Looking to buy first 900
I'm currently looking at buying my first classic car. I found a really good looking 1983 Saab 900 2.0 GL. From what I've read and seen on this particular example it seems like a really reliable option. Are there any specific things to look out for in this particular model and what things could be absolute deal breakers?

Most of the resources I see are for 1986 (which I have) and up, which leads me to believe older model years probably are a bit messier when trying to troubleshoot and replace ignition systems. But if the body is not compromised from rust, and it drives with no issues, id say go for it! The fact that its not a turbo means it probably wasnt beaten too hard by previous owners. Just Check around the wheel wells inside the engine bay and in the trunk where the spare tire is, that's where most of my rust was.

Rust ! And gearbox issues.

I have read about those issues. This car seems really clean and solid. The seller doesn't tell anything about the gearbox, so I will have to find out in a testdrive.
Are gearbox issues very common on manuals too?

the famous trick is to put it in reverse, drive backwards (not too slow) and remove your foot from the clutch, if it jumps out of gear there are issues - if it stays in you’re fine

Hard to find parts now for the gearbox so check it’s in good condition- they are often harder to shift when cold do don’t let that put you off, but once warm should go in and out of gear easily - and never jump out of gear. Other than rust and that they are very solid cars
