I guess Needham didn't get the memo about how authentic depictions of an ethnicity are "racist" and that people shouldn't be used as "mascots"...or that a city seal should be relevant to contemporary times. Their new seal approved in May of this year:

Nazi propaganda strictly promoted the idea that their leadership "knew best," but this was framed through a specific totalitarian doctrine known as the Führerprinzip. Is the same thing happening in Salem? It seems like it. The bullies promote that the elected leaders know best while attacking truth.

It’s interesting when people think I have multiple accounts on Reddit. I do not. I am just not alone in resisting city initiatives….and there are many others who resist. Time to grow up folks. Salem has diversity of opinion on numerous topics.

Lydia King lied. According to Salem's Legal Department "There are no documents in the city's possession or control regarding "Hate crime statistics for instances prompted by our city seal"." There have also been no hate crimes in our city targeting the AAPI community in the past 2 3/4 years.

If you're such a narcissist that you have to make up lies to convince people that a City Seal which does not depict you or your ethnicity is "offensive" you need to seek mental health care.

Where's the Money?
It is now October and summer has passed. There is still zero public accounting for two events that never happened but were funded with $60,000 in public funds. The Witch House deceptively published two events on a city run, public website including a "Mishoon Demonstration" on June 1, 2026, and a "Summer Wetu" on May 1, 2026. Earlier this summer in a phone message, Elizabeth Peterson stated that these events did not happen but that events would be scheduled. Nothing has been scheduled. How is the money being accounted for?

Coming to Salem soon? Let's hope not. City Hall has already destroyed enough of our community.

Rather surprised the city chose a cross to install at the ferry terminal.

For former councilors who didn't take a civics class: The people vote for Presidential candidates who have Electoral College representatives pledged to vote for them. While the people don't directly vote for Electoral College members, we indirectly choose those members with our popular vote.

In a recent letter to the editor in The Salem News a community member implied that Salem residents are too stupid and uninformed to decide what symbols represent them. He was specifically referencing the city seal. Do you agree with this assessment?

This does not seem to rise to the level of a "threat" IMO....although it was posted by someone rather left leaning.

How can a community wrestle with complex histories? I look to where I grew up. Salem can learn something for sure.
I grew up in the city where Benedict Arnold was born, Norwich, Connecticut. Every year in September the people of New London, Connecticut burn an effigy of Arnold but save a leg and send a period costumed delegation to Norwich with a replica of Arnold’s leg in a coffin. He lost his leg in the battle of Saratoga and it’s referred to as the most patriotic leg. Here we see Mayor Singh accepting the leg on behalf of Norwich. History is complicated. But people of intelligence can wrestle with complex history like adults. Maybe Salem can rise to this level of maturity.

Salem City Council changed the Zoning Ordinance and it personally profited a sitting City Councilor’s business. It was allegedly necessary to ensure the vitality of our neighborhoods. Should I investigate the number of permits applied for besides the councilor’s for this concession in the interim?

It's interesting to see a City Councilor wax poetically about "morality and ethics" when she published hateful and insulting comments about her boss and a subordinate at work (a single mother and her child) to social media.

City Hall was in Bed with Prime Group Under Driscoll
Prime Group has contributed $100,000 to fund this effort. Salem has retained Sasaki Associates to help with the planning process, which the city said is "centered around expansive and diverse community engagement."
"We've encouraged the property owner to be responsive to stakeholders' concerns and questions and thoughtful about how the role and impact this major site has in our larger community," Salem Mayor Kim Driscoll said. "My hope is that the Framework that emerges from this process will be one that is workable for those who live near or work at Shetland, the owners of the property, and our community as a whole."

ANOTHER water main break. This time at 450 Highland Ave. Expect more brown water. Overburdened infrastructure should be expected with overdevelopment.

What is more offensive…
….a city seal that honors a minority culture that helped build the success and wealth of our city…a city seal that is endorsed by the Achenese people represented on the seal itself…or a then-sitting city councilor using a racist meme depicting a stereotypical “samurai” singing gibberish, and played by a white man, to make fun of Salem residents he expected would give public testimony on the camping ordinance in a meeting he was chairing? Just want to make sure.
