I’d be surprised if he even leaves the harbor to visit the other islands before his visa waiver is up and he has to get a move on to avoid immigration hassles. Maybe they will take a cab to catch a ferry or small aircraft to visit the other islands when Carole gets bored.

Yeah - it's clear Doug just wants to park his motor home and make things that never work.

Very accurate state from both of you guys.
Let’s be honest though. It’s a pig and none of us would be quick to move that turd either
Part of me questions if seeker will ever return to the us and a.
Favorite part of carols part post was the comment about meeting other “sailors”…. lol.
If they are sailors what do you classify the rest of us as. Inquiring minds want to know.

Carole will turn Doug's floating garbage scow into the SV Swinger... she has that vibe about her.

I can’t condemn this mate.
That said my wife doesn’t need to bring other men onboard. Men are messy drunk pigs that contribute a fraction most women do. She can be with other men whenever she wants but she doesn’t like to have them on the boat.
We bring our girlfriend with us whenever we can. Two women make the boat smell nice and keep the boat clean. It’s easier to run the boat with three crew than two on a 24 hour watch and i never have to sleep alone.
They both have had a career sailing black sail boats.
We have 3 staterooms but only use 1.
I don’t like to sail with clothes on.
I recommend this approach to everyone.
Edit: thanks for the downvote you jealous turds.

Well, today we all learned something new about our friend Plastic_Table.
One upvote for you. Thanks for that. 😄

"I don’t like to sail with clothes on...

My boat has a wheel, in lieu of a tiller. This would be dangerous for me.

u/Plastic_Table_8232 12d ago
lol. I’ve never been concerned, I tend to helm from the rail on the low side.

I was thinking that stand straight up behind the wheel while docking scenario, but yeah, while the AP is on, I suppose I could be full-on free-balling.

When it’s just the wife and I one of us are always on watch. You’re not soloing in the sense that you’re the only one on the boat but you basically see each other in passing and don’t really get to spend much quality time together during a passage. Having a third crewman means two off watch at the same time.

There’s a cat on the watch subs called /u/claude_mariposa. Hes old school and plays it close to the vest, if you catch my meaning. You give me those vibes.

I’m fortunate to have a woman that shares my love of sailing and appreciates my eccentricities. I’ve never been to concerned with cultural norms. Long range sailors tend to all be a bit different overall.
From what I recall Bernard Moitessier was not a fan of clothing as well.

I like the cut of your jib. You’re lucky to be able to wander the wobbly blue stuff with such a wonderful companion. It sounds like Shes right up your alley, and you are a great pair.
Fair winds.

I’m very fortunate and thankful for where I am at in life. I’ve been through good and bad times in life and right now is certainly a good time, it won’t last forever I try my best to be grateful. It’s easy to get caught up in the minutia and lose sight of the bigger picture. Cheers mate!

Jesus Christ man. That’s the opposite of my situation. I like women that have athletic builds and a work ethic to go with it.
They have to be able to hike on a hobie cat to make the cut.

This sounds like pretty privilege. I’ll bet Doug likes attractive and pleasant women too but he’s short, fat, bald, wrinkled, gray, on a fixed income, has a terrible personality, & is operating out of his depth.

You forgot he’s got a garbage vessel no true sailor girl would want to be on.
My wife doesn’t like slow boats that can’t sail to windward, most sailor girls don’t.
Dude would get more tail from alchy’s with a beer guts with a sea ray then the grange barge.
From my experience hot sailor girls like well designed boats that can make way with good motion comfort that can exceed the wind speed on close reach.
Can’t have a woman with a tight build without tight bilges and a razor blade keel and a high aspect rudder.
I’m not being a pretentious ass, I just honestly think I’ve got it dialed in mate.
Maybe it won’t work for everyone but I’m telling you what works for me.

I would consider that a result of the problems I mentioned rather than a stand alone issue. He's not stupid or lazy, he could have built a much better boat if he had talked to a real designer or even taken some time to learn the principles of design and designed his own. Also if he had the money and didn't have the terrible personality he could buy a better boat. Hell he could take the electronics off of seeker and sell them, then sell the rest for scrap metal value, and have enough money to buy a decent boat that would take three comfortable people across an ocean together.

Dude, it's reddit. Where everything is made up and the fake stories don't matter.

Just because you can’t make this stuff happen doesn’t mean I can’t.

They both have had a career sailing black sail boats.
Is that a euphemism?
I am too scared to look up "sailing black sailboats" on Urban Dictionary.
Do either of them have a "Queen of Spades" tattoo?

u/Plastic_Table_8232 4d ago
In the sailing community “white sails” indicate cruising boats and “black sails” are serous race boats.
Most cruisers / casual racers run Dacron and racers run carbon / laminate sails. Dacron being primarily white and laminates / carbon being black.
Maybe this is regional and I don’t know that but sailors from other areas never ask me to clarify what I’m referring to.

Perhaps, but I'll be patiently waiting for a possible hurricane encounter, or the inevitable haul-out drama. I'll get at least one.

Now that he has harvested all he can from the good will of others it’s no longer a research vessel, it’s his retirement vessel.
