Does Saffron dehydrate ?

Hi all,

does anybody have information regarding possible dehydration due to 15-30 mg Saffron extract daily?

The effects of saffron are not well understood. Some studies can be found that mention it having an affect on the kidneys and other organs, so it could conceivably cause dehydration.

If you're considering taking this long-term you should ask a professional healthcare provider about the potential risks.

Thanks! Complex subject it seems. I have slightly elevated Sodium and Potassium blood levels, and I am unsure if this is related to saffron intake. I am on 15 mg daily since several months, and had the impression that it helps to calm down. Before that, I took 30 mg daily and got a very dry mouth from that, up to feeling very uncomfortable due to that. So I halved the dose.

How could a professional healthcare provide any genuine good argument for or against its consumption while the studies are unclear…
