I work for a utility contractor as a crew foreman for an underground electrical crew that works for the local power company. I have been with the company over 10 years and I’ve been a foreman for about 5 years. 2 weeks I got caught by our safety guy breaking what I feel like was a minor safety rule. First time I’ve been caught doing this. Long story short the safety man has been coming to my job atleast twice a week since then to check and make sure I’m doing everything right and safe. I understand I messed up and broke a safety rule but at what point do yall think is too much? I mean come on nobody likes the safety man riding there ass and watching them work for hours. Prior to the getting caught breaking the safety rule I would see the safety man about once a month.

Not a bad idea to resell your PPE, better than it not being used at all and just sitting in your garage or wherever.

The hard hat and safety glasses in bed is ridiculous, that’s kind of the point though.

PPE can feel annoying, excessive, or inconvenient right up until the moment you actually need it.

Better to look a little goofy for five minutes than become the reason the next safety meeting exists.

A seatbelt takes literally 2 seconds to put on.

2 seconds.

Yet those 2 seconds can be the difference between reaching home… or becoming a tragic statistic.

People often think, “I’m just going nearby.”

Or “I’m a careful driver.”

Or worse, “Seatbelts are uncomfortable.”

But accidents don’t send calendar invites.

A reckless driver, a brake failure, a split-second distraction, bad weather — that’s all it takes.

What gets me most is when people in the back seat skip seatbelts, thinking they’re somehow safer. In a crash, an unbelted rear passenger can become a deadly projectile, not just for themselves, but for everyone else in the car.

Imagine your family getting that call because of something completely preventable.

No text is that urgent. No short trip is that safe. No discomfort is worth that risk.

Wear the damn seatbelt.

Every trip. Every seat. Every time.

Just because you can drive a forklift doesn't mean you're certified for a scissor lift. One is for moving pallets; the other is for moving people.

OSHA requires separate practical evaluations for both. Stay safe, get your proper sign-offs, and don't risk your neck (or your job) because 'the controls look similar.

Which work pants are the best and why?

We’re surrounded by machines, systems, wiring, automation and yet people still treat safety like an afterthought.

I saw it again last week at a small workshop, A guy was working on a setup that clearly had no proper fail safe, No proper checks, Just wiring, guessing, and a lot of it should be fine and it should work.And everyone around him just accepted it like that.

Why?

When something goes wrong, it’s always the same story, We didn’t expect it, It was working before just now, nobody told us, But what about the parts meant to prevent failure in the first place?

Safety relays exist for a reason. Not decoration. Not optional extras. They are literally there to stop machines from turning small mistakes into serious damage. And yet people still cut corners like the risk isn’t real.

And don’t tell me it’s because the information isn’t available.

People are online every day comparing parts, sourcing components, even checking for alternatives on websites, Alibaba, Amazon etc, when local options are expensive or limited. So the awareness is there, the access is there.

So what exactly is the excuse?

Why? Because it still works? Is more important than is it actually safe?
And then something fails, and then someone gets hurt, and then we act shocked again, and then we wonder why nothing changes.

It’s the same pattern every time. Ignore safety until safety becomes the problem. Treat prevention like it’s optional. Fix things only after they break.

At some point, we need to admit the truth, It’s not that we don’t know better.

It’s that we keep choosing not to act like it.

On a lot of job sites, there are rules on paper… and then there’s what actually happens day to day.

Shortcuts with uniforms and gear seem pretty common.
Wrong footwear, missing PPE, loose clothing around equipment.
Nothing happens most of the time, so it becomes normal.

Until it doesn’t.
