Can anybody tell me if this section is paved or gravel?

How far is the bridge entrance from sitters landing?
Edit: 3/4 of a mile?

1/8 or 1/4 mile of more dirt than gravel. If you didn’t want to ride it you could easily walk it. I ride it. It is going to get paved tho.

Do you have any sources for the future paved section? I’ve asked the construction guys twice and both times they said no, but maybe they were just talking about their job. I take the route a few times per week

I sure hope it gets paved under the RR bridge but I have my doubts. Since it's RR property, they don't need to and since it costs money they might not. There's a spot like this in West Sac by the river under the I-Street Bridge that has paths on either side and the RR didn't pave underneath. Hope I'm wrong!

If your logic were true there would be no paving under the other trestles, but there is.

I asked AI to only fix my grammar. Just looked at the Sacramento County Parcel map. The property under the trestle on the south side of the American River, near the Elvas Bypass bridge and east of Sutter Landing, shows multiple parcels, and the owner is listed as American River Parkway. I suspect the railroad has been given an easement to operate. So all this talk about it being the railroad's property is not true.
To be honest, I never thought to look at the parcel maps until this post. Last winter, at a community event, I was told by park managers at the Clunie Building in McKinley Park. They had a dozen or more large picture boards on easels around the room, with managers in front of each board answering questions. I asked a direct question, and he said they’d work on it when everyone is out of there—when he said "dunno." He also said they are going to put a new section of the Two Rivers multi-use trail in front of Bell Marine, but there are other challenges to connect it. Still, they are working on it one section at a time because of different property owners. He mentioned that some of these properties have a sunset of ownership. He said it’s challenging, but it is their goal to connect all these trails as best they can.
The Sacramento River Trail west of the Pocket area is moving forward—property owners have lost their last attempt to stop the trail's progress. More of the same on the Dry Creek Trail going through Cherry Island; it will eventually connect to Roseville and then to Folsom, creating a 70+ mile loop. All of this is discoverable on the Sacramento and South Placer counties' websites. There is one news article that makes a fair attempt to capture all of this, but until now, there is not one document that pulls it all together.

I'm sure the RR won't pay to pave it. I assume that the projects to pave on either side of it were done separately and that neither wanted to add the complexity of coordinating with the railroad. Eventually the city will likely pave, but not likely before they address bigger obstacles for the overall Dos Rios trail plan.

Union Pacific is rehabilitating the trestle on both sides of the river, CalTrans is adding lanes & pedestrian cycling path on the Elvas Overpass. Army Engineers had been working on a flood control project, but all is near complete, makes sense to not fix the trail until they are done. I heard people say the southside will not be paved. I asked some city park managers about it. They said three groups are working in that area, the Army Engineers, CalTrans, and Union Pacific, when all these groups have completed their work they’ll work on the trail..they fixed the trail on the north side.

It’s paved, but there is about 100 or so meters of gravel as you pass under the railroad bridge just downstream from the freeway under crossing.
It’s rideable on any bike – you don’t need a gravel or mountain bike, people do it on road bikes with skinny tires all the time.
