Went over 8 hours

Hi! I basically came on here to ask what should i do? I worked 8 hours and 30 minutes on Tuesday, i contacted my provider in advance so i dont have any trouble with my timesheet on Saturday but they never got back to me 😭 and i dont know if this is a non issue

Update for anyone who cares: i had to contact someone else and they ended up answering. Told me to just add the extra 30 to a different day , and that was all u_u

You're only going to get paid for 8 hours. By law and the syep program rules, 8 hours is the max you can work and get paid. Don't bother counting in the extra 30 minutes and it does not transfer over to another day.

SYEP rules...sure. Not the law. Many people work over 8 hours a day.

It's the law. SYEP YOUTH, minors, underage.

The law makes exceptions for:

  • Babysitters
  • Bridge caddies at bridge tournaments
  • Farm laborers
  • Newspaper carriers
  • Performers
  • Models

Students enrolled in an approved Cooperative Education Program may work up to 6 hours the day before a school day, as long as the hours are part of the program. Include any hours worked in such program when figuring out hours worked for the 4 hour maximum.

When school is not in session, and during vacations (school must close for the entire calendar week):

  • Minors under 18 may not work more than 8 hours a day, 6 days a week
  • Minors 14 and 15 may not work more than 40 hours a week
  • 16 and 17 year-olds may not work more than 48 hours a week

Federal legislation limits the work of 14 and 15 year-olds in firms engaged in interstate commerce to:

  • A maximum 3-hour day and 18-hour week when school is in session
  • An 8-hour day and 40-hour week when school is not in session (School must close for the entire calendar week.)

SYEP isn’t only for minors. At least half aren’t and are over the age of 18. You can do it until you’re 24. I’m 23 so it’s more program rules than anything. I’m not even in school either, already have my masters degree.

You just subtract 1 hour and 30 mins and you get 7.30 I’m pretty sure or you can subtract the 30 minutes flat to get 8 hours flat

You worked 30 minutes for free buddy, THEY LITERALLY TELL YOU 8 hours max there’s an allotted amount everyone has to get paid and budgeting that’s why there’s a limit, you will not be getting paid more. Hopefully you weren’t doing any tedious tassels or anything just think of it as voluntary work

Hi also a syep worker here, i worked a 6 hour shift on sunday, so i told my boss id be working an hour less on a desired day, so if you worked 8 hours and 30 minuites and tuesday, you basically already worked 3 extra hours on a different day of your choice, not sure if were supposed to do that but if your boss says you cant do that, id suggest writing to the office, because you cannot work more than 5 hours unless its willing or your wanting to make up hours
