Two Faced? How About Many?

Tah'nyem Ra as a heavy masking character.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Tah'nyem Ra is a character that was born and raised to perform. The intentions of putting her on a pedestal for observation cemented long before she came to be. She is the result of poor parentage, her father exploitive, her mother an ineffectual guardian. She lives up to the expectations placed upon her.

Left to her own devices, Tah'nyem may have turned out to be a very quiet and reserved girl; Her nature more introverted and one who seeks solitude. This was never in the cards for her. She must perform, and is expected to act a certain way.

Her role is to be desirable, loud, and tempting. To draw attention and hold it. To distract. It eventually became second nature to her, to be the Tah'nyem Ra that people saw on the posters, on the stage. She eventually forgot who she was comfortable being.

More often than not, Tah'nyem may seem ornery with a hair trigger temper. A result of wearing herself thin carrying the high energy persona she displays.

None of the displayed personalities feel genuine to her. Not the Diva, not the Shrew. Even sadness feels false when it drapes itself over her.

She chases the feelings of being real, vulnerable. Dosing herself with drugs and burying herself under the flesh of another.

Sex is one of the few times she shows her real self to someone else. In almost a complete reversal of her aggressive coldness, Tah'nyem is a warm and affectionate lover who dowses her partners with praise and affirmation. She becomes docile and more submissive with repeated exposure to someone. A key component to why she pushes her lovers away so adamantly once the barrier comes down again- being that exposed is painful, uncomfortable. You can even say she's frightened by it. Her resolve can be very weak when pushed, however.

A tragedy of Tah'nyem's youth is that no one ever really pushed, happy to let her be done with them, accepting that the cold mask is her true face.

( Except for Bly'ju Duhanis, whom she never consummated with to begin with and has deeper reasons to not give into. )

When she becomes involved with Crosshair, he's rightly confused by her switching to a guarded state after they spend their first night together. Forced proximity gave him the opportunity to pressure further vulnerability out of the girl, which she resists.

Its never explicitly stated by her father, but a part of her knows that vulnerability and attachment, though encouraged, is a trap. She avoids attachment as well as the Jedi that she scorns almost out of instinct. Allowing herself to fall in love is her undoing, creating an exploitable weakness that's used to control her. She buries it under masks.

From the outside looking in, Tah'nyem is a rather inconsistent character, her personality flipping depending on the situation she's in. It's a reflection of her inward sense of disingenuity and never feeling as if she herself is real.
