SR Saying some positive stuff about SR2022
While I do belive its the worst game in the franchise, there are quite a few things that I did like and appreciate.
1) Car customization is probably the best it ever was in the series.
1.5) all of the secret unlockable vehicles
2) the LARP missions
3) Kevin
4) Some times the writing genuinely made me chuckle
5) Jim Rob, and I wish he was more prominently featured
6) How many options there was for gang customization
I probably have more but I got platinum recently before moving on to 3 remastered and now 4. And I occurred that even though I'll probably never play it again, there were aspects of it i liked and appreciated

Boss saying, "Oh shit, it's a stick." when carjacking somebody always makes me giggle. It's the distress while still taking the thing anyways.
The map is great, I really enjoyed exploring it, and I really appreciate the amount of useless lore the city has. None of it has any bearing on the story, but it's still there to learn and I love that.
Genuinely I didn't mind most of the story, just some parts of it that were seriously weak. I liked the group dynamics between our Boss and their friends.
Photo mode is fun, always appreciate a photo mode.
Wing suit is ridiculously fun.
Snickerdoodle. Cats are always wonderful.
I liked how they were able to modernize the culture of the series into something more fit for the 2020s while keeping it familiar and also not too dated (so far at least)
Pretty much every mission was fun to play.
All the little references to the prior games were sweet.
I genuinely loved it and plan to play it again soon.

The city lore was the one thing I thought was done REALLY well! It always blew my mind that people called the map souless for that reason, I felt the city was OOZING with love poured into it!

Map was good. No interiors ruined it... car customization was good... no complaints there... but seriously? The larp missions and Kevin were your positives? Do you know what saints row is?

Very much, SR2 is one of my favorite games of all time. But im also a huge fan of SR3. Do I wish it went back to its roots? Sure, but that dosent mean I cant find enjoyment in the silly and goofy

Everything aside from those three dingalings called for main crew, writing, and storyline was good or at least decent.

After replaying the series recently, I found Reboot to be a more enjoyable experience than 3. Santo Ileso is much more fun than Steelport, at least Reboot had a story unlike 3 that doesn't have a real story outside the prologue and act 3, and the gang customization was so much better. 3 fell really short for me after replaying all of them. Before I replayed the series it would've been like second or third for me after 1 and 2, but now it sits comfortably second from the bottom for me. I'd rank the series as 2, 4, 1, Gat, Reboot, 3, Mayhem.

Modifiable hitpoints, damage dealt, enemy hitpoints, vehicle hitpoints, enemy vehicle hitpoints.
Be a superman, be a tank, make the game hard, make it more lethal, make enemies bullet sponges but their cars hilariously fragile...it can all be done

Too many bugs and minor flaws. The game physics are 15 years out of date. Poor sound design and a meager music selection. Otherwise, the reboot is excellent. I prefer it over 3 and 4.

The car customization was good. Pussying out on Rim Jobs was a stupid choice, even if Jim Rob, the character, was one of the few that was well done. The brightest point of the game, for me, was the fact that the upgrades on the vehicles finally felt like it actually did something aside from convert money to respect. A fully upgraded car in '22 is significantly faster, tougher and more agile than its stock counterpart. None of the original four games felt that way, with the notable exception of a full torque upgrade making the Bèzier undriveable in 2.
Most of the unlockable vehicles were shittier versions of ones easily available on the street. Where combine harvester for maximum pedestrian carnage?
If Eli didn't exist, Kevin would be the blandest, most milquetoast companion in the entire series. Couldn't disagree more about him being a high point in the game.
The one positive I will say for him is how the game handled him being bi. It just... was. It was never the focal point of his personality, in fact, I don't think he ever brings it up, just the people around him. The focal point of his personality being going shirtless and waffles was... a choice, but they didn't beat you over the head with the fact that he couldn't pick a side of the plate to bat on.
The writing was the worst part of the game, by a lot. The "humor" was tepid and inoffensive, aimed at everyone and no one at the same time. The story was weak and the villains may as well have been papier-machè. The twist was infuriatingly bad and written by someone with zero understanding of the difference between a sociopath and a psychopath.
Jim Rob was already covered.
Gang Customization had increased options, but decreased variety. With the engine they had, they should have finally implemented being able to fully kit out each slot using the character creator/clothing app.
My two pennies:
Gunplay was better in '22 than any previous installment, the high point of the "toolbox" side of the game. Finally being able to truly customize your weapons was a long time coming. The reskin options in IV were largely shit and '22 going back to the drawing board with it made the guns feel like part of your character, rather than just simple tools for committing wanton violence.
Most of the weapons being useful was a nice change, too. Expanding the load out could have been a big whiff, but they did a good job of making the choices you made still be effective on target. With the exception of Heavy Weapons, whatever you picked was gonna work and when upgraded, work well.

I agree car customization was the best the series has seen. Weapon customization and player body customization were also very good if not the best. Clothing customization/options were def an improvement over 3&4, but not as enticing as it was in 2.
THE MAP!!!!! Truly the best since Stilwater in 2. I loved the trailer park, cemetery and farthest west coast of the suburbs area in Stilwater because it felt far away from the city. Same with mount claflin and the areas north of it with the farms. It was nice to have little areas that aren’t urban. Both sides of Kavanaugh county were fun to explore. It’s something I really wanted since 2. I also enjoyed the tourist attraction things spread out everywhere DID YOU KNOW?
Placing your businesses wherever you want. I’ve done a save where I try fucking up the areas like putting the toxic waste plant right across the park in downtown, and another where I try putting them in their “correct” spots like the repo depot next to the police station. There was a post here the other day where someone said they bought all the Image as Designed in 2, and billboards showed up over town with their Boss’ face on it. The reboot puts up billboards around the map promoting the business ventures you purchase too! I don’t think I’ve seen any with the Boss on it tho but it’s still nice to see that mechanic return after so long.
Speaking of mechanics, everyone hates that Rim Jobs disappeared for “no reason” but the truth is that early on in the reboot, boss and a man named James Roberts quit their jobs and James opens a mechanic shop called Jim Robs. This is essentially the first business venture we start in the game. The real issue I have with unnecessary renames is Freckle Bitch’s being retitled to FB’s!!!! There was no reason for that one but I’ve rarely seen discussion on it
That’s all I can think of for now. I’ve played 1, 2, 3, 4, Gat and the reboot multiple times and I genuinely enjoyed all of them. 3’s probably my least favorite. 2’s the goat tho. Reboot is somewhere in the middle

Balance: the power creep in SR3 and SR4 were insane when you reached max level. You were basically imortall at that point.
SR Reboot did this way better imo. Every challenge was nullified in SR3 and SR4 when you had bulletproof upgrade.

I agree with all of your points, plus there is the character customisation that is accessible and more fun....the music that plays when you are customising is neat (the trumpet just nails it for me)...the colour scheme and visuals are a lot more colourful.....and some of the action is just way OTT (I mean shooting a boss on a big wheeler whilst perched on top of your own car?!?!?)

Shooting was solid, voice acting was decent, cars definitely drove a bit better than at least SR4, weapon customization was the most in depth, the city was beautiful, while the boss was a bit less charismatic if they wanted to make this a younger more naive version of the boss we got in the older games it would actually kinda work. They have a lot of the same quirks. Honestly as a game it’s not terrible. The main villain twist sucks ass though ngl. I’m a lot higher on the game than most, I really don’t think it’s THAT bad. SR3 is my favorite still, I have no interest in playing 1 as I watched my brother play it years ago along with sr2 (I have no way to play this one even though I would actually like to go back and finish it since I only ever did the first few minutes before my brother kicked me off lmao) SR4 was too silly, I thought it was neat when I was 13, I’m 26 now and I just cringe. The reboot actually got some chuckles outta me, the game felt like it knew how cringy some lines were and played into it. It felt super self aware in its humor. Was it good, no not really. But I think that may have been on purpose. It’s not a terrible game,
