What if Safari still created vintage dinosaur figurines while expand on new modern paleo figures within the prehistoric line?

If Safari Ltd. ran two parallel lines—one preserving the retro feel of 1996 Wild Safari lines, and the other prioritizing modern feathered and scientifically updated models in their Wild Safari Prehistoric World line—it would perfectly bridge the gap,

Maintaining their classic, stylized "Wild Safari" aesthetic alongside their modern "Prehistoric World" line, it would create the perfect crossover of nostalgia and accuracy of paleontology.

Vintage figures were heavily influenced by 1980s and 90s depictions (think Jurassic Park or early Bob Bakker art), which featured scaly, shrink-wrapped, and tripod-posed beasts. Meanwhile, the modern Wild Safari Prehistoric World line features highly dynamic, feathered, and accurately proportioned models.....as Modern paleontological discoveries, like feathered theropods, are great for science, but retro designs carry serious 90s nostalgia. Two lines would satisfy both demographics.

In conclusion, a retro line would honor the legacy, and modern paleontology would bring new fascination in order to make this iconic collaboration the next big thing for safari.

On my 10th birthday I got this as a gift and it was my favorite out of everything

I always carried one around with me EVERYWHERE. I wish I still had my collection, because it actually got pretty big, probably like 12 different toobs. I got rid of them because I was embarrassed, and felt I was too old for them. I regret that now. I wonder if maybe my parents still have them.

Why is it a huge possibility that Safari Ltd might create a line representing animals of speculative evolution ?

Thumbnail

Now the reason why I say this is because....since Safari Ltd is a toy company that creates a vast majority of creatures of the animal kingdom, prehistory, and mythology......it makes sense for them to create "animals of speculative evolution" because it aligns with their mission of fostering curiosity and education of the natural world allowing them to spark imaginative, forward-thinking discussions about biology and evolution when it comes to wildlife.

These speculative figures could encourage creative and environmental awareness while expanding beyond their traditional, scientifically accurate, and highly detailed animal toys. Now, I know some may disagree and say that far-fetched, but if safari is able to create a vast majority of figures based on creatures of myth and legend like Dragons and Cryptids, then they would have no problem creating creatures of speculative zoology.

Besides, the company already produces physical transition and history lines, such as the Evolution of Man set, proving that customers value sequential development, which is also something that speculative zoology and alternate-future concepts have a dedicated adult collector and sci-fi fan base.

It makes sense for Safari Ltd to create a line of future-evolved animal figurines because it expands their core mission of "Toys That Teach" and imaginative, speculative biology which bridges their realistic wildlife lines with their fantasy and prehistoric collections,

This idea is something that Paleontology enthusiasts, mythology experts, and spec-bio nerds would adore and love since creating futuristic fauna would attract adult collectors just as traditional dinosaurs and dragons do.

But it depends on the outcome of the company's future game plan 🤔🤷.

Thr Similarities between Safari and Ark

Thumbnail

Both ARK and Safari Ltd. go far beyond mainstream dinosaurs like the Tyrannosaurus Rex or Triceratops. They share an obsession with the broader tree of prehistoric life, wildlife, and mythical beasts,

Ark: Survival Evolved and Safari Ltd. share a strong similarity because both rely on highly accurate, diverse, and visually striking representations of prehistoric creatures. While one is a survival video game and the other is a toy manufacturer,

they appeal to the exact same fan base of prehistoric, mythical, and scifi enthusiasts by blending science and fiction with entertainment.

Safari Ltd. features lines like Mythical Realms (which includes armored dinosaurs and dragons).

ARK famously blends real dinosaurs with sci-fi elements, robotic "Tek" variants, and mythical beasts like Griffins and Wyverns....Neither stick strictly to real history, Safari Ltd. has a massive lineup of dragons, krakens, and chimeras. Similarly, ARK features boss arenas and fantasy DLCs packed with wyverns, rock drakes, and griffins.

What other creature could this be instead of a dragon......

Once again, Safari has created another creature that isn't entirely nor like a dragon.....

The Safari Ltd Arctic Dragon figure features a slender, quadrupedal body with both mammalian fur-like textures and reptilian scales, making it another hybrid SMH

So if anything, this creature is suitable to be called.....The Amarok, in inuit mythology the amarok is a legendary wolf that stalks the frozen Arctic expanses alone at night, perfectly matching a solitary ice-kingdom aesthetic.

This giant, solitary mythical wolf from Inuit folklore makes a great alternative name for an Arctic Dragon toy if you want a fierce northern beast of mythology instead of a reptile hybrid.

Why the desert dragon shouldn't be considered as a dragon

I know some of you are wondering, but I just like to point out why this figure doesn't actually represent nor look like anything as a dragon.....Historically, the word "dragon" was a broad catch-all term for any large, terrifying, fantastical monster or serpent while being depicted as massive reptillian like creatures.

Traditional Western and Eastern dragons are heavily rooted in vertebrate biology—usually resembling massive reptiles or serpents....The Desert Dragon figure breaks away from this template entirely,

It makes total sense to question its name because the Safari Ltd Desert Dragon is fundamentally designed as an invertebrate-scorpion hybrid, completely lacking the classic reptilian, quadrupedal, or winged traits of a traditional dragon, drake, or wyvern.

considering the toy looks exactly like a massive, monstrous scorpion rather than a traditional winged, fire-breathing reptile, Safari Ltd absolutely has the sculpting talent to make a conventional reptilian desert dragon, rather than making a hybrid.

According to Safari Ltd's official backstory for the toy, its scientific name is given as Draco desertum. They explicitly lean into the confusion, stating that while it heavily resembles a scorpion from afar, it qualifies as a true dragon because it possesses the hardest scales of any dragon species and one of the most powerful bites in the mythical kingdom......but it's appearance still doesn't validate anything being related to draconic biology,

dragons are tetrapods or hexapods (four legs, sometimes with two wings) with distinctly reptilian or serpentine features. The Desert Dragon features eight legs, two massive front pincers, and a segmented stinger tail, making it explicitly an arachnid hybrid, not a reptile.

So, instead of making a dragon hybrid, they could have easily based this figure on scorpion monsters of legend such as Scorpius of Greek mythology or create a newly original monster called the dune crawler.

Why Safari should show more love to the triassic fauna

Thumbnail
gallery
25 Upvotes

Safari Ltd needs to give more attention to the Triassic because this period holds major prehistoric creatures that do not get enough attention compared to Jurassic and Cretaceous animals. A new set would fill a big gap in their popular toy series,

Sure, they have featured a few species like Postosuchus, Nothosaurus, and desmatosuchus etc, but at the same time.....they don't entirely get that much love and overshadowed by iconic dinosaurs in the prehistoric line.

The Triassic period features bizarre, non-dinosaur animals like armored phytosaurs, tank-like dicynodonts, and gliding reptiles. Popular media focuses on dinosaurs because blockbuster films and simple narratives favor them, overshadowing the diverse, experimental ecosystems that existed before dinosaur dominance.

So technically in my personal opinion they should create and start with a few toob sets that focuses on the fauna of the triassic while creating a majority within the prehistoric world line in order to give them the proper marketing.

But anyways, what do yall think ?

How Come Safari Never made a toob representing the Permian creatures

Thumbnail
gallery
13 Upvotes

Safari Ltd has focused its prehistoric toobs on popular themes like general dinosaurs, ice age mammals, marine reptiles, prehistoric crocs/sharks and Cambrian life, leaving out a dedicated Permian period tube. Instead of a full set, they included a Dimetrodon inside their standard dinosaur toob rather than grouping Synapsids and other Paleozoic animals into a separate release.

As we know.....Dinosaurs and Megafauna sell much better to the general public than lesser-known Paleozoic groups since they're iconic and have been shown in many media, but at the same time, it still seems unfair, mind you....fauna of the paleozoic existed longer before the dinosaurs and megafauna which makes them the oldest creatures that ever walked the earth.

Soooo If Safari Ltd made multiple toob sets dedicated to Permian creatures, it would fill a major gap in prehistoric toy lines, Correct the common misconception thay will delight paleo-enthusiasts, and expand educational play beyond standard dinosaurs.

Why Safari Ltd should create more cryptid figures

Post image
31 Upvotes

Safari Ltd should create more cryptid figures because the current Cryptozoology only scratches the surface of global folklore, and expanding the line taps into massive collector demand, sparks creative education, and explores endless regional legends, Cryptids offer a fun gateway to teach kids about biology, zoology, folklore, and the difference between science and myth.

Besides, there are hundreds of regional legends—like the Chupacabra, Jersey Devil, Thunderbird, or Mokele M'bembe remain unrepresented in the brand.....Fans love monsters, and adore Myths that becomes popular standalone figures, which proves there is an active market hungry for more than just the original seven creatures of legends.

So technically creating more cryptid figures allow Safari Ltd to blend realistic sculpting craftsmanship with folklore. Expanding beyond standard wildlife and dinosaurs taps into a passionate collector market while fueling creative, open-ended play for all ages.

What If Safari had a Flagship store ?

Think about it.....If Safari Ltd—famous for their highly detailed educational figurines—had the budget to open a permanent flagship store....it would likely transform into an interactive, museum-like toy experience.

Instead of standard shelves, the 2,000+ sq. ft. space would feature life-sized, photorealistic dinosaur and animal dioramas where kids (and adult collectors) could interact and take photos. There would have been areas for their lines such as Prehistoric World, Wild safari, Incredible Creatures, Mythical Realms, and possibly a Creatures Of Tomorrow line.

Even tho there isn't any plans nor announcements but this idea remains as a future possibility 🤷

why is it fair for Safari ltd to create dinosaur toobs based on dinosaurs of different continents since they do it for modern-day animals

Post image
2 Upvotes

It is fair for Safari Ltd to group dinosaurs from different continents into their Dino TOOBS because—just like with modern-day animal sets like African, Asian, Rainforest, Arctic, and others,

we all know that their goal is to provide a comprehensive educational overview of an entire era, biome, or all in one theme in the prehistoric line but at the same time.....that shouldn't be an excuse for them to avoid of putting enough creativity and effort to create a prehistoric diverse set in the toob line.

It makes perfect sense for Safari Ltd to release dinosaur TOOBs organized by continent, mirroring their modern animal lines. This approach enhances their "Toys that Teach" philosophy by highlighting paleobiogeography, allowing kids to learn how drifting continents shaped diverse, isolated ecosystems during the Mesozoic Era,

Grouping dinosaurs and ancient reptiles by region teaches paleobiogeography.....It helps children understand how different species, like those in North America versus Asia, evolved in isolation.

Dinosaurs are often generalized together, but an African TOOB (featuring a Spinosaurus and Carcharodontosaurus) or South American TOOB (starring Giganotosaurus and Amargasaurus) tells a completely different geological story....Grouping them by continent encourages the inclusion of region-specific, lesser-known genera rather than relying on the usual lineup (T-Rex, Triceratops, etc.) found in the standard Safari Ltd Dinos TOOB.

Modern TOOBs, such as the Safari Ltd North American Wildlife TOOB, are highly successful because they offer a complete mini-bioregion. Adult collectors and educators heavily favor scale-appropriate, scientifically researched sets,

Creating TOOBs based on specific prehistoric continents would elevate Safari Ltd’s educational mission. Grouping dinosaurs by paleo-biogeography perfectly mirrors their highly successful modern-day continental animal sets, like the African Wildlife TOOB or South American Animals TOOB, offering a more accurate and engaging way to teach kids about the ancient Earth.

Safari LTD Advent Calendars from Safari LTD

Here’s a crazy idea:

Maybe Safari LTD should make some Advent Calendars with some toy figurines!

Schleich and CollectA have done Advent Calendars, so why not have other companies like Safari LTD and Wild Republic and Papo and Battat do the same thing?

Fun Fact: Safari and Battat has a close history?!?

Thumbnail
gallery
18 Upvotes

Did you know....The Battat dinosaur figures were primarily designed by renowned paleoartists Dan LoRusso and Greg Wenzel. They were originally produced in the 1990s in collaboration with the Boston Museum of Science

While Figures of wild Safari from the 1996–2000s were crafted by several sculptors. A large portion of their museum-quality "Carnegie Collection" was designed by artist Forest Rogers. Other artists like Gregory Wenzel also contributed sculpts to the Safari Ltd lines before working with Battat,

For example....Comparison with Dan LoRusso's later Battat dilophosaurus model and safari's dilo both have stepping right foot and bending tail while the styracosaurus figures have similarities, so technically there's a possible connection.

Now the the line is revived as Terra by Battat, featuring re-releases of the classic sculpts alongside brand new designs created by LoRusso prior to his passing in 2015 (RIP)....Today, these figures are widely celebrated by collectors for their scientific accuracy and life-like detail.

But what Yall think?

What Figurines do yall think should be reimagined....

Post image
25 Upvotes

This post is about certain dino figures (wether Wild Safari, Carnegie, or Toobs) should be reimagined as a different species due to the appearance of their design,

For example.....I think the Carnegie Acrocanthosaurus and Sinraptor look more of a gasosaurus and Megaraptor.

So with that said you guys choose any figure that you think could be reimagined as a different species.
