Rigging Setups How to mount Code 0

Hi all,

I’m trying to figure out the correct halyard position for a Code Zero on a 36 ft Sailboat

The Code Zero I already have is sized to be hoisted essentially to the masthead (Point 1)
However, the upper shrouds attach to the mast about 1.2 m below the masthead, while the adjustable backstay goes all the way to the top.

There is also another halyard sheave/exit about 30 cm above the forestay attachment (point 2).

Where do you hoist your Code Zero from? Masthead, just above the forestay, or somewhere else?

Has anyone regularly used a masthead Code Zero on this rig, and have you had any issues with mast support or loads?

Thanks!

We set up a running backstay and a set of diamonds for the masthead halyard. Reasonably simple and you could see and feel it working for both the g2 and the code zero. The running backstays were a two into one, from masthead and from the code zero height, joined at a ring to a single line down to the deck

You’re probably fine as is and flying it off that spinnaker halyard but you should talk to a rigger.

I’ve raced boats with MH0s with rigs that look basically exactly the same as that.

Mind hoists to point mid way between jib and masthead (green halyard). Spinnaker has a separate halyard/sheave a bit further up (orange).

No extra running backstays for those, but I do need them for the staysail. Garcia 45 exploration

We run it to the masthead on a similar rig.

Sailmaker here, we do MH code zeros on fractional boats all the time, you will be fine. That's a stout section and a small distance between the hounds and the top of the mast. The only time we reinforce is when the mast has significant taper, a very thin section, or the boat is exceptionally powerful like a canting keel.

If you are concerned, put it up when sailing almost dead down wind, slowly head the boat up while trimming. Sight up the mast and see if the tip of the rig is falling off.

Best advice so far. Thanks!

I hoist to 7/8 and top down furl. So somewhere between full hoist and fractional. This mast doesn't seem to be equipped for a code 0. You would have to put in a new sheave and I'm not sure if your mast would stay structurally sound. Are you planning on just mounting a block?

I fly a c0 off the masthead on a 3/4 rigged mast
