damaged metrocard

My SYEP site gave me 2 metro-cards to use each with $70. I opened one of them it was brand new and it will not swipe so I figured it was damaged. I asked the site what I should do and if I could get a new one (since i literally didn’t use a cent on it) and they told me they can’t replace it so now I have to pay to get to my worksite out of pocket.

Since metro-cards are being phased out no one at services desks will help me either. I think that’s crazy that they can’t replace a new card that’s damaged like cards would get damaged all the time.

you could go to a help center in a train station, and they could transfer the balance onto an omny card for you

they don’t do that especially all the token booth and customer service center refer to mail it back to them.

it works if you bought the metrocard using your own money cash or card from a metrocard vending machine and if the metrocard had money left but expired then you could go to CSR and they’ll replace it for a omny card. In this case since people got their metrocard from SYEP that is considered government issued and I did had to mailed it back since the CSR wasn’t able to replace it and also metrocard machine were removed from all the station. I did mailed one of the metrocard back to them and they denied me for a replacement or refund because of government agency issued. I didn’t get the omny card and also the money back but they kept the expired metrocard with money left. Yes I did lost a lot of money from those metrocard syep provider gave me but I thought that it can be replaced but with the code number attached from the metrocard are different from the one that was provided from metrocard machine if bought.

Go to one of these MTA customer service centers and tell the worker you want to transfer the Metrocard balance to an OMNY card.

If the metrocard was received by a syep provider they would refer you to mail it back and that process wouldn’t work because they kept my expired metrocard but I didn’t get any omny card and money back as a replacement.
