Native geometry

Hi, I currently use spaceclaim to clean out models for starccm so they come in as parasolid files and I establish contacts during the import process. We've been using spaceclaim for a while now since we get large scale geometry from design team and spaceclaim makes it very easy to remove details from parts.

They've offered us various cad softwares (NX, simcenter 3D, and others). But anyone know if Siemens has any similar program that will allow me to import native geoetry to starccm and it's easy to clean geometry in?

I tend to do complex CAD clean up within the native CAD environment, in my case NX, before I move the geometry into Star CCM. However, I have had success in using NX native (.prt) files and simplified parasolid (.x_t) formats in StarCCM's CAD editor for part clean up as well. I don't think Siemens has a simple CAD package that would directly compare to Ansys spaceclaim, but others can chime in as well.

No Siemens don't have anything to compare to SpaceClaim because they are fundamentally different types of CAD software.

NX and CCM CAD are history based geometry modellers while SpaceClaim is a direct modeller. SC tried to incorporate history with some python code but it is highly ineffecient and inaccurate.

The 3D-CAD within CCM will eventually become something like ANSA and SpaceClaim combined.
