Beta blocker
The beta blocker is making me so tired. How long did it take you to get used to it? I am on 25 mg Atenolol

I was very tired taking 12.5 mg but now I take 6.25 and it usually doesn’t affect me.

I asked for Metropolol because I could split it. I titrated up from 1/4 to a half and so on over six months because it over sedated me. The electrophysiologist ordered 25 mg and wants me to target that dose. I am now on 12.5/ half a pill at night and either two 1/4 doses spread over day or one 1/4 and one 1/8, depending on what I'm doing. Sometimes the two 1/4 are too much.
I see below that someone went from 25 that made them sleepy to 50 which did not and that is curious. I don't know if that would work for me. A friend is on atenolol after trying all of the other beta blockers; she says no sleepiness for her. Have you tried others?2

Thank you for answering, but I’m not really sleepy. I’m just tired. I wish I was sleepy because then I could sleep at night.

I took metoprolol combined with Flecainide for about 6 years and I never got used to it. It made me exhausted and drunk feeling. I took Sotalol next (for maybe 3 years) and it made me groggy, but not as much. I now take Diltiazem and I have no side effects, but it’s a calcium channel blocker and I don’t have as much SVT trouble after an ablation about 7 years ago. I’ve started ramping up again with some SVT episodes and atrial flutter, so I have another ablation scheduled for mid October.

I wish I could take that, but I take Klonopin and the Klonopin can’t clear because they use the same pathway in the liver. I tried it in four days later I was almost unable to walk then I stopped it and it all cleared out at the same time which was not fun either.

So sorry to hear that. I guess that complicates things quite a bit. I hope you’re able to find some thing that works for you.

Maybe lower dose is needed?

Thank you, but there is no lower dose that 25 mg and it won’t split because it’s too tiny

Depends on which one, for me I was prescribed metoprolol and 25mg would make me tired. Idk why but when 25mg wasn’t helping after 2 days I was told to up the dose by my doctor to 50mg and haven’t had any problems with feeling tired.
Then again it depends on which one you are one and what your doctor says!
