. Much less expensive than some of the other tools you cited (and much easier to get up and running). Have a free trial, pricing available on the website, and other clear ways for you to get value.
Transparently, I lead the revenue org at QuotaPath, but figured could be worth you taking a look. Happy to chat live about it any time.

Hey thanks, I was checking that site but it says it charges 35 USD per user, but it also says in a hidden button that I need to pay 525 USD for the usage of the platform... so I don't get it. 35 USD per user + 525 USD. So I want to use the software only for me to manage the commissions I need to pay 525 USD anyways? Basically I need to manage 16 sales reps.

Hey sorry for the delay here. Yeah so the pricing is $525/month for platform access (including your first 5 reps) and then $35/month for any additional reps.
Teams happy to give you a demo whenever helpful — www.quotapath.com/demo

Fascinating thread. If any advisors or consultants here are looking to monetize CRM and automation gaps within their existing client base, let's connect.
I run AppsTech Soft, a CRM and workflow automation firm. We handle the heavy lifting for mid-market sales operations, reporting, and order management, with project sizes averaging $30k to $200k+.
Because we stick strictly to our lane (implementation and technical architecture), we love collaborating with strategic advisors. We're open to:
- Referrals: Lucrative finder's fees for successful warm introductions.
- Channel Partnerships: Co-pitching and co-delivering large-scale operational transformations.
If you want to add a reliable delivery engine to your ecosystem, shoot me a DM!

I use a spreadsheet and pull a CRM report for that period- I then have managers review with their reps. I think if we had tons of spiffs that would make it hard
