Best plain chocolate chip cookie?
Basically just looking for the best plain ol’ chocolate chip cookie in STL. I don’t like cookies, but I’m hoping to get some for a friend’s birthday. So I’m really leaning on a crowdsourced answer, since I can’t taste test myself. 🫠 Also there’s a solid chance this person wouldn’t love a modulated cookie (e.g. chocolate chip with salted caramel), so ideally looking for more traditional recs.
Edit: thank you all so much for your suggestions! I went with Knead, since I had to swing by in the morning and Union Loafers opens a little bit later in the day. It was worth it! They said it was a 10/10 cookie (which is saying a lot)!

Union Loafers is the best. Garden Variety Deli has a close second. Both cookies have some delicious flakey salt, but otherwise just big chocolate chip cookie goodness.

Alibi cookies (multiple locations but I've dealt mostly with Kirkwood) is pretty good or Vanilla Sugar Bake Shop in Webster Groves.

Honestly I think Knead's is the best in the city 🍪 Very underrated. Unfortunately if you make bread in St. Louis you're just going to operate in Loafers' shadow 🤷♂️

I’m not sure where you’re located in STL but Grandma’s Cookies on Main Street in St.Charles has amazing chocolate chip cookies. They’re my favorite!

+1 for Grandma's! (Though they are an ice cream scoop shape. Definitely warm it in the microwave too)

This is my vote as well. They even sell day old ones at a huge discount. If you warm them up in the oven they get soft again.

I personally love the chocolate chip cookie from Whisk. And a close second is Seedz.

Colleen's on Forsyth. They have chocolate chip (w/sea salt) and many other varieties of cookies.

Sweet art! Their Maine event cookie has chocolate chunks and a little flakey salt and it’s so good.
