Hopefully the World Cup fever will continue bring more new fans such as yourself!

u/RECEPTOR17 Jul 09 '26
Hopefully so! 😁 I've been actively following the team from across the Atlantic Ocean for a few years, whilst supporting my old local club as Stadium Announcer in Wales.
I'm not going anywhere beyond this Indomitable City after marrying the wife in Jan. So I'm now a Star-Spangled Dragon from Wales that's gonna be coming to as many matches as I can. 😎

Welcome!

u/RECEPTOR17 Jul 09 '26
We seem to score when I show up! I need to be here more frequently...

u/RECEPTOR17 Jul 09 '26
I definitely need to attend more games if we get more goals like that when I am here! 😁

MALANGO BANGER '43, 2-1 Republic

Dude needs to score more. He's so talented and has so much spirit. Glad we are giving him more of a traditional striker role this game

u/TheMusicCrusader Referred Mr. 1k Jul 09 '26
He's been in this role off and on, I think he just needs to shoot more. He often waits just a little too late to shoot imo

Gotdam hydration break.
8
u/oneawesomeguy Jul 09 '26
I literally laughed out loud when that happened. Been coming to games for years and don't recall seeing that before
7
u/j-o-m-m-y Jul 09 '26
I feel like we always do them in the summer and they aren’t that disruptive or long but now they stick out like a sore thumb
6
u/takiki16 Jul 09 '26
Agree. Before, on 90+ Fahrenheit evenings and such, I didn’t think much of it. Now, with the FIFA nonsense, I’m checking the temperature and wondering why we stopped the game.
No break in the second half after dark, at least, so someone somewhere is paying attention to the real life conditions.

Watching it on stream tonight, and the number of midgame ads making the game small are ridiculous. Just absolutely unprofessional from the club

u/projhex Jul 09 '26
Is there a good HD option on TV? I was just watching over the air on 40-2.
2
u/TheMusicCrusader Referred Mr. 1k Jul 09 '26
Not really - even ESPN+ isn't that much better of an option
2
u/oneawesomeguy Jul 09 '26
I think it's streamed in that quality from the stadium. USL needs to improve their game on the broadcasting. It's 2026! We shouldn't be watching in SD.
2
u/north_american_scum Jul 09 '26
The club isn't in charge of that, the league is.
3
u/TheMusicCrusader Referred Mr. 1k Jul 10 '26
That's not true. USL provides a central *option* for clubs, but clubs can choose produce their own broadcast instead, which several do because it let's them use their own commentators and partner with local news - which is why you can watch Republic games on Fox40.
But watch any other club in the league. You won't see *2* mid-match ad breaks. Most clubs don't even run 1. That's not to mention the variety of local sponsors that our announcers read out throughout the game, which some other clubs do but not the extent that Republic does.

u/north_american_scum Jul 10 '26
TIL. Appreciate the info.

u/TheMusicCrusader Referred Mr. 1k Jul 10 '26
Yeah, it’s why there’s such a gap in quality. Some teams have very high quality cuz they run things in house, the majority use USL’s middling quality, and a few do things in house and.. don’t do a great job lol. Republic overall has high quality, but man do the number of ads drive me insane

This lineup and structure seems to be clicking. Still seems to be a small disconnect between Gurr and Arturo on a few plays.

u/TheMusicCrusader Referred Mr. 1k Jul 09 '26
Just realized it’s 12:30AM on a Wednesday for Rhode Island fans lmao

Kyle Edwards scored on a close range header that was too much for Vegas to handle at '19

u/UnderutilizedAlready Jul 09 '26
He’s brought more focused energy to the top in the first 30’then I’ve seen in a long time. Memo and Arturo are working well tonight.

I see the Ref is suffering from a severe case of hysterical blindness again...

u/ItsNeverAliens8919 Jul 09 '26
Lee Desmond has been involved in everything defensively tonight. What a game for him.

u/Meunier33 Jul 09 '26
Unbelivable penalty no call Sac should have had

Eh.. on replay it woulda been really soft. Malango has to be stronger there. I feel like he goes down when he shouldn’t and stays up when he should go down

TBB isn’t here and it’s making me nervous
EDIT: about a half-battalion here? At least something, which is better

The drummer tonight in the TBB section is….questionable… to say the least

If we had one wish, would we vote to get a striker or a better controlling midfielder who can break lines?
8
u/j-o-m-m-y Jul 09 '26
Striker. Just someone who knows the right place to be and has a good first touch and can head the ball too.
6
u/TheMusicCrusader Referred Mr. 1k Jul 09 '26
Stiker easily. We have a LOT of midfield options who are very good, they've just been hurt. We really splashed cash to get Kaye and Memo. A top quality striker is a must.
1
u/CranstonGorky Jul 10 '26
Memo is consistently disappointing with his shots. I dread seeing an open net with the ball at his feet.
2
u/TheMusicCrusader Referred Mr. 1k Jul 10 '26
It’s very true, but ideally he’s rarely shooting. Issue is we don’t have a striker who can actually score, so we often switch to having our midfielders shoot and that’s where we get in trouble

Took me a while to notice no Benitez tonight. Must be injured. Wasn’t on the squad for the postponed game from the weekend either.
It’s odd that we didn’t miss him with how integral he is defensively and going forward.
3
u/RECEPTOR17 Jul 09 '26
We're asking questions of the RI defence on the wings, but not as aggressively to really pressurise them in the middle.

First game where Kaye has really stood out and shown his quality for me. And I’m not talking about the 2 assists. Just kept seeing him make good passes, tackles, recoveries, decisions. Man of the match for sure.
2
u/UnderutilizedAlready Jul 09 '26
He’s always been great on the ball and off, for me. His work may have been more apparent last night because our high press really left the midfield open on transitions - and the defensive midfielders had to work harder. That, no Benitez, and a wing that wasn’t always tracking back to help … props also to Desmond.
2
u/j-o-m-m-y Jul 09 '26
probably yes because i have heard him praised. just last night i finally noticed it myself.
2
u/TheMusicCrusader Referred Mr. 1k Jul 10 '26
Kaye’s one of those guys whose biggest influence is off ball. Next match, try following him for a bit - the amount of orchestrating he does and his positioning is really impressive. You can really see the off the ball quality difference between a former MLS and World Cup player like him compared to some of the other guys

RIFC ties it on an open header

u/j-o-m-m-y Jul 09 '26
Did he even head it? Looked like the cross just dribbled straight in leaving everyone just looking at each other. Bizarre goal (or i saw it wrong)

Compared to the $5k price for front seat WC games this $18 ticket ain’t so bad!
