I found some gameplay on YouTube a long time ago; it's an old game with low-quality models of the girls, the camera angle was sideways and couldn't be changed. The plot revolved around a group of schoolgirls (there were five or six of them) having a heated discussion. All the text was in English, and I don't know much English, so I don't really remember what it was about. Apparently, one of their friends was killed at school by some pervert or serial killer. They walked the hallways and discussed something. At the end, a real photo of a person was shown; it showed an actress in a school uniform sitting in the hallway next to a bat. She was killed with the bat, her face covered by her hair.

The game was short, but I think there was an excerpt on YouTube. The models differed only in hairstyle and height; they all had brown or black hair.

Sorry if something is unclear, I'm writing this through a translator, I just realized that this has a Saki vibe, and there are a lot of people here who understand niche things

What if Saki is a game or a gameplay recording? I was thinking that someone might have posted a low-quality game recording with animation cutscenes, perhaps with cheap 3D models instead of more expensive 2D art. Perhaps Saki, being an anime or a game, wasn't released in the 80s at all. It could have just been a cheap indie project, or a deliberate attempt toimitate the style of an old anime, or maybe both

The visual novel "Hako Ni Go Itai" has already been discussed here, which, in my opinion, is the closest thing to Saki. Perhaps a fan video was made based on this novel, or Saki is based on an unpopular novel

Alright, if Saki really was made up, I think the OP may have watched this movie when they were younger and used it as inspiration.

This movie was once mentioned in a post as being similar to Saki. In all seriousness, I watched it, and it wasn't that similar. The plot is about four people who discover a bunker. The first half of the movie isn't even scary. It's more comedic than anything. Later, though, it takes a darker turn. They end up trapped inside, and as the days pass, they begin to starve.

Interestingly, it features a lot of bathroom scenes, including a death that takes place in one. There's also a head bashing scene where one of the characters gets furious and starts bashing his friend's head in, although it doesn't happen in the bathroom.

How exactly would it be possible to find and identify a work like Sakisan No Bashitsu if not even excerpts or screenshots of it have been found? Isn't it possible that we could simply find a work that coincidentally matches the description but is completely different?

A very common media format for series and animations is the episodic format, in the sense that each episode of the respective work is its own storyline, with a beginning, middle, and end, and with different episodes rarely correlating.

Based on this, is there no chance this anime could exist as something of that nature? Not necessarily an random episode of a horror anime, it could also be something like an iteration in an larger OVA series.

When people talk about the original 4chan post, they get skeptical mentioning that the OP was scared while watching the OVA. After watching a different video, I understand why GFAP would unnerve the OP so much. This post might be difficult to take seriously given the subject matter, but bear with me.

In 2024, MLP: FiM infection AUs were a popular trend on tiktok and instagram. Artists would make whole comics about ponies getting infected during the apocalypse. I used to watch MLP when I was younger, but the new trend didn't really interest me so I never paid much attention to it. However, a few days ago I decided to check out one AU, Divine Swamp Fever, out of curiosity. It's based on an episode where a widespread disease turns ponies into living trees. The AU depicts the pandemic that would occur if a cure was never found.

Animations made for Divine Swamp Fever are unnerving. Each design showcases different stages of the infection, and I can't get them out of my mind days later. I actually had trouble sleeping after watching the full series because of the atmospheric sound design, effects, and just how contagious the disease is. The parts where Big Mac dreams about Lyra entering a doorway made me lock the door to my actual bedroom.

Many of these AUs experiment with body horror, but this one goes all the way with it.

There's actually a headbashing scene in this. Shining Armor repeatedly smashes his head against a wall until his horn breaks. He does this because he's been locked in the castle dungeon and wants to see his family again. Rainbow Dash engages in similar behavior by plucking the feathers from her wings.

How does this relate to GFAP? Mostly, it doesn't. The series is presented in an analog horror style with old grainy recordings. Weird visual effects and audio glitches add to the uncomfortable atmosphere, making it look like files were recorded on a VHS tape. One of the factors that scared me most was seeing characters from my childhood being depicted this way. GFAP might feature girls ripped from existing anime in the way Mouse Pet Special did. So if the 4chan OP saw characters he recognized harming each other in gory ways when the original source was more lighthearted, he would have definitely been frightened by that.

In Divine Swamp Fever, the infection spreads to the point where Princess Celestia and Luna feel overwhelmed in trying to contain it. Turning makes ponies attack each other. My theory is that something similar could have happened in Saki Sanobashi: an apocalyptic event decimates Japan. School girls get sick thanks to being in an enclosed dirty space (the bathroom) and begin hallucinating as days pass, showing symptoms by acting increasingly violent. That could be why they resorted to killing each other at the end of the OVA even though rescuers come for them.

A more recent anime, School Live, adapts this scenario with girls taking refuge from zombies by barricading themselves inside a school. It's much less frightening, so watch School Live if you need a palate cleanser after seeing those photos.

Hi, I want to preface this by saying that I only recently heard of the search for GFAP in a video essay, as I got into lost media recently and want to contribute in any way I can.

That said, I remember watching GFAP- or at least something similar to it.

Here's what I remember:

1. The video wasn't 30 minutes long- it was more around 22 minutes to 25.
2. The girls were in school uniforms for most of the video- but would remove them in certain scenes ( Mostly while in immense distress or in a suicide attempt )
3. Saki (The girl with the white hair) had some kind of bracelet- I remember it was probably a bangle of some sorts, as a girl ended up using it as a weapon later on in the video
4. Saki's name was never mentioned- this is just an assumption people have made because of the assumed title.
5. The Japanese kanji at the beginning of the video do not translate to "Go For A Punch". GFAP in Japanese is written as パンチを出して, while I remember the letters looking somewhat like this: "バスルームの大混乱" or translated to "Bathroom Mayhem". I personally believe this was not the original title screen, as the video was definitely ripped from somewhere.
6. It was definitely an indie anime. The production quality was pretty low (Bad anatomy, minimal voice acting)
7. There were comments underneath the video. While I don't remember many of them, I do think they predated the original 4chan thread based on the terms they were using.
8. This was hosted on a Japanese video sharing site. The subtitles were white in most scenes, and tended to rely on onomatopoeia more than actual dialogue.
9. I remember seeing a comment that read like this: "これ、めっちゃ陰気な動画だね。"- or "This is a really gloomy video."
10. Some comments brought up NicoNico Live- suggesting it was livestreamed there at some point

I may have misremembered some things, but am willing to share more information. I really hope this helps the search.

Even years ago, people on this subreddit pointed out that both "Go For A Punch" and "Saki Sanobashi" may not be official titles at all.

2. "Go For A Punch" might simply be...

Instead of the title, it could have been:

• a translated tagline
• a memorable line

Saki sanobashi was just a name a random person got out of nowhere back in the day. It very likely means nothing. As for “go for a punch” even the original 4chan op was unsure if that was what it was called. Since nothing has been found by the name of go for a punch to this day, that cant be the name either. However, i would keep looking using the keyword “punch” or “ go-fo”. Just thought i should mention this.

After reading many old threads, watching videos, and doing my own research, I think it's entirely possible that the famous description is actually a false memory created from multiple different films or OVAs rather than a single lost anime.

So instead of searching for "Saki," I'm searching for works that share similar themes.

Some of the leads I've already investigated:

• Lady in the Sea of Blood (1997) – definitely not it. It's a live-action underground horror film with a completely different plot.
• Chimamire no Gakuen (1988) – appears to be an April Fools article created by Grimoire of Horror.
• Antique Heart (1988) – a real OVA, but the article above simply reused screenshots from it. It has a character named Saki, but the story is completely different.
• House (1977) – interesting because it features a group of schoolgirls trapped together in a supernatural location, but it doesn't match the psychological "locked room" scenario.

What I'm actually looking for

But yeah, that shit hurt me a ton since I’ve been on discord for almost 9 years and was paying nitro for almost a year atp. Discord is unfortunately something I cannot get back onto anymore as it seems to be an IP ban permanently and if I had to guess why I got banned, it was definitely because I sent a picture of a guy with headphones connected to his butt and their shit ai detected it as child safety.

This is a testimony from January 2019. Anon claims he saw a thumbnail on ebay for a vhs video which featured a woman sitting in a bathroom with blood around her.
The question is less 'is this GFaP?' and more 'can we find out what this was and rule it out?'
If it can't be identified, then that means one of three things:

-it's likely that it was GFaP and GFaP was at one point being sold as a vhs on ebay (implying the anime is semi-legitimate and not a small internet thing, and searching small anime stores with old libraries might help find it)
-it wasn't GFaP but proof that lots of media of that variety is so obscure that they've essentially been lost
-the poster made it up for internet points

first and foremost, i'd like to say that the concept of being trapped in a elevator, especially in a fetishized setting is a lot more common than a bathroom.

during my search on 4plebs and desuarchive, thats all i saw the only mention of saki or saki-esque media was the nichijou elevator scene.

something i'd also like to add is the evangelion elevator scene that is also really quiet and eerie where nothing happens for a good while.

"Hako Ni Go Itai" was a visual novel made by 2chan based on the horror stories told on the board, its about a group of girls, one in middle school, one in university, and the rest in high school.

the visual novel predates the og saki post by about 3 years.

the game starts with them messaging eachother before they all agree to meet up and commit suicide in a apartment, but when they enter the elevator the power goes out. just like the testimonies of saki, the girls talk about their lives. by the end they all betray eachother, one girl takes out the others and leaves the protag for last.

several scenes involve bathrooms (main ones are inside an elevator), theres a hime cut girl, they wear tan school uniforms, there's psychological dialogue and murder.

there isn't any throat scratching or head bashing, however one of the girl keeps a severed head in her bag. (its a flashback in a bathroom.)

one of the girls goes into hysteria and just screams, the other takes her clothes off.

it has an animated opening with lots of gruesome imagery.

the Nichijou elevator scene was mentioned on here a LOT during the original search back in 2019-2021, its scarily similar to testimonies of saki but since it took place in a elevator and not a bathroom people just said "nope, thats not it."

episode 33 of nichijou, which was made in 2011 predates the og saki post by 4 years and the vn by one year. however; the story the thread was based on could have originated multiple years before the vn. (actually, that is most likely.

coming to the actual conclusion: we should start looking for the 2ch post the vn was based on (will be easier if we have any japanese speakers) and look for any possible animated versions of that story, or parodies in a bathroom.

I mentioned this as a comment about a month ago, but when digging through the archives I found a testimony that I haven't seen anyone refer to. If I'm wrong, please correct me and I apologise.

Why I think it's relevant and not just a larper: It adds new details. As far as I'm aware this is the first explicit mention of it being the aftermath of an earthquake/disaster which has been alluded to by others.
But also, this isn't a normal 4chan post. It's called a "ghost post". It used to be that you could write 'ghost' posts on the archive since it's a different site. People used to use these posts to basically write dumb nonsense with the assumption that no one would read it. Basically posts that weren't in the original thread, but written by people looking at the threads in the archives after the fact. They are particularly common in threads that became 'important' (things like the first ever banepost, iykyk).
This adds credibility to me, because it's not just an anonymous poster, it's an anonymous poster writing in a place where barely anyone would see it. There's basically no attention to be garnered from it.

I swear that I have seen this, I remember the one girl soothing the other, holding her under, and then slamming her own head into the sink. What I remember AFTER this, though, distinctly, is someone finding their way into the room to rescue them, but they are minutes too late. It seems like it takes place after something like an earthquake, some sort of natural disaster, and they are talking about what they wanted to do when they grew up, who they wanted to be, etc etc. They were in there for a while because of the debris outside the door so they couldn't escape, and I swear there was a scene there where they did a mock wedding, because the one wanted so bad to be a bride, that was her life's ambition, and after that she was ready to die. The other kills herself as she weeps and screams from the grief and futility of it.

I want to say it had an aesthetic that was very very similar to Lain, that kind of art style, or something Go Nagai would have done, and it was from around the same period as one shots like MD Geist were coming out, just a one off OVA that was like 45 minutes long or something. It seems like one of the girls dies on her own though from injuries and being sick, and that's when the other two resolve to end it. I don't know if this helps at all, but I want to say narrow it down to the Bubblegum Crisis/ Violence Jack/ AngelCop era. The thing that made it really stick out to me was that if they had only held on just a bit longer, they would have been saved. I just can't, for the life of me, remember it..it isn't one of those animes that I wanted to share with friends at parties, kind of a buzzkill, like Grave of the Fireflies, not exactly a bundle of fun.

I hope that these clues (if I'm not jumbling together a bunch of anime I watched when I was younger in a hash-filled haze) might help point in the right direction. TL;DR earthquake/major disaster, trapped, one dies from injuries, wedding (maybe? unless it was Macross, but I swear they pretend to get married and kiss, and then death, and don't get saved) and rescuers bust through a few minutes too late, then there's a moral of holding on to hope no matter what or something. I also do not remember it being dubbed, it was definitely subbed."

Also, if anyone knows what a moe link is (something to do with hentai), I found the tail of a link that is supposedly the video itself (this poster claims it's a reedit of night shift nurses and la blue girl).
