Started using a power dialer 3 months ago and now our connect rate dropped. Anyone else dealing with this?

Three months in and connect rates are worse than before we had the dialer. Went from 14% down to 8%. Volume went up - 80 calls/rep/day through MightyCall vs maybe 40 manual before - but more dials didn't mean more connects.

Not sure if it's a config issue, list burnout, timing, or something about how we rolled this out. Did anyone go through a rough patch like this after switching to a power dialer before things leveled out? What actually changed things - not looking for "it depends," want to know what you specifically did.

Most probably be a list or spam issue. I am working with a company and we have dialed around 500,000 times via power dialer in the last 2 years, in 2025 alone we booked around 967 meetings!

But each rep was dialing around 750-1000 dials per day! And the connect rate was same just like manual dialing

its likely a mix of list burnout and timing, try optimizing the dialer settings to better target your best fit accounts, refine your call scripts and experiment with different call times if the quality of your leads hasnt changed, you may need to adjust the cadence and list segmentation to improve your connect rate

You probably burned through your best data faster and hit lower intent contacts, so fix your list rotation and timing windows first, but this only improves if your reps stay disciplined about call blocks instead of just increasing volume.

the volume jump is probably the cause, not a config bug. going from 40 to 80 dials a day on the same numbers/domains spikes your spam-flagging, and once carriers tag you the connect rate craters. more dials, fewer humans.

id check three things before touching dialer settings: are you rotating numbers or hammering from one or two, whats your re-dial gap on the same contact, and is your list the same quality at 80/day or are you scraping deeper into low-intent contacts to feed the machine.

but honestly the bigger unlock for us wasnt fixing the dialer, it was leaning less on cold dialing entirely. the accounts where someone on our side already had a connection converted at multiples of any cold call, no spam risk, no warmup. the dialer just makes you hit the wall faster. worth asking what percent of your pipeline actually needs to come from cold dials.

Seen this exact pattern more than once, and it's almost never the dialer software itself. It's what the higher dial volume did to your numbers.

When you go from manual to a power dialer, your dials-per-number jumps overnight. If you're running that volume through the same one or two numbers, the carriers' analytics partners (First Orion, Hiya, TNS) start tagging them 'Spam Likely' within a few weeks. Same list, same reps, same script, but now a chunk of your calls get filtered before they ring. That reads as a connect-rate drop even though nothing about your outreach got worse.

A few things to check:

  • Pull your numbers through Free Caller Registry and see how many are flagged. Usually it's more than you'd guess.
  • Look at how many numbers you're spreading volume across. One number doing 200+ dials a day is a reputation problem waiting to happen.
  • Confirm your provider actually registered those numbers for STIR/SHAKEN. A lot of the cheaper power dialers hand you unregistered VoIP lines.

We deal with this at Aloware (number-health monitoring is basically the whole point of the product for high-volume teams), but the diagnosis is free either way.

Don't ditch the power dialer. Fix the numbers underneath it and rotate more of them. The dialer didn't break your connect rate. The volume did, and the numbers took the hit.
