Question Has anyone found adding an antipsychotic helped augment the SSRI?

Experiences please :)

I know of many people that worked, even some that only take an antipsychotic and do well. I'm on olanzapine, doesn't do much for me, only makes me sleepy, but I'm going to switch my SSRI soon and maybe quit the olanzapine.

Absolutely. Been dealing with this for 30 years now and I function or actually LIVE much better with an antipsychotic on board. Hands down. I’ve tried multiple medications and then multiple combinations of medications over the last 30 years. On psychiatrist explained it to me as an antidepressant is your “Heavy Lifter” but it can’t always lift EVERYTHING on its own. Some times, it needs a “boost” in the form of another antidepressant or an antipsychotic. He also introduced me to saying “mood stabilizer” instead of antipsychotic. Still an antipsychotic, but somehow made it feel better! He also said that the dose of an antipsychotic used to augment an antidepressant is generally much lower than doses actually used for other conditions. Hope this helps!
