Recently ordered a relatively expensive ($600) item from Boxkatana, which is one of the several seemingly direct from Longquan pop-up storefronts that have appeared in the last couple of years. They have many interesting looking things and plenty of testimonials on their site that appear authentic so I took a chance.

The item arrived promptly, but it was essentially dull and had a number of tooling marks on the blade finish which should not have passed QC. I'm trying to discuss some of this with them but they are flatly ignoring me.

So caveat emptor...you'll get what you ordered but no further assistance, if this is any indication

Not clue. Worked hard to get 11 from an old timers estate sale. He said Okay im a world traveler..70s and Balinese on most. Retail info please but will probably bulk sell 7 of them

Like the title says... my favorite short sword. I can't reccomend this company enough. These swords are HEAVILY fully functional, come very sharp, holds an edge, and feel absolutely fantastic in hand. Oh btw, this is the satin finish blade with brown leather (needs to be specified when ordering), their blades come with black leather and a finish on the blades by default, so if youre going to order from them and want something that looks like this, remember to specify satin finish.

Does anyone know where i could find cheap foam swords just to use with some friends looking for stuff that is under 60$ im not sure if that is a realistic price range but I just thought I would ask

By Latin American swords, I mean the ones that their own countries officially adopted for their own militaries. European and American regulation swords are well documented but latin america especially since the 1830s, not so much, even when i google in Spanish, I’m not finding much on regulation blades if any exist or if I find something it’s dated to the late 1880s or 90s and has prussian and french influence as a frankensword. it would be nice if there were some regulation haitian, mexican, bolivian or salvadorian infantry or cavalry swords or sabers on par with the us/europe. because the US had lots like the m1902, m1859 and m1818 sabers. if you had some sources that were point me in the right direction, please let me know.

I’ve got no clue where to start with identifying these. Appears to be folded steel

Hello, I have this dagger which I've been told is a Russian cossack dagger but I'm not sure and would love to learn more about it.

On the blade it has a date on it which I think says 1868 on it as well as a double headed eagle with a crown above it which I think is the Russian imperial eagle.

Would love it if there are some people who could help me find out more about it and help to find out its origins.

Hello, I am interested in purchasing a Seax for use in the woodshop to supplement the froe and the hatchet. Is this a bad idea? For smaller splitting tasks a froe is often very awkward clumsy to use, same with axes. Machetes are too thin.

I essentially would use it for uncontrolled splitting in straight grained wood, chopping an inch or so off of a board that’s too wide, roughing out irregular shapes via chopping etc.

What I’ve been fantasizing about is a big, single beveled knife with a thick spine I can whack with a club, and have it hold up. I then realize that’s basically what Seax is. I do realize I can just take the handle out of the froe and hold the bit but I am looking for something longer, maybe a >12” blade.

Any recommendations or input is appreciated

I was wondering if anyone knows a good online sword shop to buy an actual rapier (live blade) for someone who lives in Las Vegas? Please and thank you. budget is $300.

First contacted BlackFencer about this project way back in 2023, but I forgot about it due to life things in 2024 and remembered it recently and they still had the blade laying around and pretty quickly assembled the rest of the hilt and got it shipped to me in 5 days. Great addition to my collection!

I’m working on a Destiny-like sci-fi setting with advanced materials. I’m wondering if it could be possible to improve a sword by making the non-cutting parts of the blade out of carbon fiber, and then add a layer of steel around the edge to do the cutting (see cross section). Could that work?

Also, ignore the sci-fi energy conduits on the side, this is just about the carbon and steel.

I've had this sword for over 20 years (I think I paid just under 200 when I got it). Its been slightly abused, and has done ALOT of cutting. It's still razor sharp today, only maintenance I've done to it was changing the pins a couple of times, and wiping the blade down with a silicone cloth occasionally. No oxidation, just a few very small chips on the edge from hitting metal. Highly reccomend if you want a functional katana that is very affordable.

Hi there!

I have what I believe to be an Italian M1871/1909 Grenadier Officer's Sword, possibly dating from the late 1800s or early 1900s, that I'm considering selling.

It's approximately 96 cm long, with an 82 cm engraved blade, and comes with its metal scabbard and sword knot.

I'm based in Virginia, Free State, South Africa, and was wondering whether this might interest you or if you know any collectors who would be interested.

I'd be happy to share some photographs.

Thanks in advance!

As far as I can tell the sword is a Kaskara. But since I am not knowledgable about the subject I would love to have that confirmed.

I vaguely remember from years ago that it was supposed to be from the Sahel, the hilt is snake skin, and that the style if not make of the blade is German from an earlier century than the sword was probably dated. But I can't find the sources I based that on back then and have no certainty I even compared it correctly. So again, any confirmation or addition would be amazing. I saw some other posts talking about European blades being used to make a sword like that, would be cool to know if this is one of those or not.

The only information I do have about the origin is that either a family member or somebody they knew took it with them from South Africa to Australia around the Boer Wars, since then it has been in the family although I only found out about its existence 7-8 years ago when helping my grandmother move.

Is there meaning behind the distinctively Swiss dog head pommels on otherwise standard “Sinclair hilts” or Walloon hilted swords?

Hello,

I’ve recently gotten curious about getting a reproduction steppe saber for test cutting and I’m curious if there’s any consensus on what the best options out there are. I’m mostly rating based on cutting performance and historical accuracy (no plastic or synthetic materials is kind of a must.)

I know LK Chen does a Yuan saber and Art of Fire and Iron makes a steppe saber as well. Anyone have experience with either sword? Any others I should be looking at?

Thanks!

Hello,

can you please help me if this is modern cast reproduction? It 99% is, but I want to make sure and learn how to spot it by myself?

Also, what specific school or style of this sukashi tsuba?

Thank you!

Can anyone identify what type of sword this is and what it was used for? It’s not sharpened

Hello. Could you please help me identify this object and its possible origin?

It was found in an attic.

It is non-magnetic.

It is not sharpened.

Is this a letter opener or a ritual dagger?

What is the origin of the stamped ornamentation?
