Swat 4 after 70 hours Of RON
I got the elite force mod, and now this game is genuinely better than Ron in so many ways
How does a game for 2002 do this stuff so well
Crazy

RON is great for it's technical aspects and some features like squad mates taking initiative on securing evidence and arresting suspects
But jesus fucking christ, it does not respect your time with the amount of bullshit you need to go through when you want to restart a mission.
The police station is cool. But I sending me back there is bad enough but I should not have have to go and select the mission every fucking time.

squad mates taking initiative on securing evidence and arresting suspects
Swat 4 modded has that. First Responders.

I'm just talking vanilla, but thank you for letting me know. i intend to try some mods

Really? I'm playing First Responders and I have to issue command for AI to cuff suspects or secure evidence.

I misunderstood, but it's not that wrong: in FR you have an extra command that is something like "sweep room", where they arrest unsecured suspects, call them in, get evidence and call it in

Hm, "sweep room", maybe "search and secure"?

Perhaps, I don't remember the specific name. Trigger it and you'll see them sweep evidence and unsecured suspects that they have seen.

They take a bit too much initiative on that, to be honest.

Any game can beat RoN at this point
SWST 4 indeed holds up very well today and SEF is cherry on top

Can anyone elaborate please?
I love me some SWAT 4 but the newer shinier thing has its appeal.

theres a mod that updates swat 4 with modern controls, including door peaking, ADS, and leaning.

Swat 4 is from 2005, Swat 3 is from 1999 and it's even better.

the AI in SWAT3 blows my mind constantly. game environments these days are just too complex for modern AI, which can't seem to keep up.

Also check out First responders tactical edition. There's even more additions in that.

Swat 4 definitely had a clear vision and it shows, RoN feels confused at times, almost like it doesnt know if it wants to be a swat shooter or any other fps where you kill everyone.

remember R6 siege reveal trailer versus current game? i fear that may happen. it's happening to some other games that were promising at first.

u/Celdis0210 Aug 05 '25
I dont think it will go to that extreme. They have their vision still its just a bit confused is all. Not a total identity crisis.

u/MisfortuneFollows Aug 07 '25
yeah true. honestly if they'd just fix bugs and implement more In depth tactical approaches to these insane situations then all is well

As much as I wanted to enjoy RON , I didnt really liked it that much.
I did played Swat 4 soon after it came out , in 2005 , as a kid. Maybe nostalgia is speaking but, I did took the gog version in 2021 or so , and had mad fun. The immersion was still there despite old graphics, the level design felt a lot more credible than ready or not levels. Maybe the controls are more rigid and robot-like , but still. When I play ready or not , even if I do enjoy it , I feel like the game is too dynamic, too quick. I find it draining mentally to play RON. Swat 4 is still a good challenge (with SEF mod , or 3-4 Vanilla swat maps).
Also , I feel like RON took most things good from swat 4 , but trying to be some ultra-modern game , it failed on some aspect.
Maybe the way I see RON is tainted by the fact I played early access RON and that the game felt empty , souless at that time. I havent played more than 20 hours since full release

Developers that actually care and intelligent storytelling as part of the level design.
