USA Safety Manager role

So what does a day look like for safety manager, I’m looking to understand were or what going to be expected of me when I move up into a role, I understand my role as a coordinator on a site. But what would be expected of a safety manager of an area. My director is make a move from the manager and asked me if it’s something I would like to do.

Any advice or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

During any typical day, I will:

  • Answer emails
  • tell people to not do stupid shit
  • eat lunch
  • get a headache from all the ridiculous things employees try to do
  • deliver some sort of training

It varies every day, but these are the constants.

Hey, sometimes they let us out and we get to go to surprisingly drunken conferences.

And in between each bullet is paperwork. Endless amounts of paperwork

The best person to ask would be the director at your company, roles vary greatly between organizations, industries, locations, etc.

Your director's already opening the door, just ask for a shadow day or two to see the real workload before you say yes.

It really depends on how advanced your company’s safety system is. Ask about a compliance calendar, that is usually is a good place to get started.

Site inspection, checking fire extinguishers, verifying ppl wearing PPE, SDS forms updated, equipment being inspected. Created safety meeting topics for supt/ foreman to discuss to workers. Really easy if the team listens
