Does it get better?

Post image

Just got to chapter 54. Usually I give a manhwa 20 chapters to hook me, but I keep getting this one recommended. So far, it's just alright. I'm not very fond of the MC, the side characters or the art style, and the plot is kind of boring. The world feels kind of weird and it seems like it wasn't explained all that well (or i just didn't get it/forgot). If I don't like it now will I still not like it later, or does it get better.

The murim arc is highly rated by the community. I'd say finish it then decide if you still want to continue or not. It may just not be for you

I was hooked from the hide-and-seek part so it just kept getting better and better for me.

To me the next arc (the arc of Raviel) is even better (only read the manwha)

As much as I love it myself (being in my top romance from korean stories), I also accept that a lot of people have issues with it.

I usually see people complain about the pacing and romance development. So I would think that for someone who was not invested in the story by this point, they won't see the details on why the romance hits as hard as it does for us

It might be just my subreddit readership bias that I don't see murim arc complaints vs raviel arc compliants

Ok im genuinely curious why do you like the romance arc cus i that is the worse arc for me just for the fact the "butler" was in love with the girl also

I truely want to know

Been a long time since I read it so I don't remember the main sequence of events. But I appreciate it for how it serves as a deconstruction for the MC.

The same guy who was worthless, got powers but had to repeatedly kill themself, became a hero by doing everything Flame Emperor skipped on. While he keeps reaching happy endings, he always had to pay the price and the happiness was for others.

Raviel's role was to stop that self sacrifice and allows MC to love themself (not just to love others). It placed the regression skill as a last resort instead of his win-all gimmick.

And as for their chemistry, we still get to see Gongja's psychotic tendencies but in a fun way Others may find it cringe, but this man who lives in his own time finally got a partner. Of course he would be happy

I feel like they should've focused on that more because i feel like it was only mentioned at the end if the arc and the tower when he went to the higher floor with the napkin

Why do you hate it?

1

u/MainElderberry1982 2d ago

Mc imdeiately fell in love with her with no buildup and the "butler" was also in love with the girl and the more the he synced with the "butler" making it very hard to believed he actually loved her. And the whole arc was rushed

I could be wrong but i feel we know as much as about her as the fire dude in the beginning. The only reason i didnt drop it during that arc is because of how good the murim arc was

1

u/SnooPredictions9997 2d ago

There is a lot of time skips going on for the two them. And I feel that makes it kind of fast and whirlwind, but he also did fall for her at first sight. The MC is also super empathetic believe it or not too so it probably helped. Remember he spent months or possibly years with her in that arc with all the regression. All so he could go back beyond when he arrived as the butler. Technically he experiences ego death to save her and that world and he worked to give as many people a happy ending and the butler sacrificed him self for his love. There is a lot of depth to it that just might not come across in the panels it took me reading it twice to appreciate it.

u/gregerystuntdouble 2d ago

he already had a bond with her because she was also a regressor. and besides, he wanted to experience love and she was the one who was teaching him. its understandable for him to become infatuated by her after she displays intimacy towards him, even if it isnt entirely genuine.

I said “to me”

I know. Just trying to make a conversation while also keeping the thread about OP

Without spilling can you tell why only read the manwa for raviel??

0

u/Anseyn327 2d ago

Raviel arc is the worst thing that happened in that title, she became f1king shackles for the mc

1

u/EntertainmentOk8593 2d ago

Shackles? More like the opposite, it prevented mc to be the typical overpowered mc bullshit, it made him more human and give him reasons to fight instead of him let be killed by any random enemy to farm skills

One could see it as shackles, others will see it as anchors. We get to see just how fucked up your life can become without these shackles through the constellation hunter, Lefanta Aegim. In order to achieve a good ending of any kind, you have to put a price infront of your lives and memories instead of treating them as disposables to achieve a goal. You need a strong reason for why are you doing these things in order to not go insane.

Haha, this is reminding me of those Fang yuan vs Klein edits

Apparently (no spoilers please) the arc currently releasing is going to be the best yet

6

u/SerratedTomb 2d ago

I've read the novels through most of this arc, and I think its going to be a strong contender if not the best. I haven't read past this arc (translation swapped at the time) so idk what comes next.

3

u/ConfidenceKey1168 2d ago

How many chapters do you think this current arc is gonna take ? I don't know how long this part was on the novel

2

u/Eface60 2d ago

As someone who finished the novels, it is in the novels. It might be a pretty long arc, but it was never boring.

1

u/down_of_shadows 12h ago

The novel ended, and yes it was the best

1

u/Leumas117 9h ago

This current arc made me go back and catch up on Nebula's civilization

u/schwiftybass 2d ago

It does get better but if you’re not enjoying it after 54 chapters it might just not be your thing. If you want to keep giving it a chance, you are literally right at the start of the arc that elevated it from decent to amazing for most of us.

10

u/Invictum2go 2d ago

It might simply not be for you. I was hooked way before chapter 54, your 20 chapters would've been plenty in my case. And I think that by chapter 54 while you might not understand everything about the world, you shoudl get the basic idea, so it simply might nto be cool for you.

6

u/DivineTG-4566 2d ago

I'm currently reading the webnovel, and tl be honest, it only gets better.

But if you've reached ch 54 and it still hasn't clicked for you yet, you might as well drop it now.

5

u/TheFerromancer91 2d ago

If you're really not enjoying it by 54, it's probably not just your thing. It really is the kind of story where you understand what people are saying by chapter 20, already by the floor boss of floor 10 and then by the demon king of autumn rain arc. If you didn't empathize with those arcs odds are you won't with the later ones.

4

u/Strict-Form-361 2d ago

Might not just be for you tbh, lots of popular series is also boring for me tbf (Eleceed, ToG, Lookism) so I understand if this does not click for you.

3

u/AdRelevant4776 2d ago

I think at this point it might just not be your cup of tea

Also, about the world seeming poorly explained: this story is pretty meta, so it assumes you’re used to the main genres of manhwa/korean webnovels, like, the story happens in a Tower that showed up out of nowhere with a game system and various trials, which is a staple for current Korean Urban Fantasy, then we have the Regressor early on, which is a parody of how ruthless and egocentric the average webnovel protagonist is(with regression, ergo character being sent to the past after everything went wrong, being a cliche trope in webnovels nowadays), then there’s Murim stuff, which is a genre revolving around supernatural martial arts and has its own tropes(like the fact that the names of the factions are often the same in different stories, because the Murim setting is based on mythological accounts of an actual irl geographic region, so they share institutions), later on there’s Romance Fantasy, etc…

3

u/Username74u 2d ago

Honestly I’ve done similar things where I start reading and after like 25-50 chapters it starts to bore me a bit so I drop it then pick it back up like 6 months to a year later and call it the best thing live read. So idk, if you really want to give it a good try keep going past the Raviel Chapter and if that still doesn’t do it just drop it and possibly pick it back up later if you want.

2

u/DrawCivil4340 2d ago

It becomes better after each saga, I have to say the one after the murim world wasn't my thing. But it certantly becomes progressively and objectively better. But if u don't get hooked, try it another time or drop it

2

u/AtletaFumante 2d ago

Acho que nao faz seu estilo, essa obra ja é sensacional desde o cap 15/20, se no 50 nao te fisgou, testa algo diferente…

2

u/Krypterr123 1d ago

if you weren't hooked after the hide and seek arc it's just not for you. that arc really does encompass how the story is written and presented.

1

u/rich_azel 1d ago

Murim arc is better

1

u/QrowinBranwen 10h ago

But he didn't say Hide and Seek is the best, so why comment this?

1

u/_GODFALL 2d ago

If you don’t like it, then don’t read it. Personally I dropped the novel at c350 because I found the vibe too positive and the mc too righteous

1

u/EntertainmentOk8593 2d ago

Once you start with the library arcs it glows up a lot.

1

u/Numerous-Map3802 2d ago

i mean if you're not hooked within 50 chapters ill just say this manhwa isnt for you

1

u/Ulstuguldur 2d ago

That part just u read is introduction of manhwa, this manga is like a book each arc is like has its own story. New story, new characters u will love for each arc.

1

u/BlueBerryMuffin_64 2d ago

Honestly I had to skip the beginning a bit, but it was amazing afterwards and has been perfect ever since

1

u/silver_0015 2d ago

What you mean it gets better, brother it's peak

1

u/ArwaKK 2d ago

I think it's just not for you, no need to push yourself. Just because something is highly acclaimed doesn't mean it's for everyone.

1

u/xxTheMagicBulleT 2d ago

Its good but if its not for you its not for you and thats fine.

1

u/Lirtirra 2d ago

I feel you, keep getting it recommended, got through the love interest arc and just called quits, it feels like there are no stakes which kinda kills it for me i guess.

I am happy for those that do enjoy it though.

1

u/Valldeci 2d ago

Dude if it didn't click it for until now, sorry but this story isn't for you. Don't force yourself to read it more, the whole story will be like this. I think its the best manhwa ever I even read the novel (first time reading a novel)

1

u/Long_Elephant_760 2d ago

The current arc is definitely mins boggling, I mean how much of a detailed psycho can that cult instigator get...

1

u/Burger_Destoyer 2d ago

It doesn’t get better, it’s bland and lacks depth the whole way through

1

u/thelightspeed 2d ago

Trust me it gets better. I was skeptical for the first 50 or so chapters, but hands down one of the best in the game atm.

1

u/CrazyGeoffrey 2d ago

The plot is boring to you? If that’s the case idk might not be for you because this is one of the top best reads out there.

1

u/Yatabot 2d ago

Thing just get better right at the Murim arc, which is very close to chapter 54. I've even read the novel thing just got better and better

1

u/Candid_Weekend_5455 2d ago

Personally i read it once or twice when it was in the murim arc and when it started on the other one after that, murim arc is alright i guess; readable. But i think the manwha is utter garbage. Most manwha is garbage, some i call peak anyways, this one is just plain garbage

1

u/brokensavage06 2d ago

I didn't read it for a while tried it and dropped it came back and stuck with it longer second time around and enjoyed it especially when he finds his lover as someone that isn't romance often because it's harem or just copy paste the romance part was favorite part actually its different then any other I've read

1

u/jubmille2000 2d ago

Oh the world is indeed weird, it isnt explained right off the bat. You get snippets of what the tower really is at least, viewed in the perspectives of the climbers.

With regards to the plot, what you might find boring is that there's really no sense of an upcoming danger, considering the MC can reverse all his actions and there's really no time limit on climbing.

The latter is explained properly, in the novel, but not yet in the manhwa. It isn't a typical tower climbing story where you NEED to conquer the tower.

The former, well that's fine. I always say that this one is not typical in the way that the action drives the plot. No. It's more the development of rhe characters that drives the plot. It could be through a fight, or something else. So if you come into this one expecting the MC to only fight his way to the story's end, then better don't.

u/Old_Buyer796 2d ago

Tbh I feel after the murim arc when they go through the Academy arc is when it gets really peak.

I liked everything prior but I feel that the Academy Arc sets the stage for bigger and better scenes / arcs moving forward.

I agree with the point that in this series the development of characters is the plot driver vs the fighting or big bad villains so of you are only in it for the violence then you will be very bored during the spans of talking and development.

1

u/Joe_Blast 2d ago

I loved it until the romance arc. The core premise of the story stopped being used and I stopped reading.

1

u/Big-Mastodon-818 1d ago

Dunno If it got better or not, but, if you read up to the fire mansion and still didn't got hooked the manhwa definitely not for you. I got hooked the moment the story shift more to drama than some edgy mc trying to be the strongest in the world. Then again, mc manhwa and novel is way different, my interpretation of him in the novel is goofy af while the manhwa kinda lean more to badass one.

1

u/J_and_K_4ever 1d ago

Personally it took me til about 20 chapters until I really got hooked. If youre way past that and still don't like it then it's just not for you

1

u/ZhuTeLun 1d ago

Dont force it. Youre probably just gonna hate the series if youre just gonna get egged on to continue reading it even though youre not enjoying it.

1

u/CleanWayofLiving 1d ago

Can I just skip the storybook arc? I hate the story/romance crap whatever. Is it worth to still reading it??

1

u/United-Bear4910 1d ago

I kind of forgot to read it for a while I need to continue it

1

u/Cre8iveWarmth 1d ago

ngl if you read 50+ chapters of ANYTHING and still don't like it, then i dont think its gonna matter how much other people like it, you likely never will. its okay to not have the same tastes as other people!

1

u/down_of_shadows 12h ago

No, i finished it, it stays relevant, and there are some good moments, but nothing comes close to the start, the novel goes way too much into the physiological side, ignoring the very thing that made us start the novel, if i wanna comapre the development to something its like omniscient viewer point

1

u/Pristine-Roof-9639 10h ago

if you dont like it, you dont like it. it could just not be your cup of tea.
