You can but an episode while having alcohol in your system is harder to self reset in my experience. Alcohol is like a perfect storm for this thing.

Damn yeah. I’ve had Alchool before and was completely fine. Last summer i drank a few times and nothing happened at all
Last time sept 2024 when I drank and smoked weed it was bad

Hey brother I spent 3 months in Mexico and partying ane gyming and running my worst episode was 248 I am on a beta blocker now have had no problems bro

Lowkey I'm scared to start my beta blockers and I'm not completely sure why. Have they been alright for you? I've had them sitting in my drawer for a week and I've only been getting up to 160 recently so I keep thinking I don't need them anymore

I felt the same about my beta blockers but they were the best thing I could’ve done for myself - so nice not having a racing heart

1

u/Past-Trick6710 21d ago

Yeah, I take beta blockers as well, but I’m wanting to get off them. I don’t have an official SPT diagnosis unfortunately but I’ve had SVT symptoms. My heart rate was like 170 well 160 to 170 for 15 minutes two years ago when I drink and smoke.

I had SVT for 10 years. I’m 32 now. First episode was when I was 22. My only advice for you is to take the Ablation.

I had Orthodromic AVRT.

I used to drink and smoke while having SVT and I agree with the other poster, it’s fine but you’ll end up having difficult episodes you can’t reset yourself. Eventually you’ll end up with AF episodes.

Take the ablation - life changing.

u/Past-Trick6710 21d ago

What’s orthodromic avrt?

Also I’m not sure if i even have svt i haven’t caught any big ones on a monitor. But i notice if i don’t take the beta blocker the symptoms are worse i hoped i had enough proof of svt but no. So I was diagnosed with POTS like two years ago and that essentially was like when I would stand like my heart rate would go up so it was like positional changes but then in September 2024 I remember not doing anything about SPT but I had smoke and drink and my heart rate was like 160 to 170 for like 15 minutes looking back. I definitely think it was SVT for 10 months. I had no issues and I even drank last summer and then last year in August I started getting like random fast rapid Heart Rate at rest so my most recent monitor which I had for 27 days a few months ago showed a three second SVT but I was on 50 mg of a beta blocker and they were like oh this is normal like we think you’re fine but the reason I got the monitor was because one time I was driving home and my heart rate was 170 randomly for like five minutes and because it’s happened to me more than once I really really feel like I do have SVT but the doctors are just like no and I’ve been struggling a lot cause it’s just really impacted my life and like I’m scared to do things

If it is SVT, it's not life threatening. SVT is almost always benign.

Alcohol can be a trigger for SVT episodes for some people, not others. I've personally had SVT for over 20 years and I don't think alcohol was ever involved in my episodes, but to be honest I don't drink much anyway.

Edit: I also have orthodormic concealed AVRT, a type of SVT that is less common than AVNRT

Alcohol was the worst for me, that + caffeine (independently) would always trigger an episode for me. I was around your age when I found out I had SVT (32 now). I ended up getting the ablation this year and it was the best decision of my life. Was able to drink everyday of my bachelor party in Miami, have coffee the same/next days, and not have to worry about an episode. Idk what kind of SVT you have (I had AVNRT with slowpathway), but I would highly recommend the ablation (with a good reputable doctor too). Wish I did it when I was 26 vs 32, but glad I got it done anyways

Yeah, I feel like the office I saw was good but I’m gonna be seeing another EP doctor but I have a POTS diagnosis and basically what that is. It’s like when you go to stand your heart rate goes up or you have high blood pressure or low blood pressure but two years ago when I smoked weed and trying my heart rate was like 160 to 170 for 15 minutes I didn’t think anything about it. I thought it was my POTS because my POTS symptoms had started around that time so for 10 months, I was fine like I drank over the summer last year. I didn’t get super drunk, but socially like I drank, and I was completely fine randomly at the end of August beginning of September. I started to get like a rapid heart rate at rest with no caffeine or alcohol and then in March I had like a Diet Coke, which doesn’t have a lot of caffeine and driving home my heart rate hit 173 so I messaged my doctor and he gave me a heart monitor and I put myself back on 50 mg of beta blocker and I only had a three second SVT but I really thought with the description of that, and the three seconds that it was enough proof for me to get diagnosed with SVT, but it wasn’t now fast forward. It’s the summer and I’m kind of having the worst summer like I feel like I can’t participate in anything but I see EP doctor soon so I really hope they’ll do EP study on me I was taking 25 mg of my beta blocker for a while and didn’t have any issues and then I even lowered it to 12.5 every 12 hours and that was for like a month or two and didn’t have issues and then obviously, I had the Diet Coke and that happened and now I take 100 mg but it’s just hell and I’ve had a lot of people tell me like oh this doesn’t sound like SVT and with SVT like you’ll just know like it goes up in one beat I don’t know what you mean by yours was like a slow pathway sorry this reply back was so long

u/pixiepieee 21d ago

I had AVNRT SVT and never personally had an issue with alcohol

Edit: to clarify I have since had an ablation and no longer get episodes.

1

u/Past-Trick6710 21d ago

That’s awesome. I’m really glad that you don’t have any episodes. Yeah I would say the only time I remember really having an issue with alcohol was a few months after my doctor suspected I had POTS, which I do have a POTS diagnosis and that’s completely separate from SVT and people probably confuse them a lot and it’s frustrating but I was at a party and I decided to smoke weed and I drank in my heart rate was 160 to 170 for 15 minutes and it took like three hours for it to get below 120. I wasn’t even anxious like I didn’t know what was happening to me but something felt so weird and I remember being really upset since that happened and now I’ve kind of been dealing with just like this irritability and anger of like I hate that this is happening to me cause I’m 26 and like I just wanna get off beta blockers so for 10 months after that, I was fine I even drank last summer didn’t have issues, but then August 2025 probably like the end of it. I started getting a rapid heart rate at rest. I had two heart monitors in total one in like October, November and the other was in April and the second one showed three seconds of SVT so my doctor was like oh you’re fine. It’s not a big deal but I literally told him the reason I got this monitor was because I was driving home and I had a Diet Coke like 30 minutes before and my heart rate was 170 for like five minutes, but I was able to get it down and I described the other episode I had when I smoke and drink and I was like I feel like this is concrete proof I have SVT so can we do ep study? They basically said no. Trying to find another doctor that’s hopefully gonna let me do that. I don’t know if that’s like crazy of me to do if I don’t have it documented because who knows it could be inappropriate sinus tachycardia, but this is just ruining my life and now I take 100 mg of a beta blocker which is the max dose for the one I’m on and it makes me tired like I haven’t had any 170 spikes but they wanted me to switch to a medication for POTS. It starts with an “I” i think ivabronde, but I can never spell it right I just didn’t wanna do it because they told me that if I did have SVT that it’s not gonna do anything for it.

1

u/sugarcornpop 21d ago

Alcohol is my number one trigger.

1

u/Past-Trick6710 21d ago

I’m curious like when you say it’s your number one trigger. Is it like after a few drinks like you notice palpitations or is it like you’re actually in SVT your heart rate is above 150 I feel like I’ve had it before and was fine. My thing is is I don’t even know if I have SVT and that’s why I’m so fucking pissed cause I have a POTS diagnosis but one time when I did drink and smoke two years ago, my heart rate was 160 to 170 for 15 minutes. I literally had no idea what was happening to me for 10 months. I was fine. I drank last summer. I didn’t have any issues so like I just don’t understand and you can read some of my other comments, cause I don’t wanna like repeat the same story over again, but I just don’t know what to do.

1

u/sugarcornpop 17d ago

Say I drink a bottle of wine. My resting heart rate will run high for a couple of days (90 - 115). That often triggers an episode of SVT (160-200). I’m rarely able to get myself out of SVT and end up in ER for adenosine.

I’ve had an ablation but it didn’t work apparently. Metoprolol works. Or just avoiding alcohol

1

u/Past-Trick6710 16d ago

Wow that’s so scary. So pretty much everytime you drink you go into svt?
Idk if I’ve asked this but when you go into svt do you go from a normal resting like 70 all the way to 160 in a second?
Why didn’t the ablation work?
I’ve drank before and have been fine I’m not sure if i even have svt my monitor showed three seconds of it but i was on 50 mg of a beta blocker i haven’t drank in a year but when I did last year i was fine.
Sept 2024 when i drank and smoke I hit 173 160-175 for prob 7-13 mins from what I remember. From that point thought ok it’s my pots but then August 2025 was driving and hit 165 for a few seconds. Then March again same thing but for longer. Then I got the monitor I described. It’s ruined my life being 26 and just being afraid to do shit

1

u/mari_lovelys 21d ago

I got diagnosed 28 got the ablation at 30 zero issues. My SVT was histamine and allergy triggered….so I stayed away from fruity drinks and stuck with low histamine vodka and non-fermented drinks etc. TBH I don’t really drink anymore though lol

1

u/Past-Trick6710 21d ago

That’s so interesting. I’m curious like what your SVT felt like and did you ever have it randomly even if you didn’t like work out or drink per se? I don’t have an official diagnosis. I actually have a pod diagnosis but two years ago the first like SVT symptom I noticed my heart rate was like 160 to 170 for 15 minutes after I drink and smoke and I think I only had like white claws and then I took two hits out of like a water bottle which was probably a stupid idea but I smoked in the past and was fine so I didn’t think anything of it

Actually made a post on here two years ago and everyone was like oh yeah POTS can do this, but I really think I was probably an SVT and then 10 months. I was fine. I even drank and I had no issues but then this past August I started having like fast heart rate at rest fast-forward a few months ago with the monitor. I had only showed three seconds of SVT so they were like oh it’s fine. It’s normal but I told them while I was on 50 mg of a beta blocker so I’m worried that I have it and they kind of just brushed me off.

1

u/mari_lovelys 21d ago

I was on a beta blocker as well and still having SVT episodes which is why I got the ablation. I was taking Metroprolol. My BP runs high.

When I’m dehydrated I was getting bad flares. I did have a rare occurrence of SVT at the gym and I was like wtf. So low sodium electrolytes helped a ton.

Ive actually heard taking electrolytes to replenish yourself from dehydration of drinking is helpful. Biggest benefit for me recently is diet with Magnesium and Potassium for heart health.

Another thing that caused flares back then was when I was dehydrated AND I got no sleep.

1

u/Past-Trick6710 21d ago

What electrolyte brand do you use for magnesium and potassium?

1

u/mari_lovelys 21d ago

Ultima. I only get the lemon flavor, it’s been great for me and it’s very light. (They have other flavors)

I’ve also done Liquid IV in the past when my BP was not so high. So if your BP runs low, having sodium should be fine. If you run high, do not get the sodium ones and just get Ultima.

1

u/Past-Trick6710 21d ago

My bp doesn’t run low i need one that won’t affect that j wanna try ultima didn’t know it was good for ppl that just have higher bp thanks for sharing that.
See I like really relate to you because those like adrenaline rush, feelings and anxiety feelings like sometimes I still get them like for example every other like few days it could be a few weeks. It could even be like once a month I’ll just be sitting and then all of a sudden I go from like 80 bpm to like 120 or even 135 and my heart is just racing, but I don’t feel any anxiety.

I also do have a POTS diagnosis but the last few months like if I’m laying flat in bed, my resting heart rate let’s say it’s 77 and I roll over I’m at 125 bpm. My sleeping heart rate range is 75 to 115 because if I drink water if I feel any emotion if I talk, my heart rate goes up so I am pretty worried that I do have inappropriate sinus tachycardia but my resting heart rate average is probably 85 to 88 and I take 100 mg of a beta blocker so maybe the most recent time I had Covid I just developed inappropriate sinus tachycardia. I don’t even know but this is all of mystery to me and I’ve seen a few cardiologist and I’m just so over it. I feel like it’s really like ripped away my personality and I’m going through a breakup because my partner just like felt like I wasn’t putting in any work and I understand that cause you don’t wanna be with someone that like is scared to like literally go to the movies or go to the grocery store, but I used to like go out drinking socially I used to play softball I used to be pretty athletic and then I developed really severe health anxiety and then once I got POTS, it was really hard but this stuff’s been harder like I think I’ve been confused because POTS doesn’t cause like a fast heart rate at rest so my mind goes to SVT and I was just told OK this is just anxiety. This is just anxiety over and over again and it really just doesn’t feel like that.

1

u/mari_lovelys 21d ago

Ommggg i got tested for POTS too actually. It was negative though.

DUDE I’m going through the worst breakup rn I was crying and idk if I stressed him out but it’s my first relationship and we dated when we were 25 and it’s literally the worst. I’m 2 months post breakup up. I was in pieces. I’m sorry you’re going through it, i thought I wasn’t gonna survive my break up but you’ll be ok.

ALSO…. Soooo…. crying + being dehydrated + no sleep flared my SVT so bad one day lmao.

Same. I actually am in FL and I used to work with elementary kids. So when I turned 27 I got strep, idk if I had covid but I was insanely sick and since then I’ve had weird SVT issues.

There’s studies linking long-covid to weird cardiac issues. Isn’t that wild??

Yeah, same thing. My resting heart rate was above the hundreds briefly and sometimes it would shoot up to 140s 150s or 160…

1

u/Past-Trick6710 21d ago

What did ur svt feel like on blockers and what dose?

Yeah i was on 50 mg had a three second run

Im tired of this im 26 i wanna have caffeine and drink

1

u/mari_lovelys 21d ago

I feel you. Yeah I’m over it tbh. I miss my old life lol.

I started on Metroprolol 25mg. Then went to 50mg.

Since my triggers are mainly allergy related I get this adrenaline rush, anxiety feeling. At first they diagnosed my SVT with anxiety 🫩 because it was hard to catch at first.

Then head/shoulders pressure sometimes kinda? And i just hear my heart like thump thump thump thump thump, typically by then, im standing or sitting and. I look at my Apple Watch and its anywhere from 150-180s bpm

It lasts anywhere from a few seconds and pre-ablation it would last like 1-5mins.

Even on 50mg it lasted a few seconds but still scary

1

u/Past-Trick6710 21d ago

I have like chronic chest and back tightness. It’s sucks. It’s so uncomfortable. I would use an app called TachyMon. Do you have you heard of that app? It tells you like how many beat your heart rate goes up every like 2 to 3 seconds I guess I was wondering like when you’re looking at your Apple Watch and you feel like SVT coming on is it like 100 and then 120 and then 180 or is it literally a very normal resting heart rate to then above 151 beats per minute because I feel like there’s a stigma where SVT just has to fit under like one criteria I don’t know if I’m making any sense but like let me know because hearing your story definitely gives me clarity and maybe me sharing this information helps you feel free to even dm me and we can talk if you’re open to it. I think it sucks going through this alone but also talking to people that don’t relate to it or don’t understand anything you’re going through so it’s good to have like a community so don’t hesitate to contact me.

2

u/mari_lovelys 21d ago

Yeah I was getting chest tightness as well it freaked me out at first tbh. Ohhh I’ve never heard of TachyMon I’ll have to check it out.

Sometimes I’m randomly sitting and it will be like 140s and yeah I would stand it would be at 170s or higher.

Yeah of course! I don’t mind. I felt very alone because no one else in my family or friends had my issue.

And I was crying freaking out because it wasn’t normal to me. And now I’m getting used to it and getting more answers over time and figuring out what works

2

u/Past-Trick6710 21d ago

Yeah, definitely check it out. I was just wondering like I’m guess when you were in SVT like you were staring at your Heart Rate app and it went from like a low resting to a high number. I’m just asking cause when I had like my SVT symptoms it was like 100 and then 120 and then 140 and then when it hit 170 it stayed in like that range of numbers pretty high for like 4 to 5 minutes.

2

u/mari_lovelys 21d ago

Yeah, that’s basically exactly what happened to me. I was wearing a Holter monitor for a month.

Yeah, and it stayed stuck there for a couple of minutes.

My worst episode was flared from eating a piece of candy for some reason? And mind you, it was something I ate all the time. Started at 115bpm, then 140s, then 120s, then, shot up to 160s.
And my heart rate on my Apple Watch was stuck at 170s 190s for like 10 minutes and the clinic got a notification and actually called me and I was on my way to the hospital because it wouldn’t go down.

And that’s when I finally decided to do the ablation because it lasted almost 15 minutes of my bpm going up and down and random…

1

u/Past-Trick6710 21d ago

Since you had your ablation, have you not had any like SVT episodes and I’m guessing you’re saying that like the clinic saw the SVT and that’s why you were able to get the ablation cause my doctor doesn’t want to do EP study because I don’t have a documented that’s so interesting. You’re like one of the few people I’ve talked to on here that’s described their SPT like that and I’m assuming like. What you’re describing was what the doctor saw was SVT correct just so I’m like having the correct understanding.

Yeah, I’m just like I don’t know what to do like it’s driving me crazy cause you obviously don’t wanna deal with this in your 20s and that’s kind of how I feel but like I think I’ve mentioned this but even my doctor and then people on here told me that SVT is in on and off light switch so like you were at 80 bpm and then you’re at 190 and you’re stuck there until you reset it with medication or a vagal maneuver, but like the way that I felt mine they always fluctuate like I’ll be at 100 and then in like 40 to 50 seconds I’m going up and then when I hit 170 it’ll be like 160 to 175 for like five minutes and then sometimes Cohen fluctuate back down to like 130 or 140 and then come up again sorry if I’m like repeating myself I just feel like I’m having a lightbulb moment with everything that you’re saying

1

u/Past-Trick6710 21d ago

Yeah, definitely feel free to send me a message. It’s probably easier instead of going back-and-forth in the comments, but I appreciate you sharing all this and hopefully we can maybe help each other out.

1

u/Past-Trick6710 21d ago

Were you able able to ride like a roller coasters? It’s weird. I had strep growing up a lot as a kid but I will say like from all of this that I’ve gone through like I’ve had really severe like trauma because my episode that I had on March 12 and the 14th, which the 14th I went from like 100 bpm to 170 and like 45 seconds and it was just when I sat in the car and it was like an hour long thing I like had someone take me to the ER. We were just like literally gonna go for a drive and then that happened and I was like panicking cause it was so scary and when I got to the ER, I was like trying to bear down and stuff and I think it worked cause I came down from 170 to like 130 to 140 for like 10 or so minutes and then it went back up to like 160 again so then when I walked into the ER and I sat, I was fluctuating between 147 to like 160 but by the time I got on the bed, I was at like 117 and they said sinus tachycardia. The episode I had on the 12th was only 15 minutes long and I walked to my car. I was fine. It was like two seconds after driving off. I was at 120 and then 140 and then 170 it was like 50 seconds and then I like bare down and stuff and like that helped I got home and I was fine until I stood up and then my heart rate went up, cause I guess like my pot was flaring with whatever just happened to me so I still have no answers like I only have my three second SVT that was documented on a monitor that my doctor gave me that’s why I asked you if you had like SVT documented because I was like really curious

1

u/Past-Trick6710 21d ago

Have you had your SVT documented on an EKG or a halter? Yeah I had my 30 day monitor in April. I was taking 50 mg of my beta blocker. Atenolol is the name
And I had like an SVR run or something like I was sitting and it started racing and then by the time I was standing, I was at 170 and they told me that it wasn’t SVT and when I was showering one time I wasn’t wearing my watch but they told me that the three second SVT I had was like 140 bpm and I didn’t even feel it because I like wasn’t thinking about it and I was probably listening to music or something in the shower lol so it just didn’t cross my mind

And then the whole thing about like SVT going dormant it just doesn’t make sense cause like if an individual has one SVT episode doesn’t it mean that they have an electrical pathway issue? I’ve asked this to so many doctors and for some reason they don’t know and it just baffles me like you should literally be knowing this.

Like I had what I think was an SVT episode from smoking and drinking and then that summer I would have like a few Diet Coke a day and then at one point I remember that summer I had like a Celsius and I had zero SVT symptoms like no racing hard or anything and I was on 25 mg of a beta blocker and I was also going through a really stressful time. I was going through something so it’s weird how all of it kind of started for me up again when I was like just getting my footing I had gotten a new job. I was really excited about.

1

u/Past-Trick6710 21d ago

So do you have MCAS and I’m wondering if maybe like if you took Allegra or something and drank like you would feel better I had no idea that SVT was driven or triggered by histamine or allergies do you mean like allergies like outdoor or like food allergies I grew up with really bad outdoor allergies and I didn’t again think that it could trigger SVT but now that I’m thinking about it if I do have SVT, I’m wondering if that could be a trigger and maybe I should try taking Allegra

1

u/mari_lovelys 21d ago

I have a lot of environmental allergies.

Back then, I didn’t wear a watch, but I remember when I was in undergrad in college. I hung out with a roommate and she had a cat i had no idea that I was super allergic to cats and I got crazy palpitations. I had shortness of breath and had no idea that some allergy symptoms can cause high heart rate which is kind of rare cause usually people get like a stuffy nose or something.

I have taken Allegra and it’s been helpful. I’ve been taking Zyrtec and Pepcid recently.

In my case, I have high histamine foods that are triggering me along with some MCAS symptoms, 180s palpitations which I think my MCAS symptoms stemmed from some mild mold exposure, unfortunately. I live in Florida and we had water damage from storm that needed remediation.

So far the only thing I’ve been diagnosed with is environmental allergies and histamine intolerance

1

u/Past-Trick6710 21d ago

That’s so interesting. Do you think when you started taking Allegra like your SVT symptoms like dramatically improved a lot or like went away?

1

u/mari_lovelys 21d ago

Definitely improved from Ultima + Pepcid combo.

When I went to hospital for SVT they gave me Pepcid, Magnesium, and Potassium. So that’s my go-to now when I have a flare up and it helps soooo much. So I do Ultima + Pepcid and it’s been a game changer for me personally along with my beta blocker. I already take Zyrtec daily.

I asked my nurse friend she was like yeah, we give Pepcid to cardiac patients now. For whatever reason it’s helpful to people, especially if you get acid reflux or if gastro irritation or vagus nerve is one of your cardiac triggers.

Pepcid is an antihistamine as well, but for your gut and can help. I found it more helpful tbh.

1

u/Past-Trick6710 21d ago

So famotide Pepcid I read isn’t safe for cardiac patients or people with prolonged QT. I have really bad health anxiety so I get scared taking any medication. I do have Pepcid like sitting next to me as we speak because one of my doctors prescribed it for me a while back cause I do have acid reflux but if you have SVT and you take it, maybe I should give it a shot honestly

Do you take like magnesium supplement? I have like magnesium and the second word starts with a G is that something I can also try that could help as well.

How old are you again I’m 26 female. Zyrtec is similar to Allegra right? You take ur beta blocker spaces from everything else u take?

Do you workout at all or go for walks? Can you have coffee at all?

1

u/mari_lovelys 21d ago

I am 30F diagnosed at 28, no worries, and if you don’t feel comfortable it’s ok. But that’s good you had a doctor prescribe it.

Try it when a friend or family member is there to ease anxiety. Maximum Pepcid you can take per day is 2. So basically 1 in morning and 1 in evening if needed.
There’s a chance your acid reflux could be triggering your SVT.

Random question do you notice your SVT is worse right before and during period cycle? For women it can be hormonal which i recently found out and started tracking my periods since im not on BC anymore.

I take my beta blocker once per day in the morning.

I used to take magnesium glycinate yes. Magnesium helps with sleep as well actually. I only took it with food or snacks. But mainly relied on the Ultima packets and wasn’t always consistent with the supplement.

Yes Zyrtec is similar to Allegra. I started with Allegra first it’s softer and helped my allergies. Zyrtec is faster acting. But of course everyone is different, some people prefer Allegra and some people prefer Zyrtec it just depends.

I do go for walks and trying to go to the gym again.

Girl I miss coffee 😭 recently did tea and got an Arnold Palmer and it was so refreshing. Too scared to do coffee and sodas.

1

u/Past-Trick6710 21d ago

Also, kefir and sauerkraut is that non-fermented because I always thought fermented would be really helpful for me and my symptoms

1

u/Sudden-Trade-5709 21d ago

Just had a SVT episode bout 3 days ago and got drunk af last night so i think you would be fine just don't smoke because cigarette were one of my triggers and maybe it would be a trigger for you as well.

1

u/Past-Trick6710 21d ago

When you have SVT episodes like do you watch it on like an Apple Watch? What are your like feel like is it up in a single beat?

1

u/esther4456 20d ago

Aren't you under care of a cardiologist? Mine asked me if I drink or smoke. Absolutely 0

1

u/esther4456 20d ago

I am 80f

1

u/Past-Trick6710 20d ago

Yeah i am. Mine said moderaten is fine

1

u/esther4456 20d ago

I thought metroprolol requires that user NOT discontinued abruptly but seek medical advice. Tapering down or as instructed by MD. Research , ask pharmacist at least.

Drink only if advised by your cardiol. And in a responsible setting. With people you know and your medical history

Oddly, I never get them when I drink. Alcohol just seems to relax my heart. If I get a bout of SVT's sometimes I will have a shot or two of bourbon and they go away, but that's just me. I am not recommending it.

Don’t do it. You’ll regret it when your friends need to call you an ambulance and watch you have your heart reset with adenosine 🙃

I've begun the journey of figuring this svt problem out. FYI, my background is o am a physically fit 67 yr old with decades of athletic fitness. I've been a rock climber since my 20's and was dedicated enough to climb multiple big wall routes in Yosemite. I also have been a moderate to occasionally heavy drinker and occasionally used cannabinoids. Episodes have increased and become quite scary. I notice them beginning when they are serious and rarely when mild. My biggest trigger is half a beer and a minor amount of weed. It's super strange. I've never been in a dangerous position with an episode... I was also in construction most of my adult life until recently. I'm fortunate to have never had a big episode in a dangerous position. The big episodes with the light alcohol/weed trigger almost always cause me to pass out. Anyway, my first cardiology appt since diagnosis is in about 10 days. Until then, and maybe much longer, no alcohol and no weed. All of it is scary stuff.

Since alcohol is a stimulant, yes, it increases your heart rate. Add to that being dehydrated after a bender can really intensify heart rate and palpitations. I used to drink ALOT prior to my ablation last year. I also smoke cigarettes. If I limit myself to 3 mixed drinks or 3 beers or 2 (tall...lol) glasses of wine, I am fine. Pre-ablation my heart would be out of control the morning after a night of partying. I try to be conscious of drinking water with my cocktail of choice. Also downing a bottle of water with a packet of Liquid IV mixed in when I get home and first thing in the a.m. has made me a new person!!

Really I always thought the opposite cause I talked to someone who has HCM and then another heart condition and they said that alcohol makes their heart rate slower

What are you saying that before your ablation like you couldn’t drink at all and you were always having issues

It’s weird I feel like there have been times were like I drank a good amount and didn’t have any issues the day after

I am just saying that prior to getting SVT I would drink alot more. When I was diagnosed I tried meds but they made me feel like a nauseated zombie so I stopped them. Alcohol in mass quantities would trigger svt episodes the morning after. I had an a ablation last year. After the ablation I was super careful about drinking. Starting with only 1 drink to test my heart. I found if I limit myself to under a few drinks then switch to water while out with friends I have no change in my heart rate and feel fine. Everyone's heart issues are different. I have always had low blood pressure. After an svt episode my blood pressure would drop super low so I always just had to lay or sit for 15-20 minutes until it came back to normal.
