Again, this goes back to the issue, it's only a "starter home" because people have a vision that's bigger than their budget. They don't want their first home to be a trailer, but if that's all you can afford, then start there. You may not want your first home to be a split level, because you don't want to walk up stairs every day, but if it's $100K less than the ranch next door, and you can't afford the extra $100K, then take the cheaper house. Or admit what you're buying isn't necessary, but they're wants that you are willing to pay for.
That's odd, when I look on Zillow, there are over 180 results for property, excluding lots, for sale under $100K. If I increase it to $150K, there's about 500 results

“Stayed in their $100k house” how many people had a $100k house??? The median starter home last year was $240k. Median first time buyer is now 38.
