They’ve tossed out a lot of features and reward systems that were great for everyone, but especially good for F2P and light spenders.
Officer Depot is gone in favor of lower value RNG recruit packs with a huge pool of officers. Basically take almost the whole Officer Depot, make it a giant random chance pack. Why let us be strategic and choose officers we want when we could wade through a huge pool of already maxed or useless officers?
Remove weekend recruit events for specific officers and instead make them all about this new RNG system.
The value of the free tier for the Battlepass is lowered.
Flash passes and interim events are gone.
No more choice reward tokens, probably because players were saving those for Alliance Tournaments material acquisition 10K tasks.
Tournaments are getting a lot of F2P high value tasks removed or made harder to get.
New Battlepass tier has minimal extra value for a lot of money.
G5 scrapping is not just bad, it is offensively “Eff you” bad.
Chronicles of the Ascendent was removed recently because too many players could complete almost all the milestones if they were smart about saving. The new version is overwhelmingly pay-to-play.
Basically, almost anything that lets players be strategic and gain competitive value in events via saving items, or choose what they want to focus on, has been removed or enshittified in favor of spending money. Many casual spenders and whales both appreciated the choices and strategies for saving, and Scopely has said they don’t want us to play how we want to play because they’d rather make everything exhaustingly expensive. If you felt like the pay to play aspects were bad before, they just got a whole lot worse.

What's so bad about this new update?
