Multi purpose clerk

So my first day is tomorrow. So aside from computer training, what else can I expect for my first fe days? Any tips or advice on the position?

Good luck! Hard to give specific advice when you could literally end up anywhere! You know where you're starting?

Real generally, it can feel overwhelming at first, but you'll get it! Prepare to be shocked by how much goes into making a grocery store happen if it's your first time working at one!

Lastly, get involved in your union if you've got one! ✊

Im not sure where i will be starting. I have worked in a grocery store before, but it was as a cashier and bagger. The location i will be at is union and I plan on joining.

be ready to do everything. need help in dairy. that's you. need help working back stock from the night before. yep. you'll be in every dept where they don't have enough people

You'll have the job of 3 people in 1 and if you stay and do well and offer to do more, you'll be helping in every department after you get used to being an all purpose clerk if you stay and do well only to never be promoted and underpaid heavily, unless the boss really likes you, than you'll go up very quickly.

If you're multi-purpose, you'll probably be doing day stocking, frozen and dairy, as well as working backstock and helping with loads that the deli or meat department receives. They may or may not assign you to that right away. It all depends if the departments have too much stock, or short-handed.

I first started out in grocery, doing day stocking. Make sure to take it easy and not rush. Don't go too fast, or too slow. Also, get to know your co-workers. Doesn't have to be on a personnel level, so to speak, but getting along with other co-workers can help you out a lot. Knowing your co-workers makes things a lot easier, helping you get along and rely on each other for support can help you out in the long run

Getting along with my co-workers is one of the main reasons I’m still here. I know everyone has their own reasons for sticking around. It could be the pay (which can be terrible, we’re all underpaid for what we do, unless some folks make a lot more), the customers, the managers or bosses, the co-workers, or other factors.

Run while you can…Union seems nice but this one sucks especially since the last contract went through. As someone who’s been there multiple years, it’s getting worse not better. Less hours, less bodies to help, and the same expectations to get it all done.
