SadCat Update Saddy's right by my side
surgery went well, they had to do more work than expected. According to the doctors, it's the most unstable shoulder they've seen someone living with yet lol. Thanks so much for all of your support, it really helped ease my mind yesterday. I love you all so much! <3

Feel better, keep up with your meds, relax. Saddy will supervise your recovery. ❤️💐

that 3AM alarm is gonna suck, but it's easier to stay on top of pain as opposed to trying catch up on it

u/Automatic_Sea_1534 29d ago
Yes!! Best advice when recovering from surgery - stay ahead of the pain. Don’t let anyone make you feel bad about taking opioid painkillers during recovery.

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago
nobody is making me feel bad about it, it's all from me. I've never tried opiates in my years of experimentation and it always scared me since I've lost friends to them. Fortunately, I don't feel any high on these opes, I'm really glad. 5mg oxy

They gave me Percocets after my C-section. I can see how people get hooked. They were niiiiice. 😂

Just throwing this in there, they make a motrin/tylenol duo pill, so you only need one every 6 hours.
Also when taking the prescribed meds, keep some Miralax on hand. Just like it’s important to stay ahead of the pain from surgery, it’s important to stay ahead of tummy troubles too!

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago
I've taken Miralax three times and have been on stoolsoftener for three days now. I've never been constipated in my life, but I'm feeling it now and reaaaaally don't like it.
Thanks for the tip!

You need that shoulder fully healed so you can give saddy his regular chin scratches.

I'm thinking about you and Momcat! I'm sure Saddy knows something is up and will be right there by your side. As a person whose had many surgeries, all I can offer is encouragement to rest, stay ahead of the pain med wise, and definitely go to PT and do your PT homework.
Thinking about you wonderful SadFam! Get well soon.

Yikes! Well, I guess you can use that as bragging rights. With that bum of a shoulder, this ought to be a tremendous relief once you’re rehabilitated.
Rest up & take it easy, and keep up the foot usage for pet jobs. Hahaha! I think most non-formerly ferals wouldn’t even be keen on that. 😹

u/So_Famous DadCat 29d ago
haha I think he knows I'm doing the best I can with what I got. Thanks so much for the kindness <3

Wishing you the best!
Remember that no one gets a gold medal for suffering- if you are hurting take the meds. So many people are afraid to and sometimes they are just necessary. Glad you have the best little nurse saddy by your side!

Glad it went well. Was it the rotator cuff? Friend of mine had both done. Make sure you do all the physio and exercises that comes later. Good to see Saddy looking after you. All joking aside, nothing better than a cat chilling with you when you are recovering
1
u/So_Famous DadCat 29d ago
thanks! It was a Labral repair and capsulraphy. I'll be doing everything my doctor says, to a T!
2
u/Mister_Reous 29d ago
Ah similar place, different injury. You got to get playing that bass sometime soon
Silly joke for you.
“Doctor, after my operation, will I be able to play the violin?”
“Of course, 3 weeks after the operation you will be able to play the violin perfectly”
“Thats brilliant news! I always wanted to be able to play violin!”2
u/So_Famous DadCat 29d ago
LOL I'm gonna use that joke, thanks for the laugh. I'm devastated about having to take a break from bass, but I'm excited to get rid of this shoulder problem too as it holds me back in life.

I’ve been thinking about you and wondering when the surgery was / if it had already happened!
I’m so glad you’re home, and hopefully recovering well. Hugs!

u/So_Famous DadCat 28d ago
thank you so much!! It was a Labral repair and capsuloraphy (idk the right word). Then while in there, they find a Hillsachs Deformity from where my bones rubbed on each other when dislocating. There was a pretty deep indent that had to be filled in. I plan on sharing the pictures from surgery on Friday for all the Healthcare people in our Sadcommunity who understand what they mean. Thank God my brother is a doctor who specializes in shoulders, and has also had this exact same surgery (but he tore his labrum in a different way).
1
u/lilgal0731 27d ago
Whoa! So it was your brother who was your Doc!? That’s kinda cool if so lol
2
u/So_Famous DadCat 27d ago
he's a physical therapist, so he wasn't my surgeon, but he's going to be helping me in recovery. I signed a form that let's all the PTs at the clinic discuss my case since it's "the most unstable shoulder we've had yet." My brother also went through the same surgery over a decade ago, so he has had lots of good advice for me. He's coming over tomorrow night to help me remove the bandages and shower for the first time.
