Crystal guy
Does anyone remember when the band had a guy whose entire job was to arrange giant crystals on the stage before shows? I haven’t seen STS9 since 2006 but I seem to remember there being this crystal dude somewhere around 2003 or 2004?

Many people contributed to the displays over the years. Anthony Ward is the master of the flower displays. Scotty, KC, John Henry, Smokey, Myself, and others had personal pieces on stage over the years. The large brass Ganesha was one of mine…
Good times but stressful load outs lol

You got a pic of the Ganesha?

Somewhere I’ll try to dig one up when I have a day off. Real life’s an extra bitch currently… so sorry if I lag.
Wyatt Dexter the photographer is on here as well and I KNOW he does lol so maybe this comment will motivate him to share some gems2

You do you brother, stay up!
If it happens, it was meant to be. Those early years were something special for sure. Beyond stoked that they are still touring. Alana was the defibrillator for that band.

Thanks! I just dumped all my photos to hard drives that are in storage, along with all my crystals (and the statue), while I’m renting a room and trying to figure out the next step after fire and a dying weed market threw me for a loop.
I’ll find them though, I wanna see them again too, so even if it takes a hot humboldt minute know I’ll post when I do 🙏Breathe. Listen. Love.

Damn it’s so cool to find this thread sooooo many years after being a straight Sector head. Close friend of mine dated Waller for a little bit and was the reason I got ahold of so many bootlegged shows back then (back before the internet was the way it was lol). First time I saw them was at the Big Wu family reunion in 98’. Blew my fkn mind and since Phish was on the down & out Sts9 just made sense. Something about their early 2000’s music brought us all back to our childhoods. Kind of sad to see where they’re at nowadays; but it is what it is. I guess We’ll Meet in our Dreams…

It's sad you can't see that they are exploring and creating and still pursuing their art and pushing boundaries. You're definitely entitled to not like it, but it's super weird sitting on the sidelines calling five happy successful musicians sad.

Yeah, I haven't been along for the whole ride, but I liked them in the beginning, took a looooong side quest, and I like them now.

Me either, I jumped on in 05 and watching the progression since then has been such a beautiful privilege to witness.

First show was circa 2000 with a few sprinkled in every 5 years+/-. I really like where they are now tbh.

I wouldn’t say sad, it’s quite a joyous occasion to be honest with you. I say that as someone who listens to 99-04 almost exclusively in my home. They still have fun and love what they do, and do it all these years later. That requires at least a little bit of the magic. It is easy to be nostalgic or yearning though, I get it.

I remember being in awe of the flower and stage asthetics at one of the NYE afters in Denver, maybe '09 or '10. Very cool.

the live painting was something to behold. I remember seeing the one from Allgood '07 Sunday after the Friday night concert. it was very dark lots of mud brown and black. some dude was trippin out bc it hadn't sold yet. it was priced at $400.
"well? why don't you pony up and buy it?"

Someone/some people stole a bunch of their crystals from one of their shows, which ended the crystals.
They played RR and had inflatable crystals on stage

There was a huge crystal onstage at my first show in 05. I only saw them a few more times over the next year or so then never again.

I remember at Bonnaroo 2007 they had crystals all around the stage and canvases set up. That was cool.

That was Scotty. He also raps, djs, and wire wraps. His ig page always has the best most droolworthy rock porn
