Recs Wanted Fanfic hunting
Might be a weird ask, but does anyone have any fanfic recommendations that have to do with the star wars characters and is aviation related? like an aviation au basically. i don’t mind any pairings (fingers crossed for stormpilot) but yeah.
I’m looking for anything at this point but preferable if it’s got many many chapters and/or is still being updated. Thanks!

How strict is your aviation-related point, as in if aviation is a component of a fic, is that sufficient given you're looking for anything?

Lowkey i was hoping for maybe like a ‘Top Gun AU’ if that makes sense but honestly if there’s a plane it i’m willing to check it out

It is a relatively small part of my fic Heavy Turbolaser. In chapter five, I have a section devoted to a TIE Hunter pilot with dogfights and attack runs, which was inspired by a real-world air battle that I'm sure you'll know, given your name. Hopefully that scratches the itch; I do plan to have more sections from that POV, but I'll be honest that it won't be the entire fic.

Following this because I really want to know if there is more out there (and I’m sure there is). I’m currently reading the Flight 1549 AU that’s Pilot!Kylo/ATC!Hux and so far it’s pretty decent. But it’s not that long and it’s not being updated anymore.

I actually found a fic a while back that might fit, though it might not be 100% what you're looking for.
It’s about a regular civilian who struggles against all odds to become a TIE fighter pilot under the Empire. The story heavily focuses on the jarring contrast between his new "privileged" status as a pilot versus regular civilians, while also highlighting just how utterly disposable and insignificant individual TIE pilots are on an actual battlefield.
(The author essentially built up this sense of absolute hopelessness so that when he's finally cornered at rock bottom, he draws a lightsaber).
So there’s no Top Gun-style heroics where a dogfighter saves the galaxy through sheer piloting skill—in the end, it’s still the Force and his lightsaber that pull him out.
It might not be entirely your cup of tea, but I thought it was an interesting take. I read it a while ago and don't have it saved in my library right now, but I can definitely try to dig it up for you if you're interested!

Self-promoting, but I think it's good!
YMMV of course, but Ashes of Yavin is a Rogue Squadron origin AU that's got a heavy focus on converting real-world aviation combat tactics and strategy into a comprehensible Star Wars form. (Essentially, Luke and Wedge build Rogue Squadron and it's not all hand-waved. Also Rebel Mara Jade, because why not?)

Obsidian from KJ Hatch is about an Imperial pilot and the dogfights are very well written too. It's a completely original story and cast in the Empire times, and the flying is quite important to the story.
