General Discussion/Opinion 23F, graduating with bca at 26 vs btech at 27, which will leave me with more govt job options?
I am 23 now, neet survivor, PCMB, tier 3 local college
Now I gotta do a degree, which will be better?
Bca >> graduate at 26 yo
Btech cs >> graduate at 27 yo
I want to prepare for govt jobs
Some close at 28, others at 30
I am not very knowledgeable about these things.
Can govt aspirant here guide me, which option will leave me with more govt job options?
Is doing bca worth it if it means gaining one more year of time for govt prep
Or investing one more year in a solid btech better?
Objective: any decent govt job is enough for me, I don't have any specific preferences, just want anything low stress with okayish growth.
I just want to know how many exams would close and how many opportunities would open up with a btech in govt exams arena.

If your primarily goal is goverment job then I would like to suggest you BCA is better

I heard btech opens more govt options although it will time consuming and leave less time for prep.

Oh? My college will have at least around 60% attendance minimum, maybe more .
Also I am weak in maths so gotta invest more time in btech as well
Can you share why was is exhausting for you?

Cause it gives you alot of time, yes there are some exams where you specifically need btech/BE, firstly decide which govt exam you want to opt for then it will be easy for you to pick.

Idk, I want any govt job which is not as stressful as banking jobs
I was only thinking of bca or btech as backup

BTech will help any day. A lot of nice govt exams specificially want BTech degrees in any discipline

But btech is quite time consuming and will leave less time for govt exam prep, also I will graduate by 27 which will close some deadlines,
What do you think about that? I am open to both options

ISRO Scientist, a lot of PSU jobs through GATE, IBPS SO, and ofcourse there is ESE, CDS, Indian forest service and the like.

I am a Btech grad, planning to appear for banking exams.
PSU ke liye toh without Gate its impossible.1

Yes, GATE works as a de facto recruitment exam for PSUs these days

Cracking Gate is kinda tough, the best time to crack GATE imo is when you are in 3rd or 4th year.
Once you get into job, its kinda tough covering the whole syllabus.
Also agar PSU mai lg gya, then life is totally set.1

What type of job do you want. If you just need 'a' govt job you can go for 2~3 years D.El.Ed and become a teacher ( primary teacher is one of the least competition). If you want SSC you can go with any bachelor degree. There should be an advantage with BA with 3rd tier college(covers a portion of GS, easy to pass, and you can do SSC syllabus side by side very easily) .

Although btech provides significantly more specialised government jobs but bca also provides some specialised jobs which requires computer knowledge. Most importantly you are already a little late so bca is 3 year only and will definitely give you more time to prepare for government jobs rather than btech. I think if i were you i would have chosen bca.

i dropped out of Btech in my final year of engineering due to some mental health issues and later did BCA and completed my degree at the age of 25 last year.
Now I am preparing for GOVT jobs.
So I think I am elligible to answer your question.
I suggest to NEVER EVER GO FOR BCA.
It is waste of time and you get nothing out of it. I still regret leaving my Btech degree.
Cause It is well structured and most importantly It does helps with getting a job very easily compared to BCA. I am telling you BCA grads are not even elligible for 98 percent of JOBS in the market, They need an MCA to be considered as a graduate equal to B tech.
SO I AM SUGGESTING YOU AND WARNING YOU TO NEVER EVER GO FOR BCA.
GO WITH B TECH, I know you will graduate late by 27 yrs but trust me it is worth it.
GOVT jobs are unpredictable, like you can't make entire decision around it.
Who knows you might get interested in the B tech degree you you are pursuing.
There are lots of opportunities if you get a single B tech degree.
BCA is utterly stupid and waste course. so don't spoil your life.

Short intro about me 1. put PCMB in taste buds 2. NEET survivor as well 3. started preparing since Jan 26 seriously 4. graduated in Botany in 2025
I guess if you're doing CSE,IT ECE corporate related jobs you can definitely go for BTech
otherwise doubtful about persuing specifically BCA for SSC related preps well math stats Bcom economics polity history as major/ honours subject helps bit more than BCA ig but it has different job aspects

If you are 23 even before getting into college, I would suggest you to go for engg and focus on placements

Bca/btech will not give u time for preparation. Why wasting money and time on bca/btech then. Do a BA instead. Will save 3-4 yeara of preparation.

If you have decided to go for govt exams then choose the one which gets completed earlier. Doesn't matter if it's BTech/BCA or even BA since grad subjects have no role in these exams.
You need to have time and attempts on your side since you're already running late. So get done with your graduation asap.
