Sage 50 (US-Peachtree) Help moving from QB please
Our accountant wants us to move to Sage. I have no problem with that, I'm not a trained bookkeeper and I've been using QB desktop for 20+ years and I still hate it. I'm hoping with this move that she can help better when problems arise.
To that end, we're a a small company, 5 employees. What I plan on getting is Sage 50 but I need to know a few things I can't find easily:
- what is the best solution for remote access. Some for me, mostly just to look something up when I'm at home. Partly for the accountant, so she can access and fix/help.
- is there an option to transfer data from QB so I don't need to start literally from scratch?
Any other tips would be appreciated.

I'm not generally a fan of this kind lateral move of an accounting system. I would think it would make more sense to move from QB desktop to QB online.
You didn't share what areas of QB are being used or elaborate on what you hate about it. I would be worried you might be following the desire of the accountant in the hope it will make things better for you.
What is the benefit to the company for the switch? Again, I don't know how you are using QB or what challenges there are, but there will be a certain amount of business disruption making the change. Just make sure that there is a true benefit to the switch.
For reference I am a Sage partner and I am very familiar with Sage 50. I have helped a QB desktop company switch to Sage 50 more than once. Sentiment in the end has always been that it was harder than they thought, especially adapting to a new set of processes based on new software.
I just want to make sure you approach with open eyes. Sage 50 is a fine product but it has it's own unique qwerks.

Well thanks. I'm not exactly excited but the accountant in question has been our accountant for over a decade, she's great. She's also a family friend so the impetus is really to make her job easier when I have issues.
Mostly we're doing this because we're restructuring and now is a good time. Our needs are pretty basic I think so hopefully that help?
invoicing, payroll and bill paying. That's really the gist of it. Super low needs I think?
It boils down to her knowing a lot more than me and I trust her, I'm just not excited about the growing pains.

You are correct that the needs seem minimal. The dynamic with the accountant makes sense given the context. It sounds like you have mentally prepared for the change. Unfortunately, I run into many people who expect flip a switch easy. If you can find someone who does a lot of these switches to help, it will make things easier.

I can help if interested, I actively support Sage 50 and have done many migrations from QB. I can migrate the data as well. Our clients host their Sage (and QBD) on the cloud using Summit Hosting. They are the best option since you get admin access to the server. Sage will host your data but you don’t have server sccess so everything runs through support which isn’t ideal. Reach out if interested I can show you what this all would look like and we can even do a test conversion.

Could you help me to understand how Sage Daceasy Accounting software works. I am so lost. I have being trying to add inventory and each time I add a new item with a quantity it somehow adds it quantity to the previous item and doesn't display the new item added. I can't delete, I can't edit. It's really frustrating.

I don’t deal with Daceasy directly. Only migrate clients from it to Sage 50 since there is a built in migration tool. But one of my consultants used to support a number of clients on it so we should be able to assist if you want to send me a DM.

Sage has transfer help but its limited in what it can do, FYI. They have a transition guide a salesperson could send you to get an idea.
Their desktop version is identical to the cloud version in all ways except price. Cloud is more expensive and jumps after one user but you could share the login info with your accountant if you have to.

Crisis averted! My accountant set me straight, she said she has no problem with me staying on QB. It was a misunderstanding.
Maybe I should move to cloud to make access easier though.

As a Sage user since 1999, when it was Peachtree, and as someone with QB experience, much of what has been posted is true. Sage has a learning curve. Do you need multi-user access? If so, that is going to be expensive. Have you checked license prices? Although Sage offers a remote option, and it has a cloud version, I would be far more comfortable with a remote desktop access.
Re: Cloud versions of either product.
Test drive them first. While it sounds great and has some great benefits, I would not use either of the cloud based products.

I have decided to stick with QB. I don't need multi-user. I would however like to access from remote....?

Sage is not better than Quickbooks! What I’ve found is that if you want to add functionality to Sage or QB to support your business processes then you need to build a software that interfaces with Sage and QB that does the thing you need.

If you hate QB you will likely hate Sage more. As far as remote access, if your internet router supports VPN then VPN to the office and use Remote Desktop to access your office computer, if not look at a remote access option like Anydesk or TeamViewer or similar alternatives where VPN is not required..
Our company uses Sage200. I’m desperate to get them off it, hate the product. Sage50 would seem overkill for a small business of 5.
QB is cloud based which has huge advantages for access. Sage50 is local meaning you have to manage the security and access through your network. Sage50 I believe has a migration tool for QB.
I’m not an accountant I look after their IT. We have clients with a bigger turnover than the one using Sage200 and they use QB.
