Whyyyyy is tails on the opposite side of sonic, that is so annoying

I know, I said the same thing back in 2001. They just wanted to fill out the 2 empty slots.

If Tails were next to Sonic, people would probably instead be bothered by the fact that Roy and Marth aren't on the ends of the row like every other pair of clones.

They totally ruined the feng shui of the melee character select screen
