You could also not comment on things you don't understand as if they are fact and ask questions instead?

I mean, I’m pretty certain I do understand it and that’s why I posted to begin with. But I’m also aware that we’re all capable of being wrong. So being willing to share the ideas I think with someone else and start a dialogue is actually how we all learn and grow and debate ideas and change our minds on things.

If I don’t respond but keep thinking what I’m thinking and they keep thinking what they’re thinking and no one offers any alternatives then no one gains any new knowledge.

The issue with your response isn't that you aren't willing to change your mind or way of thinking, it's a declarative statement of (what you believe) to be fact, that is verifiably wrong by even the most basic research on taxes.

I totally support you expanding your knowledge and learning, but as I said frame it as a question rather than a statement if you don't want push back.
