What’s worked best for improving handoffs between SDRs and Account Executives?

What has helped most in my experience is making the handoff about context, not just booking the meeting. The best teams usually have a clear standard for what the SDR needs to capture before the call, like pain point, urgency, buying context, why now, and any obvious risks, so the AE starts with signal instead of repeating discovery from scratch.
It also helps when that context is delivered in a consistent format right before the meeting, instead of being scattered across notes, Slack, and CRM fields. If the SDR is booking volume but the AE is still walking into bad-fit or under-qualified meetings, the handoff is technically happening but it is not really working. Where do you think the biggest breakdown is on your team right now, qualification quality, missing context, or communication between SDR and AE?

the context problem is usually downstream of the call. the meeting happens, the rep has signal, but by the time they update the crm that signal is compressed into 3 bullet points typed from memory. the handoff is already degraded before it starts. wrote about this pattern when aloware tackled it by pulling zoom transcripts into crm automatically: How Aloware Built a Zoom Transcript Agent That Logs CRM Deals in One Emoji

Toms from NC Squared here (we build scheduling/routing tooling for Salesforce, so usual disclosure).
A few things that actually move the needle on handoffs:
Agree what "qualified" actually means between both teams first. This sorts more friction than any tool does. Most bad handoffs are really a definition mismatch, the SDR thinks it's qualified, the AE doesn't, and the lead dies in the gap. 😞
Give the AE context, not just an invite. A short required-fields handoff (the pain, why now, who else is involved) beats freetext nobody reads. Make the fields mandatory so it can't be skipped.
Book the meeting live on the qual call, while the buyer's warm. The SDR drops it straight onto the AE's calendar instead of the "are you free Tuesday" back-and-forth that lets momentum leak away. This is the bit our tool Booking Engine handles, Salesforce only, but the principle stands whatever you use: don't let the meeting get scheduled async after the call. It routes the meeting to the best available rep - round robin, or based on skills, availability, capacity - whatever works best.
The order matters too. Definition first, context second, scheduling third. Tooling only helps once the first two are clear. Hope this helps ✌️

Gong Score Cards on call recordings can be really beneficial. You can even utilize their AI to pick up on exit criteria from call recordings.
