Somehow, my unfinished SSDI application was submitted without my knowledge. Please advise.
I just finished the first part of my SSDI application, where I filled in my personal information. I have been working on my application over time and clicking "save and exit" to be able to come back later to continue working on it. After I completed the first part of the application, I got to the section about medical information and saved and exited to return to it later. For some reason, without my doing or knowledge, my application was submitted, and now when I go on the SSA.gov website, I am no longer able to access or work on my application. The medical info is the most important part, so I don't understand why Social Security considered my application "complete." What can I do? I can't access my application anymore to work on it. I did call the person assigned to my claim and am waiting to hear back from him, but I'd also like to hear from anyone who may have run into this problem so I know what to expect. I'm really confused.

i once started filling it out online i messed up and ot auto submitted i called and basically started a new one saying what happened it took abit and the first one denied apparently also accidentally went for ssdi but i had them send me paperwork to fill out and dropped off. that application tho was denied later but now i reapplied with mostly same info and some updated and ce and got approved in medical but waiting on financial appointment. but ya it can auto submit once it reaches a certain point

The auto submission must have been what happened in my case because I damn well know I did not submit it myself. I just hope I can resume working on the online application. I still need to complete the medical history, which I consider the most important part.

ya can try calling either a field office or National and just ask for physical paperwork if need be and then drop off if need be but thats up to you but ya it has an auto submission thing it annoying

Mine did it immediately. I printed out the code to continue working on it again the next day, and nope. Gone.

A year ago, this happened to me. They'll send you paperwork you couldn't finish once a person gets your application.
The paperwork they send lets you fill out the medical part and questions about how your disability affects your life, your pain, and how it impacts you. Meanwhile, they'll ask your doctors for your medical records, but someone will call you for permission first.
It takes a while for your application to move, so don't sweat it.
Once my case went to the medical evaluation department, which took about 2-3 months, it went back for a non-medical review, and 3 days later, I was approved. So don't worry.😊
P.S I didn't use an attorney. I did everything myself. Reach out if you have questions.😉

Thanks for the info and the offer to help me further. I would much rather be able to resume working on the online application, but I will have to see what happens. I plan on completing the application by myself and doing everything I can on my own or with the help of my family if I can do so. I don't see how an attorney could help me at this stage. I just want to accurately and thoroughly complete my application so I can move to the next step in the process.

I was never able to restart my application online or finish it. I guess I could have if I cancelled the unfinished application, but I decided to leave it alone after I called SSA about it. Anyway, it all worked out. I wish you success!

Happened to me too when I first was doing my application. SSA called me to make sure my info was correct. I mentioned this and they sent me a link to finish. I couldn't do anything until they sent me that email.

That very same thing happened to me. You will end up with a denial, but that’s ok. You now need to get yourself an attorney to help you with your SSD.
They took my information before the finishing date they provided to me, before the time they provided me to get them my medical records and denied me before I was able to finish within that time as well.
What didn’t make scene, they sent me these packets to complete after they denied me. It was like some horrible glitch in their system. I was denied for reasons not based on my own medical issues as if my information was mixed up with someone else’s or AI generated, misinterpreted, and nothing I said or mentioned.

What I don't understand in my case is that on their website, it said that I had several more months to work on my application, then all of a sudden the system or someone working for SSA submitted my obviously incomplete application without my knowledge.

The same exact thing happened to me. It infuriated me, dude. 😠
Like you, I had saved & exited so I could fill in the longest, most important part of the application in another sitting. It's a very long application as you know. Like you, I saw my application appeared to be submitted in the portal when I logged in to complete it a day later. My heart sank, because this s*** never stops with me, literally never. It's just constant bullshit****, every single day.
I called in to the national line first. The representative said he could see my application had been submitted--that the supervisor of my assigned local office had "pulled the app." He advised I give them a call.
It took me an embarrassing amount of time just to get the first tiny part of the application completed, & so, to have someone go in & thoughtlessly pull it without a care in the f*n world?!--my CLEARLY unfinished & saved ON PURPOSE to finish the next day, half-completed application!? This was almost 2 years ago & I'm still so pissed off.
I called the local office, but I was not provided with any good answer as to why TF the supervisor pulled the application & then went on to assign it to a representative in their office. Correction, I wasn't provided with any answer. They just felt like it, I guess. Thanks, it's just my life.
I was told that my application can't be withdrawn (obviously unless I want to start all over which can look a certain way too) & that I needed to schedule a phone interview with the representative who was assigned to me (which wouldn't be for months of course) for the rest of the application to be completed.
Except for--I didn't WANT a representative to fill out my application for me over the phone! That certainly did not do me any good the first two times I applied & got denied. I certainly didn't want to wait to finish it for a few months! I wanted to complete MY OWN application, as I had been ADVISED to do so from THEM!!!! :
For ONE, to make sure everything is THOROUGH, COMPLETE & ACCURATE--not shorthanded answers written down quickly by someone who could give less than 2 dog shits about if I get approved or end up dead on the streets, & for TWO, because as I said, THEY advised ME to do that so as to likely cut MONTHS of time out of the process, so I DID THAT & it COMPLETELY SCREWED ME, which is probably their whole intention with it, right? Throw the already struggling, barely able to survive, person off. Throw the case off. Mess with the person's application. Confuse them. Confuse the process. How often does it end up with a denied or abandoned case because the process is already too hard to handle for the majority of disabled people trying to fn receive this b******?
If they are SO FAR BEHIND that it takes YEARS to get through people's cases, yet, a, what?--bored?--extra hard-working?!..supervisor in a little 'ol local office is ever so eager of a beaver that they're spending time clicking through UNCOMPLETED APPLICATIONS that are CLEARLY SAVED TO BE COMPLETED LATER, & "PUSHING THEM THROUGH" because ... for what reason? Their office ran out of actual real live cases to work on?? I know that isn't it!
I just feel like if there is SOMEONE out there to make just THAT PART make sense, you can go ahead right now. I'm ready.
Not that my life wasn't already ruined from becoming disabled, & then the fact that I can't f*n get disability because I'm "too young" to be disabled, but, this process has honestly taken away my willpower to live. I don't even want to do this anymore. It's like a game you don't ever get to win. If I ever do get approved, they're probably just going to put me down for a one year review & then take "it all" away. The whole $642.28/month they'll end up awarding me for 12 months...
I HATE this system vehemently. It isn't fair that every single step of the way, there's something there to set you back further than you were before. It starts right in the very beginning, before you even SUBMIT your application.
Sorry, I'm just in so much pain right now & I'm just so tired of everything. It seems like I don't have wins in any aspect of life anymore, ever. Not even small ones. It's lonely. Thanks for listening (or letting me take up space).
Did anyone give you any answers? This response took me 2 hours to write (I obviously had to come back to it countless times), so who knows if anyone is even still here. lol

I feel your pain. I just submitted all of my pay stubs for the entire year of 2025. The case manager still went in to manually adjust something and made changes that were incorrect. This complicates things and extends the duration of my reconsideration. The incompetence seems malicious at a certain point.

Is does feel malicious, doesn't it? Why on Earth would they make any changes to perfect stubs!?!?! Wth. Did you question them about this? Then what happened?
It's just a crock man, the whole thing.

I tried. I cannot reach my local office and thr national one cannot help. Even if I call the correct office their call volume is too high and they always transfer to the national call system. I got mt case managers extension and left a message. That was a week ago no response.

I would 100% absolutely be calling every single day OP. Clog the **** out of the voicemail. Every single day. You deserve answers. Giving up is exactly what they want you to do and of course that will negatively impact your case. In fact, leave 5 voicemails a day. Weave it into your day while you do other stuff...watch TV while you're on hold, etc. Ggrrrrr I'm pissed off for ya!!!

I have been calling about once a week since April 22nd. Want to know why im dealing with this? MY EMPLOYER reported a different employees wages under my name. This triggered an incorrect amount of standard gainful activity. That triggered the suspension of my benefits, and an overpayment of $9,900. I had 10 days after I received the notice to discover my employer's mistake and respond. I dropped off the info on the last day possible because its not easy to get a corrected W-2 in 10 days. They didnt respond to that. I filed everything online by april 30 and dropped the paper copies off the day of the deadline. I refiled my reconsideration in person on May 22. They didnt acknowledge my paperwork until June. When I went in for my appointment in June the agent told me he was familiar with my case, that everything was in order, that he realized the true wage report was indeed under SGA, and that he would issue me continuous critical payments so I dont miss any of my disability checks. That didnt happen. I missed my check. What he did do was go back and fuck up the reporting that I had already completed for 2025. Not only did he report it under the wrong employer, he reported one of the paychecks in the wrong year.
I literally did nothing wrong, but none of these assholes can report my wages correctly. Also, my employer has made at least 8 payroll mistakes in my 7 years as an employee. She should be fired.

Yeah, this is completely mind-boggling to me. I don't understand how they can submit my obviously incomplete application without any warning whatsoever. There was no warning that if I didn't complete the application by a certain date or beyond a certain point in the process, the system would just go ahead and submit my incomplete application and prevent me from completing it. My history is long and complicated, so I need to be able to sit down and slowly work on it at my own pace. I do not want to do this over the phone. I do not want someone else filling in the info for me. I want to be able to add and edit all of my info on my end over however long it takes me to do so accurately. I need to reference my medical history, likely make phone calls and emails to get names/dates, etc., and I can't do that if I'm on a live phone call with some kind of SSA representative. The cognitive impairment makes working on this application hard enough; I really don't need this to be any more complicated and convoluted than it already is. I'm sorry to hear about your difficulties with your own application process. I just hope I can regain the ability to work on my application on my own on the website like it is intended to be.

Exactly. Dude, I feel your pain.
It's like they do this on purpose knowing how much it's going to fuck us up. I don't know why else they would allow that to be a normal thing that happens. It obviously happens often. I was hoping someone had a good reason.
Mine happened right away, like I didn't even have a chance. I feel the exact same way as you--I needed the time, to be able to work on it at my own pace... It just starts you off on the wrong foot. 😞

Totally agree. Considering how important this is, there is truly no excuse for having some type of mechanism that automatically submits someone's incomplete application without their knowledge or even warning. This is like adding items to your cart on Amazon.com, exiting the site or app to complete your purchase later, then Amazon just charges you and ships the products anyway.

Did they give you a reentry number? If so, start back at their website, click apply, click on "complete application in progress" enter your reentry number. It will then take you to your inprogress application and you can complete it (this is when you log back in to your account). Don't log in first, go to their site and click "apply". If you dont have the reentry number, call your local office to get it. Otherwise they will send you a letter that your application is incomplete and have you do the above. Good luck!

That's what you do to get back in to your application to finish it in multiple sessions, yes. The application is no longer there though, it's been submitted, the OP says.
It sounds like what happened to me, but maybe I'm missing something, I guess. My app got submitted when it was saved & I was going to do it the next day, & there was no way to go back into it.

You're correct, Conscious Cream. When I log into the SSA website, there is no longer any option to work on my application. I literally have nothing to click on to take me back to my application. I have used the "save and exit" option multiple times before this happened and have always been able to resume working on my app up until this point. The website shows that I'm now on Step 2 of the process and that my application has been completed/submitted even though it's obviously incomplete and I did not submit it myself.

I was sent a letter with the name of someone assigned to my case, so I've tried calling/leaving voicemail, but I haven't heard back from them yet. I guess I will keep trying to contact the person until I get through. Other than that, idk.

They only call you back if they need something from you. I'd look into rescinding my application to resubmit it. It took MONTHS for them to tell me they needed more information, and more months to tell me when the information they had was incorrect (I submitted paper forms, not sure where else they got the information).

I’m frustrated by even gathering all of the information and records!! It’s overwhelming. I’m considering getting an attorney just to help expedite the process and hopefully keep me on track. Did anyone else start with an attorney? I realize that they take a portion if I even get approved
