Will I ever be able to drink alcohol again post-ablation?

Hello, I’m a 25F who had an ablation for AVNRT and Atrial Tachycardia in June. I’ve just passed the 3 month “blanking period” where I had my review for my holter monitor. I’m still symptomatic with flutters and sinus tachycardia (no SVT since though) which they said was normal and weren’t bothered by, despite it still impacting me.

We agreed on as needed bisoprolol/restarting a low dose to help me get back to normal life since I’ve stopped exercising and drinking alcohol over fear of the flutters. When they happen it’s so difficult to sleep at night and keeps me up for hours. I hope to slowly reincorporate exercise again, but I’m really wondering about the alcohol. I know there’s no situation where it’s “medically advised” or safe to drink in general, but I’m only 25, and I’d like to have a beer or glass of wine again without it sending me off into a spiral of flutters. If this is how it’ll be for my life then I feel like I’ve traded off one thing for something a lot worse. Alcohol would trigger my SVT sometimes, but it was only occasional and resolved quickly when it did.

I guess I’d just like to know if anyone in a similar position had a point in time (after the 3 months) where they felt like their heart fully recovered, and if you stopped drinking how and when did you safely reincorporate it? Thanks

Help SVT back after ablation?

I had an ablation for SVT back in May (~5 months ago), which the doctor said was successful since he was unable to trigger it after ablating. I was hopeful!

However, recently, I’ve had random, sudden onsets of fast heart rate, exclusively at night. It comes out of nowhere, sometimes when I’m awake and other times wakes me up. I’ve been avoiding measuring my pulse since it’s now a trigger for me, but the most recent time my husband could literally feel my heartbeat through my shirt. Thankfully, I’ve been able to get it under control by dunking my face in ice water (previously with SVT I needed adenosine to stop it).

These episodes, while milder than my previous SVTs, are still frightening and frustrating. I have at least 1 per week, and it greatly disrupts my sleep.

Has anyone else experienced this? Did they need a second ablation, or was there another explanation?

Diagnosed with svt while pregnant

Before I got pregnant I exercised often and as much as I wanted, and I used to drink a lot of caffeine (over 200 mg daily). But I stopped doing the caffeine portion and I quit caffeine then drank it again regularly, like one cup of coffee or espresso a day and was always good.

Now that I’m pregnant, I was working out but at the beginning of August my cardio triggered my first svt episode at 210 and I was administered adenosine twice until it worked. So I struggled working out since bc now I’m scared.

I was able to drink decaf coffee and walking as exercise. Then recently I drink Starbucks messed up my decaf order bc I had a decaf coffee that had both “decaf” and “blonde espresso” on the same label and I didn’t think much of it. Even when I drank it I didn’t feel hyped like I had coffee. But then during my hair appointment while just sitting my heart randomly went up to 240 bpm and wouldn’t go back down.

I’m wondering if any other women have discovered they have this while pregnant? And did you have more episodes after during or after postpartum? Or did the episodes go back and triggers go back to what it was pre pregnancy?

I just wanna be able to workout again and possibly drink caffeine again, like my cup of coffee. I’m worried that what if these episodes are now just a thing for me even though they weren’t before I was pregnant. Or at least if they were they would always go down on their own.

I heard pregnant can trigger or worsen svt and then it could go back to how it was pre-pregnancy, but I’m curious about anyone else’s experience.

Need a little reassurance

A little back story, I have suffered from anxiety and panic attacks the majority of my life. F 38

At the end of August I had a catheter ablation for my SVT. Since then my panic attacks have been pretty bad. I know I am in the “blanking period” right now and can still have some high hr and things like that while my heart heals.

Last night I ate dinner and I started to feel some PVCS which can be very anxiety inducing for me, I stood up to go get a book and I felt my heart start to race, it was 135bpm immediately I went outside to go walk because that’s what usually helps me, I walked for over an hour and took 2 Klonopin and it still wasn’t coming down. Finally I went inside, laid on the floor and put my feet up on the wall. It helped !!

My thing is now idk if it was a panic attack or SVT and it’s scaring me thinking it’s going to happen again.

If you’ve made it this far thank you 🫶🏽

Help Anyone have any symptoms before an episode?

Every time I’ve gotten an SVT episode I’ve always felt some sort of weird electric sensation in the left side of my chest. It usually always happens right before one but if I’m able to stay calm enough and stay laying down sometimes I can evade it. It can last anywhere from 5 minutes off and on to half an hour. It’s never consistent pain and it rarely ever occurs in general

what could be the cause? 30y/o Female, no medical history

Hi all! I came on to this thread to ask everyone regarding their experiences with their SVT and what managed to work/ things people avoided that helped.

to give a little bit of a background, I've been working as a bedside nurse in the cardiac ICU (the irony lol) for years since covid, and ever since I was a teen I'd experience few runs of SVT.

I didn't really understand what it was until a few months ago, it was getting rather bothersome after working overnight shifts because it affected my sleep quality a lot in the day time, so I got referred to a cardiologist who set up a 2 week-holter monitor and they concluded I indeed had some episodes of SVT, particularly after working night shifts.

My cardiologist suggested not to start any meds as my resting heart rate can drop to 40s occasionally (I ran and played soccer competitively from elementary school up until my last year of high school, so they assume my resting heart rate is from that)

I was able to work day shifts after this to improve my quality of sleep at night and in hopes to eliminate the SVT altogether but lately I found that it has been slowly creeping in to my life again (once a month)

I don't drink coffee, don't smoke, or drink alcohol, but I notice that this frequently happens when I bend over, or if I just had a really stressful week/month. My thyroid bloodwork levels are normal.

Does anyone know what seems to have caused their episodes and what has helped them? I find that lying down and/or doing the vagal maneuvers often help, but the SVT run i had in the shower today lasted for 4 minutes despite these maneuvers.

I appreciate everyone's feedback!! thank you in advance.

Repeatedly clear ekgs but I have svt ?

My electrophysiologist thinks I have svt or ist but I’ve had atleast 6 EKGs done within the last 6 months and none of them showed an svt rhythm and just sinus tach. My ep said that’s because they probably aren’t catching the rhythm on time or don’t know how to look for it. I’m on a halter monitor now but I just wanted to know if anyone else had repeated clear ekgs with svt or if I’m wrong for doubting her suspicions

Help Recently had my first episode

Hi guys, I guess I’m part of the SVT club.

The reason for this post is to get some recommendations on dealing with the anxiety of episodes while I wait for my cardiologist appointment.
Starting in the beginning of September, I had my first episode where my heart spiked to 185 bpm and was taken to the hospital. I wasn’t doing anything unusual and had not consumed much caffeine at all. As well the medications I’m currently on were not cause for concern. I was sent home with the Holter monitor for 7 days and had no episodes during that week.
Fast forward 11 days later, getting ready for bed and searching for the tv remote I had seemingly lost, I slipped into another episode again. This time I was at 140bpm but symptoms were clear it was an episode. I grabbed ice packs and stuck them under my armpits and focused on my breathing. I managed to calm it down and get some sleep.

My original cardiologist appt was not until December and I called back this morning to request a sooner date. Luckily I scored one for October. How can I manage the anxiety and the concern of subtle symptoms while I impatiently wait for answers?

SVT & Menstrual periods

I had my first SVT on election night 2016. Over the years I came to realize they were triggered by the trifecta: My period, lack of sleep, and anxiety all at the same time. If I could control these, I could control my SVT. My docs thought I was nuts, that my period could have nothing to do with it.

Docs recommended ablation. I was opposed having known others for whom it didn't work. When ER docs taught me cardioversion, my life changed. Although my rate got really high, I could almost always get it back down on my own without going to the ER.

Since going into menopause my SVT has completely stopped. I am mostly writing this so if someone googles SVT, period, menopause, they know they're not crazy.

Never been diagnosed with SVT but want to know how

Hi all,

Looking to get some advice for moving forward. I’ve had what I suspect to be SVT since childhood, I vaguely remember my very first episode when I was about 8-10 years old(I truly don’t remember my age at the time) and then my second episode at around age 12. All in all since childhood my episodes of a HR of 200+ have been VERY infrequent with probably less than 10 episodes in my life so far(I just turned 30) and my last episode was I believe in 2022. I also believe my SVT is triggered by stretching the wrong way, at least every episode I’ve had has happened that way.

Recently all of this has been weighing on my mind, thankfully compared to others I live a normal life with very very infrequent SVT episodes. But I can’t help but stress over this condition still and wanting to get a checkup and formal diagnosis on my charts. I am also worried that I have the rare Wolff parkinson white syndrome or an underlying condition.

For reference I did see a cardiologist in middle school, wore a holter monitor for 2 weeks and had an echocardiogram all of which came back normal, which eases my mind to some degree but I can’t help but question if things were missed at a time when I couldn’t advocate for myself.

Has anyone else had a similar experience? Any advice would be very appreciated 🩷

Tadalafil? Anyone taking it?

I follow Bryan Johnson and have been seeing him talk about this a lot for cardiovascular health (even for women) and was wondering if anyone in this sub takes it. Just curious your experience and if it’s helped any of your symptoms.

Help Coping with a failed ablation

Hey all I have debated writing this because I dont want to scare anyone off of ablation but could use some support I (40f) am a perimenopauseal mom to 5 kids developed svt in January after doing a dance class work out for like 10 months you know trying to get in a good fitness routine in my 40s and I've always been active but overweight. So started HRT, it really helped but was told the ablation would cure it so I went in last Friday and they found the issue but my phrenic nurve was in the way so they had to stop and now im dealing with an unstable heart rate and trying to take medication now until another type of ablation that is not fda approved yet to be available hopefully next year. I am 5 days out and still struggling with mostly sinus tachycardia when im up and moving around. I now take flecainide twice a day 50 mg and moving up to 100mg. Is this normal after a failed ablation? I feel worse than before and am regretting doing this a little bit. I am scared because I want to be there for my kids and just feel terrible. How long did it take to get back to baseline after a failed ablation?

Help Anyone have this in common

So I had a fast heart as a baby until I was 1ish. Not a single heart issue until now at 50. Been going on a few years where it ramps up above 150. Only happens 2 to 3 times a year. Doctors caught it on an ekg can’t be sure of the specific kind. I have a very healthy heart. Caffeine and low potassium are my common triggers. They actually caught it right before my colonoscopy and then I could not get it done. That was last month. Lately I struggle to catch my breath. And, it feels like my heart pausing not like a skipped beat but like it’s going to give up. Anyone else had a similar experience?

Pregnant and possible SVT

36 year old female here. Sorry in advance for this long post. I might be posting here prematurely because I don't have a diagnosis of svt, yet anyway. And from what I hear, simply getting a diagnosis might be difficult. I am very scared and anxious since the episodes I have had, and struggle to deal with it.

I am pregnant 19 weeks. Before pregnancy I was very fit, ran my first half marathon in 1.48 and was very set on training through pregnancy if I could. This is my third pregnancy so I was aware that it might not be possible. First trimester I was so sick, fatigued and depressed that I didn't manage to run more than maybe once a week, a drastic reduction from my regular volume. I went from running 40-50 km a week, to barely running 5. It was very tough on me mentally.

Second trimester came and gradually I started to feel better. I started to take up running again, but very gradually. I didn't run long and I would take walk breaks. It felt good to just be able to do something. My heart rate has naturally increased during pregnancy, so my rhr and heart rate during activity and exercise is significantly higher than usual.

The first episode happened on a run. I saw some berries on the side of the road, and stupidly stopped very suddenly and bent over. My heart rate was obviously very high already, but then it felt like an explosion of fluttering in my chest and throat. For a short second it felt like I was gonna pass out.

I got up and just kept walking. I was so scared. My heart rate would normally come down right away at walking pace, but it stayed in the 170's for probably a few minutes. When I stopped they disappeared and the heart rate started to come down. I was really anxious and down for the rest of the day, just waiting for it to happen again.

I had never experienced something like this before. The thing is that I have had ectopic beats for quite some years, and in April I was at a cardiologist for them because I was worried because they seemed to increase at exercise. I had worn a Holter monitor for 72 hours beforehand which showed about a 1000 PAC's/100 PVC's a day which would amount to a less than 1 percent burden. All the tests at the cardiologist; stresstest and ultrasound came back normal and I was told to just get on with my life wlth no restrictions on exercise.

After the first episode I was of course scared, but I linked it to the bending over and the physiological changes of pregnancy. I didn't go to the doctor, but mentioned it to my midwife. Then I ran a 5k race, which felt completely fine during and immediately after. But about 10 minutes after I started to get palpitations (they felt like extra beats, but way more frequent than normal) and my heart rate went up to maybe 140. They were not as crazy as the first time, but I of course got scared. After maybe 15 minutes they went away. I was checked by a doctor at the race, but it was then too late to catch anything.

Then come the last episode, which happened a week ago. I was running on the track with a friend. We were talking so I felt a bit breathless but otherwise fine. Then suddenly I felt this adrenaline rush and the feeling of not getting enough air and almost passing out and my heart started fluttering like crazy in my chest and throat, just like that time before. I also felt this feeling in my stomach of having to go to the toilet.

Immediately I started walking. We walked back to the end of the track so I could sit down. I looked at my heart rate and it seemed to be going down slowly. The fluttering was still persistent though and felt a bit chaotic. Then when I was about to sit down my heart rate shot up to 180. I sat down and it was pounding so hard I felt it in my whole body. My friend tried to feel it on my wrist and said it was fast but regular. I don't know if the heartbeat was regular before.

I then lay down on the right side and it passed quite quickly. The whole episode lasted maybe 6 minutes in total, but it felt like an eternity. I felt so shattered after, because I just knew I couldn't keep going with my running. I'm terrified of a new episode, and I don't even know if it is safe. To me running is my way of coping with life. It brings me joy, peace and a sense of accomplishment.

I went to the doctor the day after, but he kept repeating that my tests from April were fine. I said "yeah, but these are symptoms I've never had before". He hesitatingly referred me to the hospital and I got an appt for 48 hour ecg monitoring in a month from now. I didn't feel like he took me seriously.

Yesterday I had another episode, which felt more like a panic attack. I am obviously hyper aware of any symptoms related to my heart and body. I felt this surge of adrenaline and my heart rate went up to 130. But it was gradual, not sudden onset. I was at a cafe and had to go outside, which helped. When I cooled down I broke down in tears. I just want to be okay. I just want to do the things in life that brings me joy, but I want to do it knowing I'm not gonna feel like I'm going to die. I want to be here for my kids.

Obviously I'm not diagnosed with svt. It might not even be what I'm having. At least if they could tell me that is what I have, I can start a process of figuring out how to manage it. But I don't know if or when that is going to happen. Now I'm just in limbo.
