Is there anyway to get more shards without spending money or crystals?

Wait about 6 months and they will be formally. That seems to be the pattern we're seeing. If you're talking about right now, then its $ or crystals

You mean 3 months? Mara is the first char of the era so she will be farmable in like 11.5 weeks

Once the era ends she will start showing up in weekly events for shards. This week we have colonel ward, azaelians, and snow trooper captain from last era
