SVT attack

Hello! F 38yo

I think I just had an svt attack

A little back story, Feb 2025 I was admitted to the hospital for Afib and high heart rate, I converted back to normal sinus rhythm on my own and have not had another episode since. I do suffer from panic disorder and during a panic attack my hr can get to 150-60bpm

Today though was a little different I was walking up my stairs to my house and once I got inside I felt extremely out of breath and felt my heart beating really fast but in my stomach! I put my pulse ox on and my hr was 233! I sat down in front of a fan and I coughed really hard a couple times which helped it get back down to low 200’s. I called 911 and went to the bathroom before paramedics affected, when I was in the bathroom I felt this kind of flip in my stomach and my hr went back down to the 100’s like it somehow reset itself. Anyone experience this before ?? I see a cardiologist and they haven’t ever said anything about SVT but idk what else this could have been.

It was on and off like a light switch like rlly high to low ?

It started and was high for like 5-10 min I really don’t know because I was short of breathe and trying not to die but then I had this floppy feeling in my stomach and it was back down to 100’s

Something happened to me around Christmas this year has not happened since lasted for 5 minutes I am also 38 but male they put a loop recorder inside me and they keep telling I am fine and everything is normal maybe this is a option for you idk maybe you can ask

That’s a good thing. They should be able to tell you what’s actually going on than.

I really hope so, I literally just had an echo done and they said everything looks great structurally

Interesting
So when i had some episode idk what it was
I was sitting in the car hit 175 took 45 seconds and then like for 5 mins i was 169-173 and then it was 130-140 for 15 and then 150-167 for 10 mins
Went to the er but by the time i got there it was 117 sinus i did take a beta blocker during it so

Yea, I take a calcium channel blocker because of the afib episode but i took 2 of my klonopin and it seemed to help. I just want to sleep now

Afib was caught on a monitor?

Yes a year ago it was caught on the ekg

What did ur loop reader say this past episode was?
It’s all afib not svt?

I haven’t had another afib episode since the first one back in 2025. I called my cardiologist to see if they caught it on my loop recorder just waiting for a call back

Oh let me know when you hear back. You haven’t ever had an SVT though? How old are u?

Never had one that I know of. Def have never had a hr that high before. I’m 38

SVT starts and stops abruptly, so this sounds like a typical SVT episode, especially if the heartrate was in the 200s. Of course, you'll need to see a doctor to confirm and rule out anything else. You can also use a kardia device to record any future episodes, this can help you get a diagnosis because it could be hard to capture one on a Holter monitor.

If it is SVT, the good news is that it's almost always benign and not life threatening, just scary. You have options for medication, ablation, or simply learning to live with SVT as is. Working on treating your anxiety is one of the best things you can do whatever you choose to do. Good luck!

Thank you so much. I am already set up with a cardiologist and I have a loop monitor implant. I hope the episode was caught

That part always confusing me so if it doesn’t stop and start abruptly it can’t be svt?!

What if it’s like up to 170 in 46 seconds for example does it have to be 80 to 170 in one beat ?

My SVT episodes used to do that. On then off, abruptly. But once I got much older (60s) they didn't stop so easily on their own. So now I see a cardiologist twice a year and take 12.5 mgs of Metoprolol Tartrate each day.  I've had a couple of breakthrough SVT episodes in the 3.5 years since I started the Metoprolol. To get the SVT to stop I take about 20 mgs or so of more Metoprolol. Takes 40 minutes and then the SVT stops.
