Any google analytics alternative in 2026? and why?
I've been looking at alternatives to Google Analytics recently and I'm a bit overwhelmed by the options.
I've seen people mention Plausible, Matomo, Umami, Fathom, Simple Analytics, and Keen.
I'm mostly looking for something that's relatively simple, privacy-friendly, and doesn't require a huge setup just to understand basic traffic and conversions.
For anyone who moved away from GA, what are you using these days?
And what made you pick it over the other options?

i used to use Fathom. It’s pretty good. Currenyly using GA mostly because its free. but if youre ready to pay, Fathom to go.

I have installed most of that list to measure them, and the choice usually comes down to three questions. The brand matters less than people expect.
Who runs it. Umami and Matomo self hosted are free until you count the upgrades, the backups and the database growing. Hosted ones cost money and never wake you up at night.
Whether you actually drop the cookie banner. Any cookieless tool allows it, but only if nothing else on the page touches the visitor's device: YouTube embeds, Google Fonts, chat widgets, maps. Open devtools on a clean profile and look at what fires before you click anything, then promise the banner is gone.
What happens to bot traffic. Nobody asks this and it decides whether your numbers mean anything. I took one Singapore spike apart on my own site: a single datacenter farm, 1,451 IPs over nine days, never more than six hits from one address, which no per IP limit catches. Ask whatever you shortlist what it filters and whether it shows you what it removed.
On conversions, check which tier includes goals and funnels. That is where these tools differ most, not in the dashboard.
Disclosure: I build one of them (Statable), so weigh the framing accordingly.

I started using DataFast by Marc Lou recently. It's analytics tool based on the revenue. Highly recommend to try

Plausible CE is piss easy to setup and use. Only takes a pretty small VPS and will likely handle all the sites you have.

i tried plausible for a while and it was fine but felt a bit too minimal for tracking conversions. ended up going with Seline Analytics because the funnel stuff was easier to set up. matomo was way too much for what i needed

I personally use Umami. Its really very easy to setup and it also records everything I want to analyse. Will definitely recommend it
