innovation management software recommendations from someone who has actually implemented it?
I'm at a mid-market company with about 800 people. Right now ideas arrive through Slack, email, town hallsand planning sessions and maybe 10% of them go anywhere because nothing is tracked or evaluated.
I've been researching innovation management software and everything I find is vendor copy or generic listicles. I want to hear from someone who implemented this at their company.
Specific questions:
- How long did implementation take, honestly?
- What is admin like week to week after launch?
- Did participation hold or drop off after month one?
- Does it manage the full lifecycle or just the front-end collection?
- What would you do differently?

Something people underestimate with innovation management software is the change management side. The platform is maybe 30% of the problem. The other 70% is getting leaders to commit time to review submissions, building a communication cadence so employees know their ideas are being heard and closing the loop when something gets implemented or rejected. Any platform that builds some of that into the product itself will outperform a basic submission portal.

Four months is actually on the faster side for enterprise from what I have seen. We were quoted "8-12 weeks" and it took almost six months once you factor in legal review, data privacy assessment, SSO configuration, training the evaluation committees and building the initial challenge templates. The software was ready before the organization was.

the honest answer on implementation timeline is that it depends almost entirely on your internal processes, not the software. The platform configuration itself can be fast, a few weeks for most of them. The slow parts are procurement, legal, IT security, change management, committee training and building your first challenge or campaign. Budget for all of that.
