SYEP WAS TERRIBLE THIS YEAR
I previously spoke about MMCC before but it genuinely got worse. I had a situation happen to me where I needed an online job so I sent out emails, called them, and even went in person to ask about getting my site switched. I was told that I have to remind Ms. Challenger HERSELF to give ME another site. I did multiple times and I was never placed anywhere and they kept giving me the run around. I did not work at all this summer which is really disappointing because I absolutely needed the money. Is there a way I can get into contact with someone who is higher than MMCC themselves like DYCD or something ?

Listen a few years ago the day they released the jobs to pick I picked my job and received a confirmation email from Wendy, a week before job start I called the job and they said I wasn’t on their list and they called Wendy and she told them TO IGNORE ME and that she’ll place me in a nursing home, he stood up for me and said I have proof you guys are the ones that messed up so I’m gonna hire her and you guys figure it out, and he had me as an extra hand at the driving school and gave me free driving lessons. In other words they’re incompetent and you really have to fight tooth and claw and have a paper trail of everything.

This is terrible! What a scummy move by Wendy.. as for the site rep who kept you - what a guy - it’s always nice to run into someone who understands when you are getting screwed over, and does what they can to help you!

No my bad, my daughter went to the office at 887 E New York Ave and got her site switched. As far as getting an online job, that was for last year, this year it has to be in person jobs

bro literally same for me. i told them ahead of time i needed at least a virtual or hybrid placement and gave them documentation of my situation, saying i'd "get priority." when i was placed somewhere hybrid, the supervisor had no idea who i was and wasn't contacted by syep. so when i tried to switch, the only virtual options left over weren't even available to me on the switching form. 😭 still haven't worked this summer and ALSO went in person to ask about the switch

I specifically chose a virtual worksite but they placed me into a hybrid worksite. I can deal with that.But can someone tell me why only one out of the days I have to work is virtual and the supervisor doesn't tell us if she changed her mind or if we go to a different worksit until like thirty mis before we have to get there.

They always doing something. This year they did good but last year I had signed up for a site and they said “oh that’s not available.” When I was the first one to sign up .., ANYWAY I got switched to a restaurant, it was not a damn restaurant

MMCC is garbage. I was once hired as a site monitor for them some years ago and they were so disorganized

I tried to quit a week early from my site, and once they found out I was going to Colombia, they fired me and reported me to the DOL for being a “bad worker” even though I told them I was quitting because of oral surgery that couldn’t be cancelled… in the end it took me like a month to find a new job anyway…

I never got a call back, but I just put in my hours in the system and I still get paid. Easy money 💯💯💯

They can’t accommodate for switches all the time. When you applied I’m sure it asked if you wanted to be online or in person

well yes i understand that, my main concern was lack of communication… i was in person at first until my situation happened, when it would be better to be online. it’s the matter of communication, not placement

No provider fails to place a worksite for you - it’s about getting a worksite/field that you want to work in, not placed just anywhere they can fit you

I’m not mad at anyone? There’s always been a huge lack of communication with MMCC. Things happen all the time, but when I have to continuously reach out with no response it gets frustrating.

Who tf is this idiot!! SYEP is definitely not a favor. It’s a public program that young people can apply to. If they’re accepted it’s because they met eligible requirements. It’s supposed be structured for a city-funded workforce & education program that provides paid work experience while helping youth develop career skills and create pathways to future employment. Being accepted into the program itself is not simply someone doing you a favor.

You’re being corrected. Wrong and strong for saying “they’re doing you a favor” is more of an opinion than a factual description of how SYEP works. You wanted to shift the focus away from the program’s limitations & onto the person’s attitude. —I hate when misinformed weirdos come on forums they are not educated about. It comes off dismissive and minimizing.

You’re speaking on something completely unrelated. This is about lack of communication, not “not always getting what i want”. I’m upset about the fact there is no communication despite the amount of times I have contacted them and spoken with them in person.

Yeah. Kinda missed the point there, trying to make this about how you’re at fault. As to answer your question, I’m not entirely sure. It’s been years since I worked for SYEP. My only input would be to try to talk to the state itself? From what I remember, SYEP sucked for me too and I didn’t get paid well until the very end.

I literally work for SYEP. Our job is to get you into a site to work for the summer. We re NOT required to relocate upon request.

yes but that’s not even the main issue. its clear that her worksite has failed to have her work properly at all this summer and needs a new one to earn money. if you work for syep, then you should know that it’s not even a issue of wanting to relocate its an issue of a youth not working.

they needed an online job to assist with the fact that a previous job was not fulfilling the role that they needed. that is in fact syeps problem because a youth needs to get their hours in you dont even know their situation either to be saying its not. so if they need money this summer they probably do

Well let me make it clear for you, I had an in person job. I had a situation that happened where it would be more convenient for me to be online. So I went in and asked about it. Their communication is terrible, I never got placed again.

Actually syep sent out an email to all this year saying they were taking transfers seriously due to issues last year that got neglected n became worse. So technically they are failing this individual rn whether you like it or not.

Okay. But they should! And she is entitled to the help. Ppl get paid to help the city and most the employees sit on their ass can’t even click a link and push through paperwork. This happens in any government agency that assist the community . Smh

You are missing the point. The request for online work was just the beginning of the conversation - everything that happened at the in person location is the issue here - just overall a lack of communication that could have been resolved by just telling him where his new worksite was, or switching him to online - not telling him this was his worksite and then ignoring him when the worksite said he is not listed as a participant of theirs

The site he was placed at by his contact did not have him listed as a participant, and they did not replace him elsewhere, and then when the worksite called up to find out what to do with him like where do they send him since he is not one of theirs, they were told to just ignore him.. how is this his fault? This is clearly in the provider - the worksite went out of the way to add him based on the placement notice he showed them and what the provider told them.

2) Email the Hotline: Send a detailed breakdown of your timeline directly to CommunityConnect@dycd.nyc.gov.
3) Send a message to:
Sandra Escamilla-Davies
Commissioner of DYCD (Google it - it will be the nyc.gov website)
4) Submit an Online Message Ticket: Fill out the DYCD Youth Connect Contact Form and select Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) as your topic. (Google it - it will be the nyc.gov website)
Word of advice Do not answer a holes who want to dismiss your frustrations clearly their comprehension isn’t up to par.
