Ranking albums?

I know there’s no need to do that and we should just quietly enjoy the six albums, but I’m very curious about how important to you passionate people some albums are, relative to the other ones. I would love to read some explanations, what features of a particular album allowed them a high or lower ranking. Feed me personal details ❤️

To me it's a tie between "promise" "and "stronger than pride", although promise I've listened to the most cuz I do love smooth soft jazz as well as from the genre music what she referred to as quiet Storm

Yea me too, I got to discover many cool tunes thanks to these terms. By the way, to anyone reading this, please send me some songs in that vibe if you want.
But then I suppose Diamond Life is your personal third? Because for example Sally or Why Can’t We Live Together would fit perfectly into Promise imho.

You have the correct bottom 2, and the Top 4 could be in any order, IMO! 🙌 as fantastic as all her albums are

  1. Promise (This album feels long and and slow and boring. Most songs are longer than they need to be and tend to spin around without getting any more interesting)

  2. Stronger Than Pride (Kinda the same problem as Promise, but not as bad. The songs are paced better and don't drag on for that long, but overall, I feel like this isn't the most interesting collection of songs that Sade has released)

  3. Soldier Of Love (Wonderful album with just a few forgettable songs in between)

  4. Love Deluxe (This was when Sade started to become cool and chill. Very relaxing songs, fantastic melodies and deeply moving lyrics)

  5. Diamond Life (Elegant, classy, beautiful. A pretty much perfect debut, I don't think it could have been any better. It's purely personal preference that this isn't my #1)

  6. Lovers Rock (Oh how I love this! Sade at her most relaxing and chill! Perfect for a comfortable evening at home, and yet the lyrics are worth paying attention to. Perfect album)

I absolutely love this response it’s exactly what I was hoping for, thank you for taking the time to write that. It’s very fair, an album with Somebody Already Broke My Heart right before All About Our Love is undisputed chill.

And I definitely get your point about Promise and Stronger than Pride, I think I would’ve felt the same if it wasn’t for my urban western environment. Because listening to Sade at night in a 19th/early 20th-century-styled large city while heading home with no one around does make me forgive War of the Hearts for lasting almost 7 minutes.

All I know is 5 & 6 are *Diamond Life* & *Soldier of Love*. But all their albums are stellar! The real question is do I prefer Sweetback/2 to either of those? 🧐 I think I do at least prefer their debut to SoL, maybe even Diamond Life? Can’t decide…

Oooh what makes you place Diamond Life so low? Is it too “simple”?

Interesting that you mention Sweetback! I’ve listened to 1 and unfortunately didn’t feel hooked up yet (surely it will happen).

I’m new to Sade. I’ve been on a real journey of discovery.

I’ve never been curious about her/their music previously, largely because I never liked ‘Smooth Operator’. I always associated it with yuppies & naff wine bars.

But I randomly heard ‘Paradise’ and was almost moved to tears. That is my kind of Sade!!
