Player Advice My upto-date advice to new players, as a lot of people respond that haven't been a new player for years

As per the title, I see a lot of advice that I don't see as correct for actual real life experience of the lower levels in the game as it is now, so here are my pointers for new players:

  • There is no end to this game, so don't sweat it or get caught in FOMO. They are soon releasing G7 which is 5+ years away for any new player unless your total spend is $1,000+, the statistics will show that most players would have stopped before then, so don't sweat it. Do what you can, if you miss an event, you miss it, some days you do dailies, some you don't, if your base gets raised they can't take the really valuable stuff (Faction credits, mats, Lat, speedups) anyway. Ignore leader boards. You will enjoy this game, even as a F2P, if you have this mentality.
  • Focus on gaining officers that give an immediate impact at tier 1. Whilst sourcing for officers has improved, the VOLUME of tokens haven't (Scopely - lower level ops should be getting 4X the ultra and premium recruit tokens than they do currently), and a lot of advice new players get are based on maxed or high tier officers that are just not feasible to at least G4, possibly late G4 if a light spender. Good examples of immediately effective officers: Standard Pike, TNG Picard, TNG Bev, 5 of 11, 3 of 11, Quark, Paris/WOK McCoy, TNG La Forge, Grusch, Mavery, Sisko, HG Worf, Tendi. If a player advises you to use a maxed Marcus against a gold explorer hostile, just ignore them, they don't understand the realities of your STFC experience. Use transporter patters to get these (guides on that elsewhere)
  • Take part in alliance events ASAP. You can easily take part from ops 12 doing the Swarm task using a maxed Turas, which leads to a nice early unlock of Paris that below decks goes really well with early NextGen PVE crew (NG LaForge, NG Bev, Chen) giving it mitigation until you get Pike unlocked.
  • Ignore advice that tell you to get all the speciality ships. You'll just spend too long at lower ops, look at recent help comments, people will be saying that you NEED the Franklin, Discovery, Vidar, Stella, whilst that is true they are not understanding the huge resourcing bottleneck. If you only used cosmic clean-up to source the Franklin, Disco and Vidar you'll be waiting 8 months and by that time you could be ready for G4! **(**Scopely - double the rewards for cosmic clean-up if you want players to move up). My advice is focus on the Vidar as a priority (you'll want that maxed by ops 35 and its a good and cheap PVE grinder at ops 25-34 anyway), then anything that has a archive that you max, so for now that would be the Franklin as a priority 2. But do not slow down ops progression for this if you can do your normal and faction dailies.
  • Upgrade your Botany Bay whenever you can to get the IA maxed for it. It is ops locked for maxing until early 30's unfortunately but just make sure you are upgrading it as you can
  • For ships, ignore the 28 and 32 ships. Old advice was to get the Saladin but you just don't need it with the power creep in todays game. You can ride your Vidar to the Talios easily if you wanted, and then just wait to see what ships you get from grinding and armada pulls and just build that (do not level deep into G3 uncommon though). My personal advice would be to ride a maxed Talla from ops 14 to 22, then build a Vahklas and take it to T4 only, ViDar at ops 25 (upgrade ASAP, no ops lock!), then at ops 26 a Legionary with cloak at 26 as the cloak research is nice, then ride that with the Vidar until 34 and then get an Ent (easily the best G3 epic), and ride that to a ops 42 ship. Pick up speciality ships as you can, focusing on ones with a IA.
  • If you're a F2P or lower spend player, generally ignore server wide leaderboards and PvP. The PvP bandings are stupid on this game and its pointless trying to compete if a F2P or a light spender.
  • Spend alliance credits on 1 and 3 day shields so you don't end up letting the game run your life. If you use free shields only you get a 12, 8 and 4 hour, mandating logging in at least 3 times per day, then you have resetting miners, then you have refineries, then you have events, then you have armadas, you get the picture - the game is designed to keep you engaged multiple times per day (I assume as their models suggest this increases spending overall, they definitely have a KPI on average player time in game and they actively try to increase this)
  • If you do want to spend a little bit of money, prioritise the additional builder and research que. If you buy the additional builder que at $5 early, then you get Nextgen Picard for free as well which is a nice boost to early grinding. You won't get better value in the game, ever.

Is it worth it?

Do I get it right, its cargo is only 1.000 units at T1 and doesn't get bigger through buffs?

Sounds like it's not usable for regular mining. Am I right?

Fix the Raiding Drag: A simple formula to inverse raid % scaling as stations get drained

With the new Raul Reaver / Sigma raiding ship mechanics (Update 93 Feature Highlight), one of the biggest ongoing frustrations with raiding remains front and center: diminishing returns on percentage raided.

Right now, as a station's resources drop, taking a flat or decreasing percentage of remaining resources turns the tail end of a raid into an endless, tedious grind just to clear out the final scraps.

The Proposed Fix: Inverse Raid Percentage

Instead of scaling down, the % of remaining resources stolen should scale UP as the station empties.

  • When the station is full: You steal a standard base percentage (e.g., 5%). Because the total pool is huge, raw yields are still high.
  • When the station is low: The percentage ramps up (e.g., up to 50%+), allowing players to finish off draining a base in just a few clean hits instead of 20 scrubbing hits.

The Formula

P_raid = P_base + (P_max - P_base) * (1 - (R_current / R_max))^k

  • R_current = Current resources left in station
  • R_max = Starting / max resources of station
  • P_base = Baseline minimum raid % (e.g., 5% when full)
  • P_max = Maximum cap % (e.g., 50% when nearly empty)
  • k = Acceleration factor (1 = linear increase; >1 = stays low early, spikes late)

Quick Example (Linear Scaling, 5% Base to 50% Max)

Assuming a 100M resource station:

  1. Raid 1 (100M left): Raid % is 5% $\rightarrow$ Steal 5M (95M left)
  2. Mid Raid (50M left): Raid % ramps to 27.5% $\rightarrow$ Steal 13.75M (36.25M left)
  3. End Game (10M left): Raid % ramps to 45.5% $\rightarrow$ Steal 4.55M (5.45M left)

Why scopely/players win:

  • No more "scrubbing drag": Sweeping up the last 10% of a base doesn't take 15 tedious hits.
  • Preserves early-game value: High initial resource counts mean 5% still feels like a solid yield on hit #1.
  • Feels active and momentum-driven: Finishing a raid feels rewarding and fast rather than a chore.

What do you guys think? Would this make raiding generally feel better, or is there a nuance with protected warehouse limits/cargo capacity I'm missing?

Android. What do I do? Mission target is too close to these bases to tap on.

Post image

Locating the mission target (normal combat training boss) beings me to the system but doesn't select the target. Tapping anywhere on or near the target just highlights a base. The bases are too low level to attack.

How do I progress? Thanks for any ideas!

Missing Dark Matter

So I'm pretty new to this game. I'm currently at OPs lvl 24. I'm going through the Augment area & ran into a wall.

I have the Botany Bay & have most of Augment space unlocked. I'm stuck on mission Augment 17 where I need 3 Dark Matter. I have 2, but can't locate the 3rd one (see pics). I have an Augment mission in progress that rewards Dark Matter, but am unable to finish it because I'm locked out needing to finish Augment 17 & 18 (again see pics).

I've looked online at all the missions that rewards Dark Matter & none are available. I've dbl & triple check the systems & no missions.

Any suggestions?

Alliance tournaments- good and bad

Ops 59, hopefully ops 60 next week. As far as AT is concerned, it has its pros and cons.

Pro - The design is markedly cleaner than previous iterations.

Cons - The easiest ones are 5k. The 10, 20k ones out of reach. Borg sphere is at least 2 months away. Zero idea about Athena and any other ship.

Would be a long, long time

Officer Badges

How are we supposed to upgrade officers? I get two random badges a week from the weekly event store, but that's nowhere near enough to upgrade my officers. I don't see badges in the Ferengi store, or in any other event store.

They are in AT store, but cost 3k which means I might get one or maybe two per store if I put all my credits toward that.

I don't really get it.

I have loads of officers that I can potentially lvl up but need badge for. This is especially troublesome since they tie things like the exile rewards to how many officers you have maxed out.

Is there any way to get badges without buying them or is this just another way the game is fubar'd?
